From Russia with love [#28]: Autumn to Winter 2017

I don't know if we will ever see sufficient proof to substantiate what TSL insinuated about Stolbova, but (if true) it would certainly explain a lot about them taking 2015 Worlds off. They were experiencing burn out that would also happen to Tuktamysheva the next season.

Meldonium was banned from January 2016, so why would there be any connection to them skipping 2015 Worlds and Liza's performance? And how do you know when Liza started and stopped taking it, or which other skaters took it? She was just one of the only ones who said outright that she had. Katia was banned for it, then reinstated, so why does everyone keep talking about Liza like she did something wrong, when she took it while legal? Elena is struggling now, does that mean she must have been doping too? And all the other skaters who are not Russian, but have had crappy seasons after a peak? Denis Ten, Patrick Chan, etc....? These conspiracy theories are so lame and TSL is a joke, but not a funny one...

S/K, like Denis, have struggled with loads of injuries throughout their careers. So did Yuko and Sasha but they never got accused of faking it or doping, etc. Why is it always S/K that gets tarred with this brush?

That TSL report is one hot mess of conspiracy theories, accusing everyone in sight... never mind Russia as it is an old issue now... TSL is hinting that "someone said that Nasser is the guy to go to for "medications(drugs?)"... and that "maybe?" it can be linked to US Gymnasts???!!!... And that "he heard something from Rafik that suggests a possible drug use in skating"...... and a whole bunch of "accusation"... and then he says "i am not claiming it is so...... but is it not interesting to possibility...". Then he is hinting, almost gloating at the possibility of dissolution of USGA (gyminastics association), and linking it to Rumynian coaching methods...

If he has such clever mind, he should go under cover, and find real facts if any... otherwise he is running his mouth and rising a law suite.

Can you elaborate please ?

This guy @ TSL video reports, claims that S/K did not skate in 2014/15 because they were afraid of various "doping consequences/issues"... Which is a complete lie, given that after the Olympics 2014, S/K took time off only during worlds in march (which is common to many athletes who medal at the Olympics), and then skated in 2014/15 GP series, GPF and medaled (RUS @1st, FRA @ 1st, GPF @2nd) and 2015/16 also with 1st and 2nd medals at all GP events. Their worst year after Olys was 2016/17 after Klimov was injured.... and it has nothing to do with doping (2 years after Olys).

Uh.
Do they have proofs??? Are they saying they have none and are spreading this shit???

Not a real academy yet, they will be giving a series of master classes in deferent cities, the first one will be in March in Tver
On one hand i am glad to hear they are pro-active, on the other hand if the girls have serious plans it would have been better if they made few PR moves, related directly and indirectly, to skating and their public personas. Both girls currently are not "at the top of the news" or have any "highlights in skating"; might be better to take few "image building/rebuilding steps" and then announce the new project. But wishing them luck in any case.

Striking while the iron is hot, it seems to me. They couldn't have chosen a better time if they wanted to. Lipnitskaya was a hero at Sochi, through her efforts and others they were able to convincingly win team gold. Ilinykh received both team gold and an individual bronze medal, which I doubt strongly B/S will be able to do in Pyeongchang. They have done several programs between them that people still find memorable. So I say give it a shot. It's never the things we did that we often regret when older, but rather the things we didn't do. :)

https://www.instagram.com/p/BeuhumTFcpt/?taken-by=angelsofplushenko - Valeria Mikhaylovna.. She was in CSKA under Inna Goncharenko. Is the rumour true???
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was true. She saw what progress Serafima did in a short time while being there. There is about 8 talented young lades that are newly eligible to seniors next season. Even though I think the federation won’t let them all move to seniors in the next season, they are all better than Mikhailova. Even Sakhanovich had better score on her GP than Mikhailova, which means that Mikhailova would very likely not get any decent assignments. Getting the GP event this season was just a luck and she didn’t particularly shine. It wasn’t a disaster but it was nothing special. So unless she takes a drastic action, she will be forgotten.

ETA: or maybe the rumour is true and Goncharenko moved to Pluschenko, so some of her students would want to follow her.

I wish the girls well, especially my darling Elena Ilynih; both girls are accomplished skaters. if their plans to give master classes, i am sure they will get students, at least for few events. but if they plan to make it a permanent business (given they are calling it an "Academy of Champions") then they need a) better planning of the whole set up, b) more good publicity and a bit of "uplift" to their CURRENT athletic reputation, and c) certain licenses and permits which i don't think they have yet.

I looked at what they are offering, and some of it is not logical, like the schedule issue. The age groups they want to train are SCHOOL CHILDREN agest 6-8 and 9-11, and the programme runs from March 1st to 25th, with daily events. This time frame is "school year".... who would take their kid out of school, to small town of Tver, in a middle of a school year??? Those few parents who have "elite level skaters" ages 6 to 11, already have big-name coaches, and don't need this training... The parents with "wanna-be-elite skaters" kids will not risk taking kids out of school for 3 weeks to travel to Tver (and how many such parents is there even in Tver??).

There is more to "fix", but they did not ask me to... :D

Lots of competitions are in school days, for example the Russian cups usually run for about a week. And yet it doesn’t discourage the parents to allow their children to attend - they take them out of school. If you think about who attends the Russian cups, some of the skaters are great and already have known and accomplished coaches, but others are not so great (placing 20th at their event), they don’t have known coaches, and yet the parents take those children out of school to attend those competitions. Those skaters will probably attend the camp, and the parents will think it was worth missing the school (even if they had to pretend that the kid is unwell to get medical certificate). Russia has a huge amount of skaters so I don’t think they should have problems with finding parents and skaters who want to attend.

If I remember well Julia said about herself she is an introverted personality, she doesn't like the people in general. How Julia wants to work as a coach?

They still need more organization and publicity, and! experience as trainers with some Big Name coaches prior to branching off on their own IF they want to make it big business. These girls want things "too quickly" it seems. Advertising on twitter and WhatsApp with 4 paragraphs of information and 2 fotos of themselves is not a right start.

Maybe. If Trankov and Larionov managed to have their own school, I can’t see why Ilynikh and Lipnitskaya couldn’t manage to have a number of skating camps and hopefully after that they may decide to continue full time.
