Actor Anton Yelchin was killed in freak accident

Would the manufacturer ensure that every single person who had bought the recalled vehicles was alerted the recall by phone or email? People don't generally look at recall lists as a routine practice.
I just went through a recall with my car and this is what happened:

(1) I got a paper notice in the mail that there was a problem but no remedy yet.
(2) Eventually I got another notice of the remedy and a request to bring the car in to fix it
(3) Then I got a voice mail from the dealer telling me I was sent the paper notice and to bring the car in
(4) Somewhere in there I also got an email and a second voice mail from the dealer.

(1) and (2) were from the manufacturer and are required by law. (3) and (4) were from the dealer where I often have my car serviced. Not required by law and I don't know if Fiat Jeep goes to that level of effort (I have a Toyota) or if it's up to the individual dealers if they want to follow up or not.

Btw, in spite of all the notices, it took FOREVER for me to get the car into the shop. It just wasn't convenient and it wasn't an urgent problem.

Turns out my car has a recall for the Takata airbags (like a million other cars) and it's almost impossible to get a fix for it right now, because dealers are inundated.

This is why it's important to do it right the first time. I guess I'll just have to try not to crash my car in the meantime....

I thought that was what the recall was about. That he thought he had put the jeep in park, but it was actually in neutral. (What reasons are there for someone to put a vehicle into neutral for?)
You have to have the car in neutral at a car wash, or if it needs to be towed.
The recall for this particular feature only went out in April of this year. IIUC.

Jeep went to the paddle shifter in the 2015 model.

According to reports he died within a minute of impact - his chest and head suffered trauma. At least it was quick.

Reports also say that he had zero history of drug abuse, did not drink and was not a user of marijuana. No alcohol or drugs were found at the scene. The toxicology report will take the standard weeks to complete, but it is expected to find his system completely clean.

No matter that any kind of settlement will not fix the situation for those who lost a loved one, I can't see Jeep/Chrysler getting away without having to pay out, as all signs are pointing to the default being a main contributing factor to this horrific death.

A security camera was pointed at the gate, and officials were going to be trying to get/review the footage. I'm extremely worried that someone like the vultures at TMZ will pay someone connected to officials enough money to get them to leak a copy of the video. Nobody (or their loved ones) deserves to have that happen.

I keep thinking of his poor parents who are now alone in their old age and will never have any grandchildren. :(
I know. It's always hard to lose a child, no matter how many other children you may have, but I imagine there's extra suffering when one moment you're parents and then you're not parents anymore. :wuzrobbed I hope the skating community is pulling together for them. They taught so many. I, for one, will never forget Viktor's light-hearted way of approaching new and challenging things.

I hope it was quick, if there's anything to hope for. I heard "asphyxiation" and I immediately assumed the worst - it can take minutes.

Given that the recall process was underway, I wasn't sure if there was much they could do legally. Jeep/Chrysler will definitely experience decreased sales, if anything, and it's called attention to this kind of design flaw, that I feel has increased lately due to the decoupling of physical artifacts and technology.

Ughhhh I hope TMZ doesn't get a hold of it.
