I just went through a recall with my car and this is what happened:Would the manufacturer ensure that every single person who had bought the recalled vehicles was alerted the recall by phone or email? People don't generally look at recall lists as a routine practice.
(1) I got a paper notice in the mail that there was a problem but no remedy yet.
(2) Eventually I got another notice of the remedy and a request to bring the car in to fix it
(3) Then I got a voice mail from the dealer telling me I was sent the paper notice and to bring the car in
(4) Somewhere in there I also got an email and a second voice mail from the dealer.
(1) and (2) were from the manufacturer and are required by law. (3) and (4) were from the dealer where I often have my car serviced. Not required by law and I don't know if Fiat Jeep goes to that level of effort (I have a Toyota) or if it's up to the individual dealers if they want to follow up or not.
Btw, in spite of all the notices, it took FOREVER for me to get the car into the shop. It just wasn't convenient and it wasn't an urgent problem.
