Baby gender reveal parties need to stop

That is actually a tradition in Finland - it was referred to as a name-giving ceremony when explained to me, although I don’t know if that is the correct translation of the name of the tradition. We had one (virtually) for my (Finnish) nephew on the weekend. We already knew his first name, but his middle name was revealed during the party. It was fun and frankly, it’s nice to have a reason to celebrate something these days.
Is it? I am a Finn and I have not heard of that. People who do not babtisize their kids can have a name-giving or revealing party, but it is not a tradition. Anyway I hope you had a nice party.

I am with @genevieve , this tradition is so tired.

Another thing I noticed is that people tend to have baby showers before the baby arrive. Is that an American tradition? We like to have them after the baby is born so everyone can meet the baby.

I've only been to a few baby showers, and that was a long time ago when I was in my late teens/early 20s. So I don't know what current traditions are.

I also remember going to a wedding shower, for one particular reason. That is: the bride-to-be was blindfolded and had to perform some sort of task with a stocking (maybe it was all tangled up and she had to untangle it). Everything she said was recorded and repeated, the idea being that these were the things she'd say on her wedding night. And everyone went ho ho ho.

Interesting! I must have misunderstood it as a tradition - all my brother’s friends are having babies and he was going to a lot of these parties (pre-cv). I think got the impression it was a practice that had been around for a while since babies aren’t always named there right away, but I guess I took a few things together and extrapolated.
