Adelina Sotnikova uber thread

I noticed the ask me page was down... What happened? Was it the Korean fans or her own fans being pissed she was not assigned to anything?

What's wrong with CoR and one senior B? It doesn't sound bad to me with entering to senior B (hopefully around December) considering she can take her time to prepare for more important events.

Her Russian fans and haters were PISSED. The haters were calling her a liar, saying she faked her injury, calling her names. Haters can never not capitalize on this. Her fans feel disappointed asking her if she was going to compete at CoR or at a Senior B or just Nationals. Her fans on VK are upset, wondering what's going on and want answers. Its a mess, people need to :summer: It took me 12hrs but I'm :summer:

Nothing's wrong with it ;) I don't see her doing more than 1 senior B though.

Alexander Kogan: "We can play Plushenko and Sotnikov in the number of participants in home Grand Prix"

MOSCOW, June 15 - R-Sport, Andrew Simonenko.Two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko and Olympic champion in the women's figure skating Adelina Sotnikova can be claimed on your home Grand Prix after the demonstrate their willingness to collect and control the Russian team in rentals Sochi, where they are obliged to come, said the agency "F-Sport" CEO of the Federation of figure skating in Russia (FFKKR) Alexander Kogan.

On Monday, it became known distribution of skaters for the Grand Prix. Plushenko and Sotnikova absent among the participants of the series. This FFKKR may declare one participant in each kind of the home Grand Prix just before its start. Stage will be held from 20 to 22 November in Moscow.

"Technically, the ability to say Plushenko and Sotnikov at home Grand Prix we have. If athletes have expressed a desire to participate in this tournament, and will be ready, we will include them in the number of participants, - said Kogan on the phone. - And Plushenko and Sotnikova arrive the collection team in Sochi in September and will perform on the control of skating 12-13. At this gathering and to be obliged to hire the whole team of the country. There we see their availability, after which it will be decided, in any coming tournament they will act. "

The reason for the lack of Plushenko and Sotnikova in the list of participants in the Grand Prix, according to Kogan, is that the skaters are preparing for their own plan. "Grand Prix - commercial series, athletes can use it, but can not use," - said General Director FFKKR.

In hindsight, it probably wasn't a good idea for her to open the page just before the GP assignments. I'm sure she had good intentions though. :) Did anyone post all the Qs that she did answer? They did that in the press for Julia's page before she closed it.

I guess it makes sense for Plushy and Sotnikova to be TBAs, that way if they don't end up ready, they won't have to withdraw, and won't be penalized. That means they can take on opportunities for shows or whatever during that time without being subject to penalty from the ISU,

Blame Proklova, she convinced Adelina to open that page

No the question weren't posted anywhere.

I am dissapointed Sotnikova only wants to compete in Russia for now. At some point she will need to compete outide of Russia again if she is serious to continue. Maybe she is still wavering on returning and hedging her bets? I dont know. It sounds like no injury at all is involved this time.

I dont know what the pressure is. She wont be the favorite for anything after a year and half off, so she should be excited to compete outside of Russia again. Nothing to lose and she can see where she is at.

Isn't this at least partly due to the criteria for assignment of GP spots? Since she didn't compete internationally all last season, she does not have a qualifying score yet. Silly as it sounds for a recent OGM, she does not meet the criteria for the come-back skater provisions, nor does she automatically qualify for 2 GP assignments. So, IMO it makes a lot of sense to do a senior B to get her qual score and take the TBD spot at Rostelcom. Besides, with one one GP event, she won't have to worry about the GP Final and can focus on getting ready for Nationals.

Well, she doesn't need a qual score to take the TBD spot at Rostelecom. She can just skate at Rostelecom, get her qual score and go to Nationals. Or she can just do her senior B skip Rostelecom and go to Nationals.

Her schedule according to her coach will possibly be:

Open test skates Sept. 12th
Mordovian Ornament (Saransk) Oct. 15th
Rostelecom (Moscow) Nov. 20th
Russian Cup V (Moscow) Dec 2nd

She could have been assigned to a host spot at RC without a minimum score. She doesn't qualify as a return skate, because her 9th at Worlds was three seasons ago......
It's possible they did for the purposes of GP selection, but Sotnikova wasn't submitted for GP.

