Fall 2022-Summer 2023 New/Returning TV/Streaming Shows

Your May 4th and 5th mentions were already listed in the post you quoted. @AliasJohnDoe posts show debuts weekly. You've jumped the gun and taken their work that they have graciously done for a long time. Those posts are easy to see here.

Your post comes across as disrespectful.
Excuse me? If I went out of my way to to update the listing without knowing this was a standing practice and going to cause a questionable problem. I will no longer try to be helpful and do so. How it is disrespectful is a mystery to me.

Highly recommended if you like British TV and movies. I'm unlikely to run out of things to watch on BritBox, both stuff I haven't seen but also old favourites from my childhood that I'm watching again (sometimes more than once). For me it's extremely good value. I also like that you can pay yearly instead of monthly, but understand that's not everyone's preference.

If I was trying to whittle down streaming service subscriptions whether or not to retain Britbox wouldn't even be a question.

I find the TV series of Outlander much better than the books. I confess I've been in the middle of reading book 4 (I think?) for over a year now and I just can't persuade myself to pick it up again. Nothing is happening.
Some of the book series is better than others, I agree. I also been paying for nothing lately on STARZ. I loved the White queen, The White Princess, the Red Queen and Becoming Elizabeth, but no other series of that genre is forthcoming. I'm thinking of canceling STARZ after the first half of Outlander's 7th season. Maybe I'll try Britbox.

PEACE! :) @sk9tingfan didn't know about this current thread when she posted her TV listings in its own thread in OTBT yesterday (which has since been deleted after I linked to this one). Blame me if you want to. ;)

Now THAT was an episode of "Mrs. Maisel." Brilliantly structured, tightly written, and so moving. And Borstein, Brosnahan, and Zegen acted the daylights out of it. I don't watch much TV, so I don't know what the competition's like, but I could see Zegen getting his first Emmy nomination for that. (The other two always get nominated, so I'm sure they will again!)

It's incredible what the Palladinos can do when they really put their minds to it, and it's what keeps me coming back even though I get so frustrated with their bad habits. I'm just wondering now what's left to cover in the remaining three episodes, since they covered so much in this one!

Wow wow wow wow. I am all in my feels after that one. Give Rachel and Alex Emmys right now for that fight. Are there only nine episodes and not ten? 😭

"Dalgleish" has returned for a second season on Acorn. I dearly love any P.D James mystery and I was surprised by how much I enjoy Bertie Carvel in this role. Roy Marsden had the role for years and was very good. But I find I like Carvel even more. He seems like the perfect fit somehow.

I wish I had Acorn. I may need to get the free trial through Prime.

I did not realize there was an American version of the Great British Baking Show and it's been on for a while. I saw an ad for it on my Roku and didn't really expect to like it, but I did. I liked Ellie and Zach a lot better than Noel and The Toe (though that's a low bar, I still miss the original two female hosts :wuzrobbed ). The contestants are more effusive than the British bakers but you know as an American, I like that. I LOVE that they kept to the same formula, everyone's nice, helping each other, not super competitive, a good cross section--the grandma, the scientist, the young college student, diversity in ages and backgrounds, etc. It's a good mix, England or America.

OTOH, I think I'm done with The Company You Keep. It would have been better as a miniseries on Netflix or Amazon. I'm pretty sure it's getting to the point where it's either going to have to get silly or violent. I thought it was just going to be a frothy Thomas Crowne Affair type thing and the first couple of episodes were but now it's just starting to devolve into tired cliches. I'm kind of rooting for Daphne (the bad guy) at this point; at least she's fun.

I'm still enjoying this. I really like all of the characters. Well, except for two... I am wondering if Daphne might be brought into the good guys group like Milo's was. And maybe season two is Daphne getting her revenge on those two people I am not rooting for.

I'm watching it on my laptop as Comcast does not yet support the application. The account setup is free.

Saw a little movie on Netflix called 50-1. It’s the story behind Mine That Bird’s 2009 Kentucky Derby win. I really enjoyed it and have watched those final minutes with the race a couple times over! LOL Famous last words: “Please god… Just don’t let him be last!” I think somebody promised Bird a lifetime supply of free donuts if he won! LOL

Watch the overhead footage of the actual race, too —it’s crazy!

This was an amazing story. The actual Mine That Bird was in the movie, too, though not the race scenes. I got to meet him and pet him maybe 5 years ago when he was living on a ranch belonging to one of his owners in Roswell, NM. He was kind of disappointed I had no treats but he did let me scratch his back and neck, which was cool.

He did very well in the triple crown races, with a first, second, and third, but then they got a different trainer and really didn’t manage him right. I don’t think he won another race, and he was one of the vanquished champions in Zenyatta’s Breeders’ Cup Classic win. But they love him so much and he has a home forever with them.

ETA: I just watched that race again and it is really crazy the way he won. I think sometimes people don’t give Birdie enough credit for the courage he showed weaving around other horses and then flying through a small hole on the rail. Crazy.
