From Russia with love [#23]: Spring/Summer 2016

Nope. The problem is her partner at the moment, and moreso her coaching situation. They don't get COP.
I like Smirnov :rolleyes:
They somehow remind me I/K in their junior years - both pairs have "it" factor for me, but girls in both cases are stronger (at least during I/K junior career Elena was the strongest one).
But I totally agree with you about Zhuk as a coach, she can't work with girls :wall:

By the way, interview with both Evgenia and Anna after WC

What were you saying about fashion and style? :swoon:

I wonder what Russian posters think about Evgenia & Ksenia's looks? I love Evgenia's Auwdrey Hepburn-inspired outfit. Would shorten Ksenia's dress to slightly above the knee to make it age-appropriate, but otherwise love it. I get it -she's exposing one asset at the time. My Russian co-worker thought they looked boring and dowdy but loved Anna's look. I thought Anna looked beautiful but too sexy for a teenager. Maybe i am just getting old....

Hate Evgenia's ridiculous outfit from her grandma's wardrobe.

Don't like Ksenia's dress that much. It's ok for a 40-year-old lawyer at a work banquet, but not for a girl in her 20's with a body like hers!

Love love love Anna's outfit! Very stylish and sexy!

There is nothing "ridiculous" about Evgenia's outfit...was Audrey Hepburn, one of the best dressed women of all time, ridiculous? And are you seriously still going on about this 4 days after the fact? :rolleyes: My god, there were plenty of people wearing much worse outfits but you seem obsessed with this underage girl's looks and taste in clothing. What did you wear at 16? Fresh off the runway looks every single day? And it's curious to me how Smirnov can get away with wearing clothes that look picked right out of a rubbish bin, and everyone thinks he's cool because he doesn't care and wears what he wants...and who's to say these girls aren't doing exactly the same thing?

Audrey Hepburn was wearing those clothes in the 1950's..... and I was answering a specific question about those three girls (Evgenia, Ksenia and Anna). Had I been asked to comment on Smirnov's appearance I would have said that it's quite remarkable how someone as beautiful as him manages to look THIS fricking terrible all the time! It's like his wife is a jealous nut and purposely dresses him and does his hair in a way that no sane girl would ever speak to him.... like ever....

I am Russian and I really like Anna's outfit, I like Ksenia's too (probably would make the dress shorter).
I don't like Evgenia's but it suits her personality and it seems that she adores clothes in that style :)
About others: I kind of like Tarasova's and Radionova's dresses, don't like Victoria's though - it seems to be too long and her hairstyle doesn't suit this dress
:)
Oh, and I miss seeing Ilinykh at banquets, she has a good taste, IMO (except this season dresses :scream:)

No. I'm her fan. I'm their fan. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg program is fantastic.

I like her too. Some people seem to be concerned with her height, because she's short, but I don't see a problem with that, I mean, if you look at the ice dance podium at Worlds this year two of those ladies are only around 5'2" so I don't think her being small is in and of itself an issue. She moves beautifully and has a bit of Ilinykh sparkle and star power to her IMO.

I saw her live. She is very pretty, really "petite", and she moves beautifully.

Film about Zueva and SinKats dedicated to her birthday
http://kaban.tv/archive/match-tv/2016-04-08/1171830

Haven't seen it yet but it seems to be that Marina talked a lot about her wish to "make a Russian pair for Russia" :rolleyes:
She also talked about Katya Gordeeva and situation with Shpilband
Will translate it later, if no one does it :)

Oy. I'm surprised they agreed to have their 'working moments' fight filmed. Victoria does not read. I guess they are dating? Zueva's daily schedule is impressive (on the ice 9 hours a day without a break starting at 6 am; sometimes longer). She is apparently upset about the break up with Shpilband, but it was in no way her idea...

Watched it, will translate later - very interesting about Gordeeva/Grinkov
But the part about SinKats is too sweet, give me bad boy Nikita back.
It's too much sugar for me :drama:

I haven't seen the photo of the Audrey look. BUT I think Evgenia has an adorable personality. She came across as adorable on the podium and interacting with others. I like though that she does take on the character of the music. But can be a kid afterwards. A good role model for young kids entering the sport.

