Fall 2022-Summer 2023 New/Returning TV/Streaming Shows

It's The Weeknd. Because... ?

Not surprised he can't act. What about Lily-rose Depp?
Not impressed but then I hate the material she was given. There also seems to be this effort to keep her in minimal clothing. It’s like she is there to be his plaything. Maybe I am being too harsh. But I am not going to waste any more time on this one.

The Last Thing He Told Me - A decent mystery but very formulaic and predictable. It’s on Apple. I think it is time Apple buys a defunct or in trouble studio for their content. It’s been a couple years and they still don’t have much on there.

I had a day off today and it is a monsoon outside so I decided to rewatch "Lonesome Dove." After all of these years it is still wonderful. Most of all Robert Duvall as Gus McCrea is central to the series but Tommy Lee Jones, Diane Lane, Danny Glover, Chris Cooper, Anjelica Huston, Robert Urich and Ricky Schroeder are so, so good in this as well. Plus the soundtrack features a lovely waltz as the theme. I loved Gus when I first saw it and I love him now.

Watched the fourth and final season of Manifest on Netflix. I watched the first three seasons on NBC, got bored midway through the first season. But because of PVR, I kept watching the episodes but while cooking dinner and washing the dishes. I don’t remember plot details.

And then NBC canceled and Netflix resurrected it for one final season of 20 episodes split into two parts. Binging this stoopid show, I actually paid attention. I LOVE DREA SO MUCH! And Olive is really well written and portrayed for one of those characters that don’t get to have special powers and can act out.

What I hate? So much? Angelina is one the worst tv characters in herstory. Ugh, I hate Angelina!!!!

The ending was kinda heartwarming but kinda lame too. If I paid more attention, i probably would have enjoyed all of the callbacks. Maybe I will one day watch from the start, after I made dinner and washed the dishes.

I binged "The Tower" on Britbox and hope we will see more of this show. Gemma Whelan is the star and if you don't recognize the name she was the brave, sarcastic warrior Lady Yara Greyjoy on "Game of Thrones." In this show she is a smart, by-the-book detective working some difficult cases. Throughout the series she often crosses paths with a young officer in uniform, Lizzie Adama, who is passionate and sometimes reckless. We are also following a detective named Steve Bradshaw who worked with Whelan. This is a thoughtful, interesting series with both mysteries to solve and slice of life problems to quell. Good stuff.

I'm going through the final 10 episodes now and if I weren't a completionist on this story, I think I would've given up early on into season 3. The acting is SO abysmal almost all around (both young and older Cal lead this list but it extends way past him in season 4), and the lines are delivered so half-hearted in many instances. That, and I believe I read the story was intended to be told over the course of six seasons but since it got rushed, I feel like this last season has been all over the place.

I finished my two-month journey through Downton Abbey plus the two movies. S6 turned out to be one of my favorite seasons. I found myself laughing out loud at so many moments in it. The pacing never ceased to boggle my mind as well as the poor character development for some, but overall I’m going to miss my nightly dose of Grantham drama. Molesley became my favorite character. Loved his silliness and how earnest he was.

I read they may get some of the cast back together for a seventh season. I would love to have them pick up the story closer to WWII and see the kids when they’re grown up. Sybbie in her fabulous French mansion!

Aside from the love story that I will assume never existed, I really loved the final season of Never Have I Ever. Funny and heartwarming. But man, I hated how they resolved Devi’s love life.

I have rewatched the first 2 seasons of Ted Lasso and enjoyed it maybe more than the first time, knowing what’s coming. I saw more readily the signs that Nate was going to be susceptible to Rupert’s maneuvering. And interesting to see Coach Beard’s early days of his romance with Jade. I think with all this fresh in my mind I’ll watch the 3rd season with a bit more appreciation.

Just binge watched Queen Charlotte on Netflix this weekend. Absolutely loved it way more than the proper Bridgerton series. Extremely touching love story, well-acted too. And on a personal note, the actor who plays King George is a dead ringer for one of my favorite students.

Bloody time zones. Hurry up and be midnight on the west coast of the USA so I can watch Strange New Worlds. It's already the afternoon of the 15th here.

ETA: Looks like they're setting up a story arc for the season. Lots of humour (even Mr Bunny Hop, not a sci-fi fan, laughed). Needed more Pike.

Has anyone watched Silo on Apple TV? Is it any good?
Eps 1 and 2, the setup, were great. Ep 3 I thought was pure filler. Eps 4-7 have been good.
People are raving about the books, though, and telling show watchers that this will absolutely be worth their time.

@sk9tingfan I was coming to post this--I was so excited when I saw it out of nowhere on my DVR. These looks down memory lane   A few are just boring and really not that bad, but some...:yikes: I wouldn't be claiming my children either.

Can't wait for tonight!!

And Just Like That S2 (Sex and the City reboot) premieres Thursday on MAX.

Just watched Alex Borstein's special Corsets and Clown Suits. It desperately needed an editor and came off as something being workshopped and not in a good way.

It's both over the top and not enough. If you want gross-out female humor, watch/rewatch Ali Wong. If you want comedy-not comedy-social commentary, watch/rewatch Hannah Gadsby. If you want Jewish feminist observational humor, go with Sarah Silverman. If you want comedians who sing, Jimmy Fallon.

Some of it is really funny, but a lot of it is a jumbled, mixed-message mess.

For me watching “Black Mirror” is like snacking on chips or popcorn. You might mean to eat a little but you keep going until the bag is empty. The new season is out and I binged it. And I enjoyed it. They always have a good mix of dread inducing, funny and thoughtful stories.

I binged on Shrinking. I thought it was good and moving, with some laugh out loud moments. Harrison Ford is clearly having a good time. I thought the characters were great. I recommend it.

And this is not a show, but it's not a movie either so I'm writing about it here. I watched the English National Ballet's production of Giselle by Akram Khan. I was BLOWN. AWAY. I read about it when it was first staged and I've always been interested. And I currently have a trial of Marquee TV on Amazon and I've been watching a lot of dance. I finally watched it. It was amazing. Oh how I wish I could see it live.
