2025 Skate America Pairs Free - Slay Something (I'm Giving Up On You)

L/E are just not consistent. They either have a great program or just fall apart. Seen it too many times with them. They are likeable but just not dependable to deliver.

The Canadians could have skated perfectly and I think my reaction would have been the same. Of all the music choices this season, including dance, this is the one I question the most. Isn't Jason Brown also using a version of this song?

The base lift was a perfect example. The did a good job of coming down safely and actually getting points, but with different partners, it should be easier. Luke isn’t tall. Olivia isn’t either, but she’s tall for Luke now and it makes lifts scary or potentially dangerous. Skating is hard enough. It doesn’t have to be this hard. If you watch enough junior pairs, you see this all the time. But they stayed together because they had so much success. But going into seniors, it’s time.

I’ve loved this team so I hate wanting them to split.
Agreed. I hate the idea that she might become another of these pair girls made to feel that she needs to lose weight, because she's "endangering her partner" if she doesn't. There's nothing wrong with either of their bodies, but lack of height difference is a genuine issue, and really can be dangerous in pairs. Sure, we know of those few teams who succeeded despite it, but they'd probably be much safer and better off with other people. :(

Yay, Emily landing stuff. But not the throws.

Ghost The Musical is terrible and yet this programme is great and so is Gubanova’s.

Emily Chan/Spencer Akira Howe 🇺🇸
Rank after SP: 5
Coach: Alexei Letov
Music: Ghost the Musical

3S+2A+SEQ
3T<
Triple Twist 4
Throw 3Lo - hand down
Reverse Lasso Lift 4
Throw 3F - fall
Back Outside Death Spiral 2
Pair Combo Spin 4
Axel Lasso Lift 4 - exit was a bit crashy
Choreo Sequence

Hand-to-Hip Lift 4

I think that was their best free skate in quite some time. That they hit the side-by-side jumps, and then missed a throw, and almost came down on lift was unfortunate. Still something gained, and something to build on from this competition.

-1.00 = Falls
118.51 = 2nd Place
180.02 = 2nd Place

And another team I want to love but they simply aren't consistent either. Started out good but oh well...

Chan/Howe's single skater elements--jumps--are solid. The pair elements not so much. But, he didn't drop her on her head so it's a win.

ChanHowe - I had a dream this morning that she landed their opening jump seq... SBS 3s+2a - YES!!!!! My dream came true! SBS 3t - YES!!!!!! 3tw - beautiful; throw 3lo - hand down; first lift - gorgeous; throw 3f - dammit, down she goes; BODS - fine; combo spin - nice but slow; second lift - they are flying; choreo seq - good; last lift - so nice.

So, I woke up from my dream after the SBS jumps and had a bad feeling that the throws in my dream weren't okay, and I'm sad my dream/post-dream impressions were that accurate.

I really hope they can put it all together at Nats.

That next to last lift for Chan/Howe was terrifying. His feet were so unstable.

And Emily... sigh. Lands the sbs then a hand down and a fall on the throws. 🙃