Film about Zueva and SinKats dedicated to her birthday
http://kaban.tv/archive/match-tv/2016-04-08/1171830

I watched it and here is a very brief summary...
  • Zueva is a discipline-fanatic;
  • She gets up at 4am every day and goes to bed at 8pm - there are no exceptions;
  • In the morning her first students were usually the Shibs because they needed to train before school;
  • Zueva never ever misses training - a fact which even someone as hard-working as Tessa Virtue commented on;
  • She does everything according to a schedule and takes no breaks;
  • She just eats some fruit and drinks her "secret recipe" tea (with honey, lemon and pepper) all day;
  • She pushes her students to the limit and expects endless repetitions of the most difficult program segments even when they can no longer feel their legs because she wants them to be able to do them regardless of how they feel and she cannot be argued with;
  • Zueva got very patriotic and teary-eyed when she talked about how much she would love to create an ice dance team for Russia - one that all of Russia could be proud of;
  • Nikita and Vika are in love;
  • He rents a small flat and she stays with the mother of one of their coaches to improve her English;
  • They were doing a question/answer thing with Zueva to see how much she knows about Vika and Nikita off the ice and one of the questions to Zueva was "What was Vika's riskiest ever move", to which Zueva said: "Falling in love with Nikita" and to the question "What is Vika most afraid of" Zueva answered: "Nikita";
  • Vika said how she is totally devoted to Nikita and trusts him completely and how she could never imagine skating with anyone else;
  • Zueva said that Nikita is very musical and has the rare ability to hear and interpret music - even more so than Scott Moir, which Zueva said was a huge compliment and although she said Nikita obviously has other weaknesses - musicality is his greatest strength;
  • Both Zueva and Nikita said Vika was very beautiful - Zueva said she had a remarkable pure Russian beauty;
  • Nikita said that Vika is almost like a muse to him when he sees how beautiful she looks on the ice;
  • They showed an argument between Nikita and Vika in training when Nikita was laying it into Vika because she made a mistake;
  • Vika and Nikita both said that they argue sometimes (Nikita said that he gets very emotional on the ice) but they always make up afterwards and spend as much time as possible off the ice together;
  • Although Zueva is very strict, Nikita said that when he got sick she took care of him like a mother;
  • Zueva loves pets and keeps a load of different pets in her home - she joked that there were not huge differences between training people and pets;
  • Zueva's son Fedor graduated with an economics degree and is now working for some big consulting firm - she does not need to worry about him;
  • Zueva also talked about how sorry she was that the split with Shpilband happened, but that it was in no way at her initiative;
  • She then spoke about training Gordeeva and Grinkov - that Katia was not only beautiful on the outside, but that she was a beautiful and incredibly strong-willed person who was extremely disciplined and hard-working, whereas Sergei was although of course very talented - more everyone's mate, always up for a laugh and very popular and not as strong-willed as Katia;
  • She said they were such a beautiful family - that Sergei had everything: success, a beautiful wife and daughter and that they were very happy;
  • Zueva was at the training session when Sergei died;
  • She said Sergei did a throw, which Katia landed beautifully and then he did a slow lap around the rink holding his back; then he lay down in the middle of the rink on his back;
  • Katia went up to Zueva asking her what was wrong with him and Zueva told her to call an ambulance and gave Sergei mouth to mouth (which all coaches in Canada are trained to do) but he died instantly;
  • Katia was offered many different skating partners, but did not even entertain the idea to team up with anyone else;
  • Zueva then choreographed Katia's iconic performance for Sergei's memorial and she carries the recording with her;
  • When Vika and Nikita were nervous right before a Grand Prix event, she played Katia's performance to them and they both started to cry right before they had to go out onto the ice;
  • Zueva told them to be happy that they have each other and their health and she said that people need to live everyday of their lives to the fullest and not make any plans for the future.
[editor's note: Vika is completely devoid of any personality whatsoever - it's like a vacuum :wideeyes:]

Well that sure sounds like a healthy partnership.

Panova had a bitch face second only to Tsareva, too bad. But I think Maria needs someone who will really work on her basics and expression.

Stealing skaters again... :blah:
Proklova with her injuries didn't work out, so she is chasing after healthy, successful and experiened junior to bring her immediate medals next season?
I don't like those tactics so much.

Oh, gosh, don't mention Proklova! :(

I like Maria S a lot. I'm not sure I see Buyanova as a fit for her. I maintained a fantasy Maria could go to Rafael A. after she visited his group last year. He could work on her jumps and Ashley W could show her how to sell a program! Also, Raf's students usually have great programs, which unfortunately cannot be said of all Buyanova's skaters...
