Gymnastics #24 - The Road to Paris

I have been rewatching some old meets on youtube recently. I am so glad they got rid of Al Trautwig.

The most cringeworthy moment, and I am not sure if Al was the color commentator, might have been John Tesh, was when they did the reality style reveal backstage at the 2000 trials. When they were discussing Vanessa Atler they were talking about whether or not Bela could whip her into shape if he had a few weeks with her between selection and the games. Ugh.

I feel like this Trials will be hard to watch bc in Tokyo 2021 other than Simone the field was a little thin. This time, you KNOW an excellent gymnast will be left off the team and it will be hard to watch.

If there is a thread for Olympic commercials we hate, I will move this there. In the meantime... that Munjaro commercial featuring Simone and mom Nellie is hammering on my will to live. Was there some arrangement with the USOC that forced Simone to make that commercial? It could not have been the money. I'm hoping she has enough to turn down future such travesties.
Letting her mom make some dough?

Laurie/ Madi did Trulicity commercials. Both drugs are for diabetes and made by Lilly so they have found a formula they like.

skye blakely may have gotten injured in podium training

Jade did an amanar though. I don't remember her floor enough to know if she did upgrade floor but I think she did?? Here was her reported passes:

Moors; double layout; double double; tripped on the front tuck step out last pass and laughs it off.

Also apparently Wong attempted a Cheng on vault??

From GymCastic - it does not sound at all good for Skye. :(

If Skye is out, that really makes things interesting after Simone & Shilese. Suni was considered a near-lock along with Skye and this will all but guarantee her spot since we'll definitely need her beam score.

But the question becomes - does the selection committee go with two pretty solid AAers - Kayla & Jordan or do they take one other solid AAer and Jade to fill the vault/floor specialist role comparable to Suni's spot as beam/bars specialist? Jade throwing an Amanar makes it almost impossible to leave her out, especially without Skye's vault scores.

My feeling is there was no way (barring injury) Jade was not going to be on the team after nationals and there’s no way she’s going to not be on the team after this

Apparently Wong's Cheng was piked down and a little rough. Scott Bregman said her left hand wasn't touching the vault.

Awful that the injury this close to the Olympics. No time to recover. Heartbreaking for her.

Bummed for Skye. 5 years of very hard work and an injury does her in again.

But tonight is all about the men. Please, Fred, do well and don’t get hurt!