I received a PM questioning this, and I was wrong. (It's too late to edit to avoid misleading anyone) I was using the "split couple" seasons (2013-14 and 2014-15) instead of "return skater/couple Worlds (2013 and 2014). Sotnikova would have qualified as a "return skater" based on her 9th at 2013 Worlds.

This is extrapolated from prior years' announcements, since this season's hasn't yet been published.

To recap, she could have qualified as a return skater from her 9th at 2013 Worlds, and she would not need a GP minimum score to compete at 2015-16 GP. It's a one-time option. No spots are guaranteed, but she could have gotten up to two if she used the option.

She could have chosen not to use the option, saving it for the future, because she didn't want to be assigned to two and risk earning a spot at GPF, and/or because she'd prefer to skate in shows this fall, as examples.

She can be assigned to Rostelecom Cup without using the "return" option. She would not need a minimum score as a host pick.

She needs to earn the minimum scores for 2016 ISU championships, which she can at any Senior B/Challenger Series event in addition to GP, if she's planning to compete at championships.

Why wouldnt she want the GP Final? That is an event she should want to try and get into if she can, and reestablish her reputation again. If she could have done 2 events and there isnt an injury, I find it very confusing if she is really serious about continuing at all.

I guess I am just dissapointed. We will see what happens.

I was working from last year's announcement since this year's is not out yet.
http://www.isu.org/media/156242/gp-general-announcement-2014_15_final.pdf

To be automatically entitled to 2 spots, she would need to use the Come Back skater provision, but she does not qualify for that (needs top 6 place at Worlds within past 10 years and her best was 9th).

There is also a "return ranked skater" provision. A skater who did not compete last year is eligible for a GP assignment if he/she/they placed top 12 in either of the two Worlds before that (in this case, 2013 or 2014). The difference between these two provisions is that the return Ranked Skater is eligible but is not automatically entitled to a spot and needs to be invited.

So, yes, she is eligible for an assignment but a second one would depend on the GP ranking formula and an invitation from another GP host. For the rankings, they take her season's best score from when she last competed (224.59 from Sochi) and use that to slot her into season best rankings from last year. This would actually rank her #1, as the top combined score from last season is 210.40.

I still think just doing Rostelecom would not be a bad plan, as she could do that without even doing a Senior B (though she still she may want to get the qual score out of the way before Rostelecom in case of an SP disaster). A schedule with just Rostelecom, Nationals and Europeans would leave her pretty fresh for Worlds.

She may want to ease her way back into the season after not competing and getting her ankle back in shape.

She's Olympic champion, three seasons away from the next Olympics. I don't see a reason for her to rush into anything.

That's what I was thinking. She is in a position to pick and choose and needn't feel driven to chase after everything.

Comeback skates aren't guaranteed spots: they are given high priority.

Every eligible and Ladies skater in the Top 24 SB got two, as did all but one of the Top 24 WS who weren't Top 24 SB. Even if she weren't Olympic Champion, odds are she would have gotten two.

Would love to know which dance is your favorite? And which style would you like to see her perform on ice? ...

My favorites: Contemporary, Samba, Waltz, Argentine Tango, Freestyle, and Paso Doble.

Of course she was also very good in the FoxTrot, Cha Cha, and Jive.

Excellent partner in Gleb Savchenko! They really look good together, but I know they think of each other as brother and sister as they kept saying.

This appears to be a very good experience for Adelina. I think overall it has probably helped her find out more about herself, plus she's grown up more, and with learning a different way to move on a dance floor that surely has helped her smooth out her rough edges and refine her overall on-ice style. I loved her White Angel/ Dark Angel photos, and other pictures. She's quite beautiful.

Hopefully, Adelina will have better costumes and music selection too when she comes back to skating. The production values and costuming were quite good on the Russian DTWTS, so maybe it will rub off on Adelina and her coaching team. ;) She was so good with the Samba, Argentine Tango, and the Paso Doble, maybe she will come back with something Latin for one of her new skating programs, and perhaps something traditionally classical, or modern/ edgy/ contemporary for the second program. We shall see. Whatever happens, I hope she will not be boring or lesser than she was formerly. It will be important to see growth from her as a returning Olympic champion.

Ah, that is going to be a curious thing should Adelina desire to try for another Olympics (in Korea). Probably her hopes are on achieving a World gold, and then retiring.
