It seems that 2022 Cup of China became TBA,

With their zero tolerance of covid I vote for moving a GP event out of China at least for now.

It would be nice if the Russia spot became a European GP that was shared with 4 feds (maybe Finland, Italy, Spain, Estonia, Germany or (selfishly for me the UK) etc) so that they each got a hosting turn during a quad - it could be a nice way for feds to keep costs down but still get recognition and hosting experience for when they want to apply for bigger events.

I do think it should stay in Europe, but I doubt it would be Germany, since Nebelhorn is already such a high profile, important event.
It would be nice to see some different federations get it. Also, since the JGP events can take place in such a wide variety of locations, even once in South Africa, why can't the senior GP have some variety.

If the proposal passes to make the Olympic Qualifier a stand-alone event that may be hosted by any federation whose bid has been accepted by the ISU, then the Nebelhorn Trophy will no longer have such a high profile.

Well, yes and no. It will still retain its permanent Challenger Series status and be viewed as an excellent pre-GP competition, along with Lombardia and Finlandia.

The GP host countries have to pay the expenses for travel, meals and lodging - relevant excerpt from the 2021 Skate America competition announcement:

4. MEALS, LODGING and TRAVEL EXPENSES
4.1 Meals and Lodging
The organizer will provide and cover the expenses for rooms and meals for all Competitors and Judges participating, beginning with dinner from Wednesday, October 20, 2021 until breakfast on Monday, October 25, 2021.

The organizer will provide and cover the expenses for rooms and meals also for the ISU Representative, the Referees, the Technical Controllers, the Technical Specialists, the ISU Grand Prix Coordinator for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, the Data and Replay Operators during the same period as indicated for the competitors.

4.2 Travel Expenses
The Organizing Member will pay air travel expenses based on the best available economy airfare rate for all competitors invited to its ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating event, for all Judges invited, from their domicile to Las Vegas, NV and return. If the competitors or judges decide to arrive earlier or stay later than the approved dates listed above any cost difference will be the responsibility of the competitor and/or judge or their respective federation. If competitors or judges desire to upgrade using miles or fly on a desired airline, the Organizing Committee will review with the understanding that the competitor and/or judge is responsible for the difference in price from the best available economy airfare available. The air travel expenses of the Referees, Technical Controllers, Technical Specialists and the Data & Replay Operators are covered by the ISU.

Sure, they could be added later, but they're not going to get assignments right out of the gate, so they're going to be hoping for a spots to open up and to get then then, or for unassigned host spots (not likely except maybe in Pairs) to be given to them closer to the actual events. They're pretty screwed as long as Russia is at war still for the next month.

Applications to replace Rostelecom Cup for 2023 GP season have a deadline on February 24th

French renounced to host GP Final. Deadline for applications is the same of Rostelcom's replacement.

It was Orelans but French Federation just communicated to ISU they aren't able to host it. So new host is needed.

Wonder who will step up. North American GPFs happen rarely, maybe the USFS will throw in a bid. Fingers crossed it isn't Japan again.

Not the first time they renounce a GPF they were given, BTW. Wasn't it supposed to be in Strasbourg a few years ago and then it went to Torino in the end? Or am I misremembering things.

That can be fixed though - for a first ever GP event it wasn’t terrible (Finland for instance was woeful considering they hold a streamer challenger there every year).

I wouldn't be surprised if Italy bids for the Rostelecom GP. I'm thrilled that the ISU has already made the decision to take it away from Russia.

I would imagine that Milan will hold GPF in maybe 2024 because I don’t see what other event will be useable as the Olympic test event so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a non Europe GPF

This far out, they could get it in the main Sheffield Arena, not the small rink, where there is much more space to do a full camera set up. No one was complaining about the cameras at Euros in 2012.

Or if BIS is interested but Sheffield doesn't want to host considering they are starting to focus on Euros, Glasgow or Liverpool could do a great job.

I have nothing against a British grand prix, I just remembered it had poor camera work. Don't remember how it was in 2012, so maybe it would be okay.

I do think Italy could use a GP spot in preparation for their Olympics, though, so I imagine they'll lunge at this. China still needs to show it won't cancel their GP either, so we could end up with both.

I’m fully behind a Glasgow bid - more so for a potential worlds (that Christopher Dean has mentioned bidding for before 2030…). I can see them going more for Nottingham if Sheffield not an option.

I think BIS will bid if it's financially feasible. They seem keen to host more events and GP Sheffield was generally very well received (including from me - my concerns about the venue were unfounded, despite the bad food and the earwigs in the ladies). I'm definitly if favour of Glasgow or Notts though.

But potentially an administrative challenge to run two events back-to-back, if GP Not Russia is still #6, since the British Championships are provisionally the week between the last GP and the GPF.

That is correct. Next season the order is USA, CAN, FRA, CHN, RUS, JPN.
