She has sponsors, but the money isn't nearly enough to cover the cost of training and living. She doesn't have a wealthy or even average family like most skaters. Parents can't help out with basic expenses: rental apartment + utilities, car for her mother, gas, food, etc. And then, there is training, choreo, costumes, physio, travel, nutritionist and private health insurance. She has more costs than an average skater while having less funding than most skaters on team Canada. She's in a worse situation now that she's no longer a world medalist and doesn't get the same amount of $$$ from the apparel sponsor.
