Re-posting from the Fantasy on Ice shows thread in GSD:

Jason did a Fan Q&A in Kobe (9 mins.) that was uploaded today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6IZ_9DYG8k

He said the Fantasy on Ice organizers requested that he perform "I Lived" for the first 2 shows in Kobe and then "Sinnerman" for the 3rd show. "Memory" is the name of the song performed live by Seiko Niizuma (Jason's 2nd solo in Kobe).

ETA that Jason has shared 4 backstage photos at the "Final Fantasy On Ice Show Today!": https://www.instagram.com/p/CfP7lTThK8K/

What's next for you?
I'd love to know the answer to that! Being a post-Olympic year, I'll probably do some shows, travel and teach some seminars, and take a break of sorts to decompress after such an intense competitive season. From there, I have lots of decisions I will have to make, but will try to give myself time to figure that out.

I really don't want to think about Jason retiring from competitive skating. He brings something unique to the ice that has me watching his routines again and again, even when they aren't perfect from a technical standpoint.

I don't think JB has a choice! He can't keep up technically! Artistic scores can't save him if other skaters performing multi-quads!

And yet, I really enjoy his skating and remember a lot of his performances. Many of the guys that do quads are not all that interesting. Quads just did not happen for him and he should not be mocked for this, IMHO.

Who's mocking? These are facts! I can watch him perform Schindler's List over & over, but he isn't going to win anything w/ it! :40beers:

Brown was one 3S instead of a 2S away from 4th overall over three clean-, one "q"- and one "<"- quad Yuzuru Hanyu and a two clean-, one "<"-quad Cha in Beijing. Only five Men who placed below him didn't have quads in the SP, and only three didn't have quads in the FS, and some had multiple quads in the FS, yet he placed higher than they. His FS in the Men's Event was 12+ higher than Zhou's one clean-, one "q", two "<"-quad FS in the Team Event.

They didn't win anything, either. (ETA: Except Zhou, and it wasn't because his performance was stellar.)

I wish that there were good pro skating competitions that focused on things other than jumps. At the peak of pro skating in the U.S., it got a bit crazy. There were almost too many events. But, it would be great if people like Jason and Nathan and Hanyu had events to compete in. Between injuries and age and focusing on college, doing tons of difficult jumps isn't realistic for these guys, but they still could put out programs that fans would enjoy.

I don't think we've seen all that Jason has to offer artistically and we might see some even greater programs if he did not have to do so many jumps.

There are plenty of tours Jason can sign up to mesmerize the masses, but real competition should be behind him! :scream::2faced::wall:

Yes. I recognize that his jump content isn't quite up to par by today's standards. But I enjoy his performances so much more than most of the multi-quad skaters. And I'm sad that we won't be able to see him skate very often anymore, once he makes it official. Opportunities to watch skating beyond competition are virtually nonexistent in the U.S., aside from SOI. There are tours, but not here.

Jason will be skating to Melancholy for the short program and The Impossible Dream for the long program.
What a great read! I love his attitude. I'm glad we'll be able to see more skating from him and that he's given himself permission to try something without knowing whether it will work out well and without putting an insane amount of pressure on himself.

I loooooooooooved Melancholy on sight when he debuted it all the way back at Peggy Fleming Trophy in 2020, and was disappointed he didn't use it that season, and then again during the Olympic season either. I think it's the most natural choreography for him, it lends him just as much warmth as he lends it.

Jason is the guest on today's special episode of the "This Week in Skating" podcast! :)

ETA:

Jason mentioned he will be flying directly from San Jose after Nationals to the "Art of Ice" shows in Switzerland (February 2-12, 2023) for 2 weeks - his participation was announced on artonicemagic's Instagram account on Nov. 11: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Ck0up1nIbVc/

He says he is "not going to Nationals to make the World team" but "if I was selected for the World team I would love to go and compete in Japan."
