Boikova-Kozlovski Cheer thread

T&M had great basic skating skills when they had just turned senior. They had speed, a big triple twist, and big throws and they were consistent too. They have a lot of natural talent, like B&K. T&M did not get good programs and they were sort of ignored by their coach, in favor of another pair. That won’t happen to B&K. They have the best pairs coach in the world.
I was so excited about T/M in their first season. They were so stunning on the ice and that 3Tw was unreal. But they never developed the way they could have. The star power kind of evaporated IMO.

I had wanted T&M to go to Moskvina, since day one. She knows how to use the natural talent of skaters to make them champions.

I agree! Universe, I beg you! She knows how to find the strength in skaters. Mozer just doesn’t seem to care anymore.

It seems that once Mozer got V&T to win the OGM, she was no longer motivated in helping young teams develop. She supported and invested in Stolbova Klimov only to experience a heartbreak. She completely ignored T&M even when it was clear that they were the future. I will never understand that.

Moskvina, OTOH is never satisfied with one OGM. That is why her pairs have won so many. B&K are in good hands. I hope they stay healthy for this whole Olympic quarter. I remember how B&S started with great potential, skated to traditional music and became one of the greatest pairs ever. B&K have that kind of potential.

Did she really ignore them though? I always thought it was more that she was kind of clueless of what to do with them and that's perhaps why she didn't seem as invested. Maxim had strong opinions and seem to be the main driving force behind V/T and Xenia seems to have been the same with S/K. Both had a strong drive and self vision and Mozer seems to have been more like the support system, guidance councilor, who helped but didn't necessarily drive the bus. In a way she was like what Scott Williams was for Michelle Kwan in 2003.

Neither Tarasova or Morozov are that type of character and need a more hands on coach who makes the big big decisions and knows exactly what to do. Mozer never seem to be that and that's why the packaging of her teams seems off most the time. Without a driving force like Maxim or Xenia involved she's lost and the end result is at best questionable. Moskvina obviously doesn't have that issue. She's the head driver who knows exactly where to take her bus and that's why she's had so many champions over such a long period of time. It's too bad T/M don't have her in their corner but of course brilliant for B/K. As long as they stay healthy the sky's the limit!

“Supported and invested in Stolbova/Klimov only to experience a heartbreak?” Sounds like Mozer and I need to get some coffee together and share painful memories.

I think Mozer invested in S/K until suddenly the injuries came and she decided it was impossible for them to win the Olympics. She briefly picked up T/M, but when she realized they couldn’t beat Savchenko/Massot for the Olympic gold, she gave up. It seems like she thinks Zabiiako is her only hope right now. But she really should be investing in T/M, because they do have the talent to win in 2022 whereas I don’t think Z/E do.

Moskvina is just a jewel. I appreciate that she didn’t slap B/K with programs they couldn’t handle. She didn’t give them overpowering mature programs that made them look like babies; she acknowledged their age and showcased them as a young and fresh pair. I do see a bit of Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze in them, I can’t wait to see them develop in the next few years.

Cross-posting from FRWL thread:
New interview with Aleksandra Boikova and Dmitrii Kozlovskii

- You competed at the high-level competitions this season, and it's another level of responsibility, more pressure. How did you cope with this?

Dmitrii: From the very beginning of the season we tried to discover this new level for ourselves, so it's rather strange to talk about pressure. We didn't dwell on it. First of all, we tried to show our best skating - to skate cleaner, clearer, in synch; in order to prove ourselves on the world stage. And we succeeded. For Sasha and me: the more people in the audience - the better, it's easier to perform.

Aleksandra: I can add from myself, that the whole season we tried to skate more maturely. I tried to do everything more consciously than last year. I also tried to "make friends with my brain" and it actually happened. We are happy with the season. Yes, Dima?

Dmitry: Of course. We talked about this many times.

- Which competition is the most memorable?

Dmitrii: Of course, the World Championship. It was not that easy, preceded by hard and systematic preparation. And Japan isn't close. You see, the World Cup is the key, the most important competition of the season, and the fact that we were able to show our best in Japan evokes strong emotions. It is impossible not to recall the European Championship as well. Our first medal on this level! And nevertheless the World Championship is the most memorable one.

Aleksandra: I also remember the Grand Prix event in Canada. Our first major international competition, we met with skaters of our team there, met with the guys from other countries. Why do I remember that event in Canada? Because we skated cleanly and became only forth. And I remember how Dima and Morgan (Cipres - note) comforted me. And for a long time I could't recover. So if we talk about the first half of the season, the most memorable event for me was “Skate Canada”. And in the second half - Euros and Worlds. A spent a lot of energy preparing for these events. I remember, I was delighted when I realize that Worlds are on the same week as my school holidays, so it was easier to cope with studies.

- Nowadays most of the senior couples have more or less the same elements, same jump sets and etc. What can you do to compete with them?

Dmitrii: Now pair skating became more like ice dancing, because everyone does almost the same elements, and we want to add some more complicated technical elements. For example, new jumps. But you need to be 100% sure to add them into programs.

Aleksandra: Only when you jump a hundred out of a hundred.

Dmitrii: I would say ten out of ten. As for the rest, according to the new rules, I am not sure if it makes sense to learn, for example, a quadruple twist.

Aleksandra: And I would really like to learn a quad throw. But our coach has a different point of view.

Dmitrii: Artur Leonidovich (Minchuk) understands that quad throws are traumatic. And since the throw landings are much more difficult than jumps, as they requires more energy, more height. And you can easily get hurt while training it. So it turns out that you will spend a huge amount of energy, but one mistake on an element like this will throw you far back.

