Ashley Wagner Cheer Thread #3: The Subject of Tonight's Lecture...

whoa she has to worry about this too???

Has she gone to the police?????? How does she enter?

Whoa that’s so scary! Someone’s broken into her home 3 times already?? I can’t imagine she wouldn’t have already gone to police with this, but I guess the police are having trouble identifying/finding the culprit, despite video evidence. Poor Ashley, this is awful. Now on top of her health I’m also worried about her safety. :(

That is really scary! Poor Ashley! As if she needs this on top of her health issues and trying to qualify for the Olympics. It says the police got involved way before y’all did so thankfully it appears she has gone to the police. Hope she stays safe and gets healthy!
This is horrible! I hope she gets some top notch security and a vicious dog to nail this woman! And I do hope she gets healthy. That took real guts to step up and say she could not skate. And of course, Weir immediately jumped in to say she'd done the wrong thing! Not in my book! I wish her the best.

Going back to La’s theory on Ashley needing Gracie. I can see why that would be a logical hypothesis. I don’t agree though. I think that prior to this past year, Ashley was getting a message from the judges and her country that she was top 4 in the world, especially when she won the world medal. Now, she’s top... 7??? The judges in Boston set Ashley back if you ask me because the medal sent a message to her that if she skates with flare, drama and passion, the under rotated jumps would be overlooked. The incorrect Lutz edge, slight ding but nothing major. NOW, the judges have an array of skaters to choose from that do the jumps well and skate well too, albeit one of those options backloads her entire program. Still, prior to this year, Ashley could bank on going to the Olympics, she makes meaningful money and is still a top skater in her country.

Now, Mirai is trending and pacing to have a moment at Nationals. I truly believe she will be fully baked by then. Bradie came from nowhere and EVERYONE is drooling over her, and for good reason. Karen is a threat for sure and luckily, Gracie is not in the picture. That’s why she turned up to Skate America admittedly under trained. Those jumps look just as under injured as when she’s well. The reverting to old material thing... that said it all if you ask me.

Ashley is by no means a has-been, unless she shows up to National’s with excuses. I think that the landscape changed on her and she feels buried. Time is running out.

There are some earlier pictures on her Instagram taking in snowy environs, and she indicates that she was enjoying Thanksgiving with her family. So presumably the snow in that picture is in the Lake Placid area.

I'm wondering about a coaching change, but I'm not sure that picture indicates it. It's been a mild fall/winter in North America, more or less, so I can't think of any where with both a) a major coach and b) snow on the ground right now.

Since that’s a picture from when she was in Lake Placid for SA, I don’t think the picture has anything to do with her announcement. She went back to California since then. I think it’s just a cute happy picture she wanted to post. And it seems a little bit too cute and happy to foreshadow an announcement that she’s leaving her longtime coaching team and best friend 4 weeks from Nationals.

Because a coaching change is never an easy transition I hope that’s not the case, but I’ll be honest, I’ve always really wondered what a Frank Carroll/Ashley Wagner combination would bring to the ice. He certainly could help her with her spins/footwork, etc. And both are experienced enough to know not to waste each other’s time.

Ashley is a professional and knows a coaching change 3 months before olympics is pointless. I say it's a new man!

A program change this late in the season would be extremely risky. Because of that, we mainly see late program changes only when a new program just isn't working. In Ashley's case, she is skating two well-worn programs that were quite successful for her, so if they are not working, it's not the programs, it's something else that a mere program change probably won't fix.

Wagner stated that due to concussions, she has difficulty learning new programs which is one of the reasons she's using old programs. Bringing out a new program at this point would go against what she's been trying to project since the beginning of the season.

I'm not entirely convinced that Hip Hip Chin Chin is working so well for her this year. She keeps getting buried in the short, and while she's used to working her way up the standings after the short, maybe she's tired of having to work up THAT much.

Agreed. IF she's changing one of her programs, I vote for the SP.

I remember Gracie getting a new SP after the GP season for Nationals during the Olympic year and skating lights out and thinking that Frank was a miracle worker because Gracie looked like a totally different skater and how she just dominated the competition that year. But Gracie was much younger and Ashley isn't in her prime anymore.

I bet the surprise will have little to do with her actual skating. I could see a sponsorship opportunity. I definitely do not see a coaching change happening though I can see how Raf's body language could lead someone to think that. It almost looked Arakawa/Tarasova- ish.

I am betting she shows up to National's with determination and two clean performances. If there is one thing i trust about Ashley it's that she has the presence of mind to throw down in the heat of the moment. Still, she's cutting it close in terms of preparing.
