Adelina Sotnikova uber thread

I saw this on twitter: about Adelina's great-grandfather in honor of Victory Day http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_Day_(9_May)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq_tX9ZSy5U This is a translation of the video description:
"My great-grandfather, Alexander Kochetov - Hero of the Soviet Union, fighter pilot. When he went to war for the first time, at 22, just after 3 months he already brought the first plane and in 3 days - the second plane. In our family, there is one thing of which we are very proud. This star is the great-grandfather, the Star of the Hero of the Soviet Union. It was his greatest reward. By the end of the war grandfather flew a plane its name. And the stories, he was fearless in the sky. And in his honor named streets in cities. I am very grateful to my great-grandfather. I thank him for my life! For the fact that I live now! For me it is, of course, Hero. And they always will! "

Thank you for the links to all the pics DobrinFan! I especially love the photo session - all of those gowns that Adelina wore are exquisite! :swoon:

Hey guys, as you know Adelina birthday is coming up July 1st. Her VK/twitter fanbase would like for all us to participate in putting a video together that will be presented to her as a gift. They would love for her overseas fans to participate as well and will provide translation from English to Russian. If you would like to have a special part in the video, see the message below:

In the last post in the group, we urge fans to record a video in which they congratulate Adelina on her birthday and remember what they love about her. We will be very glad if you can also record videos in English. We will make subtitles and be sure to insert them in the general video greeting for Adelina! You can send the video here [email protected] Deadline is June 25!

Wow! Fabulous pics (again) DobrinFan! Thank you! The last two are especially wild and stunning - you do have to do a double take to make sure that it's Adelina!

Darn. That bums me out. :( I hope then that she competes in other events even if they're not the GP.

I'm not going to hold my breath. She has only competed in 2 Senior Bs in her entire career so if she does compete it will only be at 1 B competition plus Rostelecom and that's a maybe :( I think it's more likely she will do the Russian Cup events than a Senior B:slinkaway They could have so put Sima on the Senior GP. So now I only have Radionova :(:(:( Bummer indeed.

They couldn't have put Serafima on senior level. Have you noticed that out of 18 possible spots Russia currently has only 14? In comparison with Japan who has 15 and USA who has also 15. And yet it was Russia who had the best results at worlds and 4 out of six spots at the GPF last year. This spot allocation is so much politicking that I feel sick of it. I assume that Russia wanted to give Adelina a chance to get back, so that's why the unallocated GP host spot. The only way Serafima could be senior was if they decided to retire Leonova and Artemeva.

That's not true but okay.

What is not true, the number of spots? Count them.

Yes, I can count just fine. Russia could put a total of 9 girls on the senior GP. They only put 7. Sotnikova would make 8 if she goes to Rostelecom. That leaves 4 more spots that could have been allocated to the Russians, since Adelina is guaranteed none. Even if she did get 2 spots, there would still be 3 open spots possible. Sima only needed 2, 1 which was guaranteed. There is nothing wrong with my math skills.

That leaves 3 more spots only if France, Canada, USA and China decide to pick a lady from Russia. They don't have to. Those 18 spots is the maximum that can be allocated, but no one really guarantees it, and the countries are free to pick whoever they want to (from that group of 5). So even if Serafima was in seniors, it could happen that she would get one spot (based on her ranking) and then she couldn't get another one, which would not be very helpful for her. And it could also happen that by Serafima having that one spot which she was guaranteed, someone else from Russian ladies wouldn't get two, if France, Canada, USA and China decided that two Russian ladies is enough at their GP. I am not going to claim that there is a conspiracy, but the bottom line is that they are trying to pick the way that they increase chances for their own skaters. I don't blame them, but it still doesn't make the selection fair. If there was a way each Federation would know ahead how many spots they will actually receive, it would be easier to distribute the spots among their skaters. And the number should be dependent on how well the skaters have done the previous season, not depending whom the countries want to invite.
