Jumps were a bit of a struggle today, especially in the first half of the program; hope he can get the pops under control before the jgp. I still love his basic skating, though.

Thomas Pelletier should follow Simard & Pierro into pairs skating as he looks like he's tall enough.

Even though its last year's free, I love Phan's long and hope to see it skated better on the JGP.

Pelletier has a nice elegant style, and his jumps looked relatively controlled despite the falls. He also looks quite tall and lanky - any chance he could do pairs?

Senior men are up!

Nicolas Nadeau
3a hand down
4t 2-foot
3lo3t

He seems to do a lot of programs in this sort of jazzy-crooner style, but he does it well so I'm not complaining. His spins have been weak in the past; I thought his sit spin and combo spin were maybe a bit improved here, but his camel spin was still unsteady.

He's unrefined and his jumps are kind of wild, but Turcotte has personality in spades - I was grinning through his entire program.

Well, in this case it is the same program as last season. I enjoyed watching Nic. Messy landings aside, it was nice to see the performance. After a whole summer of watching only ice dance and rewatching great skates from last year, logging back on for the mess that is a summer men's event is a bit of a shock.

My thanks to everyone for their play-by-play comments today. I've enjoyed them.

Ramilison was beautiful. So expressive. I love the way he carries himself; he looks like he does a lot of off-ice dance & movement training. Another wild jumper though, and some spin problems.

Tuned in just in time to see him and he is lovely!

I want to get back on the Nic Nadeau bandwagon but I find that he has kinda stagnated in his skating over the last few years.

I agree, unfortunately. I think he’s a great talent, but something doesn’t seem to be clicking. Maybe a coaching change could be a good thing for him.

Guay has been around forever in the men's event at nationals, but I don't remember him ever being so "smooth" before. I really enjoyed him today; he did a great job expressing the character of his music.

I could watch Sherriff-Clayton skate all day. :swoon: His edges are to die for, and he really feels the music. Unfortunately, iirc from past performances, he's not the most consistent jumper. He reminds me a bit of Liam Firus in that regard.

Another elegant skater who really puts himself into expressing his music. I remember "discovering" Brandon Day at nationals a couple of years ago, and admiring his posture. He had jump issues here today, as he did then, but it looked like he had good spring in his lutz.

Graham was hot-and-cold for me. He had some nice expressive moments, but at other times looked kind of lost and not really into the performance. I'm sure his jump errors didn't help.

Thanks for the play-by-play jump notes tonight, @JoannaLouise! :)

Junior Men FS protocols are published: https://resultats.patinage.qc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/14_det.pdf

Joseph Phan had a much better SP here (~15 points higher than at Minto Summer Skate), scored almost 7 points lower in his FS today, 202.39 total (193.25 at Minto).

Nic Nadeau kept his SP from last season to Harry Connick Jr's "A Wink and a Smile." I'll edit in the link to the Senior Men SP protocols when they're up (ETA): https://resultats.patinage.qc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/15_det.pdf

it's been two years that Nadeau either keeps his long from previous year and now it's the SP...I also feel he has stagnated in his skating over the last few years and he's unable to show versatility in his program style. I know he has good coach staff but he need a kick in the... to get him out of his comfort zone, maybe a change is in order! He should do like Phan and go train somewhere where competition is there everyday!

I'm watching junior ladies. Blanchard had a fairly good skate. She landed both triple flips, and two triple toes in combination but fell on the lutz and did a double salchow at the end. I think edge jumps aren't her thing. Anyway I think she'll probably get a JGP assignment after this.

I have mixed feelings about lyrics with music - like some - not so much others. After raising a large family though, I had to learn to pay attention to lyrics even if I like the feel of the melody. Not sure why anyone would choose to skate to a song about things not being easy - in case you have a rough skate. Also - nothing with the word "falling" or "fall" anywhere!! Well, maybe "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You" as everyone knows what that falling is about.

I missed Matte/Ferland. How did they skate? They scored high 50s and seemed happy in the kiss-n-cry.

Brasseur/Bardei's twist is awesome. There is real potential with this team and I think she is a complete star. Someone please tell me he can jump and that this was just a fluke!

Yes I need to know too, can Mark jump?!?! as if he can, man they are on their way as Justine is a total star out there now that she is finished with puberty.
