Carreira/Ponomarenko Need a Cheer Thread

Someone's summer video had cpom in it and they were working a lift off-ice but it wasn't long enough to see if it was new or not
Oh I missed that - I do feel like a second healthy off season (as far as we know) and the season before the Olympic season is the time to test new lifts out, compete them and tweak them so I have my fingers crossed!

Here are YT links to the songs -

I'm loving these choices for them!

I found some other fancams!

I really love the intricacy of the details in the choreo, the style of the dance is carried throughout and really suits them and they really seem to be having fun with it. I spent a lot of time watching Anthony in this, he especially seemed very at home. Of course there are things to clean up and sharpen, but for August this is very good!

In a way it's pretty fitting and not surprising they've gone this direction for the RD -- blues/swing were styles they seemed to love and do well with as juniors and younger seniors. But watching something like their 2016-17 SD or even the "Too Darn Hot" RD alongside this, it's really exciting to see not just how they've obviously grown as skaters, but how much more complex the material can be now. All the little details of footwork* are showing up even under spotlights from odd camera angles. Cannot wait to see it in competition form.

*Which also, something I enjoy about them choosing this style is that whereas the disco programs, for example, can rely on a lot of upper body action to define themselves as disco, this requires so much more from the knees down to look accurate to its dance style. I love it when ice dancers are challenged!!

I really like the direction of this program. Great music choice that will get them noticed and lots of room to grow through the year. I was a little surprised by what seems like a pretty basic lift. After the ones they have been doing, the lift feels like a step back.

Another video of their RD, this time from the official stream. I loved getting a closer look at some of the details!
I can't get over how complex this program is (other than the lift I guess haha). I would not have expected this intricacy from them a few years ago lol.

I'm hoping the lift is just an August placeholder and they'll switch it out for something a little more interesting because the rest of that program is just so good. It's intricate and incorporates the dance style into the footwork, I love all the kicks and flicks, and they perform it like the rent is due.

Honestly, apart from the lift being same old-same old, my only nitpick is Anthony's costume, such as it is. There's something weird about the cut of the jacket and shirt that makes it look really ill-fitted. I don't have much experience with making men's clothing, which is why I'm not able to fully pinpoint and articulate what the issue is or how to fix it but it's just wrong. Part of the issue is that the upper torso area is too loose/baggy in the front and yet tight across the back/shoulders which makes his posture seem hunched. That hunchy-ness isn't helped by the bagginess on the sleeves at the wrist or at the hem, or the black-on-black from the tunic to the pants. I could be wrong but I think his whole look and posture could be improved with a nice white dress shirt, a fitted vest in a color matching Christina's costume and black pants.

All in all, Anthony just needs a bit of an upgrade in his costuming. Maybe more inspiration from Adrian and less from Scott on this?

I think both of these costumes are placeholders - seeing as this is her Too Darn Hot dress. Intrigued to see what the real costumes are.

Agree overall on his general costuming though. I think the Perfume costume worked for him - the way it sat was great for his posture. However, I still think his best to date was the very Scott-esque navy number he had for Wicked Game

I was thinking it was a placeholder too since I've seen him wear it for other exhibition programs in the past. I do agree the Perfume costume worked well for him - I was just thinking, in general terms of what would work well with the swing theme they've chosen for the RD.

yeah I think a high waisted trouser that is ever so slightly flared and on top a more loose fitting solid coloured shirt with a mid-sized collar and chest pockets (possibly in the same colour/print as Christina’s dress) with either long rolled up sleeves or short sleeves would look good and also suit him. While a jacket would maybe fit the era better, I don’t think they work super well for him and shorten him a little

Wasn’t that Anthony’s original Summertime costume? And he’s worn it for exhibitions. There’s no way these are their final costumes. They will have more period appropriate costumes before their first competition. Dying to to know when that is! Nebelhorn??

Could be? I feel the dance schedule is a bit off this year with no NA challenger for them and Finlandia off the cards. LaLa are scheduled for Nebelhorn so IAM are definitely doing to send a few I would imagine?

Their GP starts at NHK so they could be assigned to something as late as Budapest Trophy which would still give them plenty of time to finetune their programs for the GP after they get judges feedback.
