Taking a moment to walk down memory lane, since we just finished world juniors. Ten years ago, this junior skater stole my heart and turned me into an uber, and here I am to this day. He has continued to mature physically, artistically, and by his own account emotionally throughout all the ups and downs, but all of the unique ingredients were there.

Wow. Thanks for sharing this. As the commentator said, “exquisite”. Amazing at his age then.

Jason is scheduled to perform in Yuzuru Hanyu's Notta Stellata ice show in Miyagi (Hanyu's hometown, Sendai, is in Miyagi prefecture, that was devastated by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake), March 10-12, 2023
Jason has posted 2 group photos from rehearsal: https://www.instagram.com/p/CpkJ5MQhIe7/

The program for the Stars on Ice in Japan that is taking place now has Q and As from participating skaters.
Jason says he wants to learn back flip after this season is over!
This should be easy for him and such a guaranteed crowd pleaser! It always amazes me how people will applaud and scream for a relatively basic (versus a triple axel or quad) acrobatic trick.

Jason scored a ISU Season Best 95.61 [47.66 TES / 47.95 PCS was highest in the field] and his 4th place contributed 9 points to Team USA's 1st place standing after Day 1. :) His quotes in the mixed zone afterwards:
“I love this event, I am so happy to be here.
It was so cool to get to stay in Japan and tour with so many of the best skaters in the world.
We did 10 shows in 11 days. I was able though to go out there every single night and watch the performances of the skaters.
All four World Champions were there, Senior and Junior. Watching all of them do what they are so passionate about was so inspiring and so much fun. Also being there with Yuzu… he elevates every single thing he‘s in.
About this event, it‘s just a different level of energy and excitement about it. You just want to do so well for your teammates. It‘s about managing the energy to not get over-excited.
As team captain he took the lead in decorating the team box (Rohene is with him in Tokyo :)): https://www.instagram.com/p/Cq7ifxfBGqe/

Alexa & Brandon showed off their "team matching shirts" that Jason had made up in Alexa's post yesterday: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cq93qouPcm3/

ETA that Isabeau’s & Amber’s shirts can be seen in Jason’s photo #3 of 6: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cq_mpaaBt0i/

Cross-posting this here:

Too busy to explain the details of this interesting article about Jason, so I just quote a few sentences. He was interviewed when the ITNY honored him last week. It seems that Jason has clearly decided to keep competing next season.

https://number.bunshun.jp/articles/-/857520

"When I called my parents after the Beijing Olympic Games, they asked me crying, 'Is it really over (for you)?' At the time, I thought that was fine. Now I feel as if I finished one book and now I am writing a sequel."

Last season, he returned to Toronto to train several times, spending two weeks each time, including before the US Nationals.

"I did it this way on a trial basis this season and my coaches told me it was a success." I will not be able to compete for a full season, but will probably continue to do shows and compete at the same pace next season as I did this season. Maybe I will compete in a Senior B (CS-level) competition before the US Nationals to get ready, but I will discuss that with my coaches as well."

More machine translated excerpts from Akiko Tamura's article linked above:
... he participated in the memorial event "Notte Stellata" for the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11th, which was produced by Yuzuru Hanyu. He was the only overseas male player invited.
“It was a special show with a special meaning, and it was an honor to be able to perform. It was a show with a small number of people and a good atmosphere, and I think all the skaters gave their best performances for Yuzu. He has taken this sport to the next level, but when I saw his performance, I thought, 'Yuzu is Yuzu after all!'
After appearing on the show, Jason said he spent about three weeks preparing for the world championships at an ice rink in Funabashi, Chiba, where coach Kensuke Nakaniwa coaches Rinka Watanabe and others.
“Kensuke and Rinka have been really good to me.In addition, there are many hockey-sized rinks in North America, so I was grateful that I was able to make adjustments at the Olympic-sized rink. They gave me ice, so Rinka and I were basically allowed to monopolize the ice.”
“It was impossible for me to compete all season, so I tried a different approach. I was doing shows, so I had no physical problems. But the number of ice shows is different: I skated 24 shows in "Stars on Ice" alone, and participated in three different tours in the summer. October, January, Art on Ice in February, and Yuzu's show in early March. I have been blessed with many opportunities to perform. Under various conditions, such as sometimes not having time to warm up, you still have to perform at your best. I think that experience helped me in the game.”
There was a time when I hurt my back, but now I'm in perfect physical condition, which is one of the reasons.
“My trainer told me that if I still wanted to do it, I could continue. Now I spend a lot of time on core training and physical therapy. I spend more time practicing on the ice than before. It's a little less, and it's more run-through rather than section-by-section practice, and I've done 6 programs in total in the past year, always focused on something new and creative. I think it's done."
Coach Tracy Wilson was also supportive of balancing shows and competitions.
“Tracy clearly told me that if I wanted to participate in an ice show, I would give him full support, but if it was a half-baked show, I wouldn’t cooperate (laughs).”
Last season, I returned to Toronto for training in two-week intervals, including before the U.S. Championships.
“I tried this as a trial this season, and my coaches told me it was a success.
[The rest of the paragraph is translated above by @YukiNieve at the end.]
Even so, Jason is one of the few storytellers on ice.
“For me, it has always been my goal to tell stories on the ice. I rested and didn't know how the judges would grade me. But I'm happy that my performance was appreciated. There are many athletes who were pushed out of the competition because they couldn't land six quads. But I want to tell you that you don't have to give up."
The gala performance was "Melancholy" choreographed by Ward. He received a big round of applause and cheers from New Yorkers.

Jason will skate for Friends on Ice shows in Yokohama, Japan (8/25-8/27) again.
Thanks! Which is "confirmation" that he plans to skip the Grand Prix again -- expected, based on his post-Worlds interviews -- because usually Champs Camps is held during this time.

I watched 2023 World FS again where Jason scored 95+ PCS. I`m just in awe. Except for some slightly muscley 3A`s everything was effortless. The flexibility - ok that`s somewhat genetics. But the positions in the spins, working the blade during steps, and particularly the jumps are amazing. His toe jumps - requisite speed, the toe gently into the ice, straight up/around, perfect position for finishing, long runinng out holding beautiful positions. They used to say Sasha never held a bad position and I think that`s true of Jason too.
