PB finals : No R1 NAGORNYY Nikita RUS R2 VERNIAIEV Oleg UKR R3 DALALOYAN Artur RUS No MIKULAK, Samuel and No ZOU Jingyuan who scored 16.383 in Team final. Boo.

But VERNIAIEV in 2nd!

 this happened last year too. Vernaiev's lowest scoring events from prelims are still to come, so I'm not expecting it to hold. But he has been having a good meet so far and has scored higher on every event than prelims, so I guess you never know. At least it's nice to see him having a good day today. He has had so many injuries since Rio that his body is hanging on by a thread.

13.0 with a fall? He's in the 13s without a fall. How much does a fall cost these days?

The deduction is 1.0, plus sometimes you lose the value of the element or lose difficulty because you miss connections, which it looked like Sam did in this case, as his D score is 0.5 lower than team finals. His E score is somehow only 0.466 lower, but they do seem to be scoring really high on pommels today.

ETA - Oleg added 0.7 difficulty on HB from prelims, so with a hit floor he may make me eat my words about him behind out of it.

Nikita is having a fantastic event. I don't want to jinx him. Of the Russians, I'm partial to Artur but I've always enjoyed Nikita as well.

I'd like to see Nikita win, especially over Xiao Ruoteng, whose style of gymnastics I don't enjoy. Hoping we don't see a repeat of Belyavskiy in 2017 though.

Ruoteng went for broke and came off the HB. That will probably cost him a medal.

Oleg!! Xiao Ruoteng's fall off the high bar may have opened the door for him.

Also, I'm extremely scared that I have been saying and thinking the same things about Oleg as Tim Daggett all day.

Yes!! :cheer2: for Oleg. {{{Xiao Ruoteng}}} Hate to see falls in such a great final.

ETA: Looks like Russians will go 1-2

Oleg added 1.6 to his D score over prelims across the six events. Incredible!

I like Xiao a lot. So sad for him. But totally fangirling over Artur. He's such a beautiful gymnast.

Thrilled for Oleg.

Much as I would have liked to see a Sam Mikulak hit and medal, I love this podium. What a great comeback for Oleg and I'm happy with Russia 1-2. They have the most stylish gymnastics in MAG.

Even with a clean PH Sam would have been hard pushed to make it onto the podium.

I like Sam but he would need upgrades in a couple of places. I love this podium.
Sam tied for 1st on HB, play it again Sam!

Kara Eaker is officially on the BB start list.

I am SO happy for Verniaiev, I don't know if this is still the case but it seemed like the training conditions were really a struggle for the Ukrainian gymnasts back during the Rio era and it's hard to imagine they are too much better now?

Agreed. I think he also should have gone for the extra difficulty on PB and HB to push for the podium (which he has upgrades that he chose not to do).

They might have improved a bit because I know that Ukraine got some of the equipment from Rio. But I still can't imagine they are great. Oleg has also had I don't know how many shoulder surgeries.

I know there was some criticism of Ukraine keeping Oleg off most events in the team final, but this seems to have justified the decision.

if you follow junior gymnastics Ukraine is in good hands, they have upcoming great talents might even challenge for Team in the future too.

So happy to see Nikita Nagornyy come through and take his first world AA. Olympics next year should be epic in MAG with Nikita, Artur, Vernaiev back on the up and the Chinese and Japanese.

I literally knew as soon as he approached pommel that Mikulak was going to fall. How many years now has he been bombing the AA?

Very very impressed with the Filipino gymnast. Beautiful technique and form; a tiny gem for sure! And bravo Joe Fraser. 8th in your first World AA is pretty good going :respec:

I thought it was an outstanding Men’s AA, so many great and exciting performances.

I’m delighted for the Russians, they are two very stylish and elegant gymnasts and really seem to push each other on. Over the moon for Oleg and Ukraine, he really stepped it up from qualifying. The decision to rest him for team final was the right one.

Ruoteng went for gold and paid the price, I liked his gymnastics. Mikulak has a real problem delivering when the pressure is on. For me he gets to pumped up and loses some focus? Even when he fell of the Pommels he was talking to his coach immediatey. Still he’s kinda hot, so can’t be to mad at him.

I was also impressed by the competitors from The Philippines and Brazil. I was impressed with the support among the competitors, always supporting each other and fist pumping. it’s Completely the opposite of the ladies.

MAG’s puts WAG’s to shame for quality and entertainment. In the Ladies, it’s Biles by miles and the rest battling for the scraps but I was glad for Melnikov.

Nagornyy has been super consistent, any of his total from Qualification (87.333), Team final (88.431) or AA Finals (88.772) would have been enough for the gold. He has been the male gymnast of the year if great performance at Europeans. If given a good draw he could qualify for all 6 events.

Another thing to remember is how Russians have upgraded from Golotsukov (Floor and Vault specialist) to Abalyazin (Floor, Vault and RIngs specialist). Abalyazin's place became a bit tricky when Nagornyy came around with strong Floor, Vault, Rings and PB. Russian coaches have done a good job of developing the PH and HB for Nagornyy.

I wanted Artur to defend his title but I’m thrilled that Nikita was able to pull out a win! He’s too good to not have a world AA title and he was so consistent throughout the competition! Oleg getting bronze was a nice surprise.

Mikulak seems like a nice guy but I can’t be bothered rooting for him anymore, it’s been the same story over and over for nearly a decade for him. The U.S. men’s team as a whole will need a lot of upgrades and consistency if they want to contend with the top 3 but good on them for putting the weak qualifications behind them.

I’ve struggled to be interested in the WAG events this week but I’m happy to see Melnikova on the podium! I hope Aliya has a strong return next year and can add a few more medals to her collection.
