Hard candy ended for me in my twenties when I actually broke a jaw tooth on a jaw breaker. My dentist was able to save the tooth, and I learned a very valuable lesson … don't always bite everything (like Jaw breakers) that you put into your mouth.![]()
Speaking of American chocolate, I like American Kit Kats, but I wish we also got the cool flavors in the U.S. that they have around the world, especially in Japan. I guess we can blame Hershey for that as they own U.S. Kit Kat while Nestle owns the global Kit Kat. At least Asian stores around here have some of the cool flavors.
I can't remember the brand, but those cheap gift box candies that are sold at CVS and Walgreens and stores like that. I have bad memories of biting into mysterious chocolates and ending up with some disgusting (to a child) liqueur or icky strawberry flavor. And the chocolate tasted waxy.
The ones my mother bought had no guide. I’d wait until nobody was watching and break them slightly open from the bottom and then smoosh the nasty ones back together. My mom used to keep boxes of those stashed away and I'd go into them. The ones she bought usually had a guide in them as to what chocolate was what, so you could choose the caramel and skip the strawberry cream (yuk).
I am sure it was Finnish.I have never hated any sweets. Until i tasted the Swedish (or was it Finnish) licorice that has the aftertaste of urine. That was seriously awful. Until then, I didn’t mind licorice, but our one doesn’t taste like if one is licking the toilet.
Did it also smell of ammonia?Someone brought Swedish licorice into work last week. It was the most horrible thing I've ever tasted. And I love black licorice.

Thought of another "candy" that I hate.... chocolate covered coffee beans.