If the difference in the cost of elements in pair skating was at least the same as it is in the single skating, then it would be worthwhile to learn difficult elements. For example in singles: a triple salchow is 4 points, and a quad salchow is 10. Then it’s worth the risk. And if a quad twist with a little mistake cost less points than a very goos triple twist, then why you need to try this element? At Russian Nats there was a couple who did a quad twist and they received less points than other pairs with good triple twists. And it happened despite the fact that quad twist is difficult to do physically for both partners. It is almost impossible to do a split on the quad twist; and you can execute a quad tans-twist on;y with a 10kg "cat". So you need to add difficulty only by executing the "guaranteed" elements, which you can do consistently. This also applies to both pair elements, and jumps. But sooner or later everything can be learnt and done, so I believe that we need to develop in this aspect.

- If we are talking about jumps - you have 3-3 combination. Are you planning to add something new?

Dmitrii: We are working on all triple jumps now. We have a separate time dedicated only to jumps. We are jumping, working on them, and we'll see later which ones will turn out to be more consistent. But I am convinced that difficult jumps are the future, probably even at the Beijing Olympics. Therefore, one way or another, if we want to compete with top teams who get all 10 in PCS and +5 GOE, then we need to move in this direction. Today, top teams are coming close to the maximum scores with error-free skating. And in order to get on that level, we try to work and develop in all aspects. Of course, we want to win, but there is no athlete who doesn't want this. And we understand that we need to work very hard and make efforts to become better and achieve our goals.

- Did your relationship change during this season?

Aleksandra: Dima and I have known each other for a long time, we have learnt each other characters, but, probably, this year we started to feel each other better as partners.

Dmitrii: You see, every year we get better and better in terms of on ice connection. We learn new transitions, turns, and even programs are easier for us now, because we already know how to do things together. When we started to skate, we didn’t understand how it's possible to di kilian - it’s so difficult! And now we are performing steps and blocks, and we are working much faster, because every year we are on our interactions. Why do Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron skate this way? Because they have been holding each other hands from the age of 8. Why did Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir skate like this? Because they were skating together from childhood. The more you train, the more different situations arise and you have to adjust. And when they arise for the hundredth time, you already know what you need to be do, because you already have this experience.

Thank you for the translation! Google translation of the end of the interview:

- And before the end of May, you need to have time to put new programs. I see Natalya Bestemyanova and Igor Bobrin are helping you.

Dmitry: Yes, they put a short program, arbitrary [long] will do Nikolai Morozov. While we are working on a short one. After the staged work will be a week to roll the program. And on vacation.

- Where to go?

Alexandra: I am in Turkey, where I was last year. I liked it there.

Dmitry: And I go to the south - to the ocean. But this is still far away. Now the main thing - productions and work.

Awesome! Morozov helped them on one of their programs last year and it worked well. Not a fan of the man, but I think he will do good work for them. They are like a perfect blank canvas of talent.

Aleksandra, Dmitrii and Tamara Moskvina were invited to the jubilee show of the “Imperial Russian Ballet” yesterday. Aleksandra even got a chance to try on a real tutu :)

Truer words were never spoken.

So cute! They seem to be having fun, and the tutu looks great on her!

They’re one of my new favorite pairs.

I know they said the short was being done by Natalia Bestemianova and the long by Morozov but do we have any information on any music yet?

Hopefully with the test skates in two months we start hearing things in the coming weeks.

Not yet.

Moskvina usually gives few master-classes in Igora (resort close to St Petersburg) in July/August and her skaters often show their programs there, so we might get some info or even videos before the test skates

This is a team I am most excited to track the progress of this season. They have so much potential. I think they might even become medal contenders and push for Russian #2 this year.

Maybe before Stolbova got her boy released from France. The younger pair teams are going to be in a dog fight for the next 3 years.

They are probably my favorite pair right now. And that program is BORING! I am dumb founded.

What is it about recent Russian Pairs’ boring - or downright awful - musical choices? We can’t even blame Mozer for this one.

I have no clue. And they did so well with their SP last year. I can't believe Moskvina let that pass.

Personally I would love to see Boikova/Kozlovskii, Tarasova/Morozov, and Stolbova/Novoselov all skate well this season and take the three spots for Worlds. To me, they are the three most interesting and skilled teams (I haven’t seen Stolbova/Novoselov skate yet, but she is such an excellent skater and Zabiiako/Enbert aren’t my cup of tea, so I stand by what I said).

I would switch out TM for another interesting new team (no preference really) and I am right with you. ZE bore me to death

I still have hope for T/M because they are getting programs from Zoueva this year, and I still think they’re technical powerhouses, but I’d love to see more emotion from them. My underdog faves are actually Efimova/Korovin!
I think Zabiiako could be interesting if she had a decent program (none of this sword-fighting nonsense), but I’m afraid Enbert is just hopelessly vanilla. I keep hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but so far it isn’t happening.

I remember kinda liking Z when she was skating for Estonia. Maybe it was the OES factor but maybe it is Enbert. Or the combo
Wasnt he kind of interesting with Gerboldt ? Or was that just her bandaged nose?

My top two Russian teams are TM and BK. I don’t want to pick the 3rd team before I see their programs this season.

Oops! This is a BK cheer thread. I am looking forward to their development this season.

She’s actually a good skater, I just think she needs some more suitable programs.

But as @Vash01 said, this is the Boikova/Kozlovskii thread, so maybe we could continue this discussion in the general pairs discussion thread? Thanks!
