We are live for event 4 of Day 2.

After awarding the first two Junior medals, we have the first medal event in the senior category. According to the schedule, the actual victory ceremony will be held after the Sr Women Short Program.

Well, I'm here.

Warm up now.

ETA: Thanks victorskid.

TV Asahi showing Miura/Kihara doing a lift backstage.

I join the choir of people who demand to have a the cool Japanese drummers for every competition, probably with local instruments instead. At least until they bring bagpipes for Sheffield.

Btw, what do they say before the competition? I hear "ice, lice, action", which sounds more like a shampoo commercial.

Awake and present for the senior events today! Nice to see the arena is fuller today than it was yesterday. Doesn't look fully sold out yet, but much better than Day 1.

Don't ask me. I do know that they do a countdown before the warmup. I'm pretty sure they don't say "lice" though.

1 Deanna STELLATO-DUDEK / Maxime DESCHAMPS CAN 6 71.07

3 twist
3tl and a 2ax both messy
Lift
3sal He doubled it (I think?) Entry was messy too.
Cautious and slow
3 throw held on.
Throw 3sal fall

No spark.

SDDes - 3tw - alright - seemed slow on the entrance; SBS 3t+2a+A - rough landings; first lift - okay; SBS 3s - he doubled; FODS - ugly as ever; combo spin - fine; throw 3lo - two-footed landing; choreo seq - whatever; throw 3s - fall; second lift - fine; last lift - also okay.

That was... Yeah, Ted's got it right... It was a struggle.

Deanna Stellato-Dudek/Maxime Deschamps 🇨🇦
Rank after SP: 6
Coach: Josee Picard, Shawn Winter, Stephane Yvars
Music: Poeta en el Mar, Amor Dulce Muerte

Triple Twist 4
3T+2A+A*+SEQ - messy landings
Reverse Lasso Lift 4
2S - Deanna stepped out, Max doubled
Forward Outside Death Spiral 3
Pair Combo Spin 4

Throw 3Lo - touch down of the free leg
Choreo Sequence
Throw 3S - fall
Axel Lasso Lift 4
Hand-to-Hip Lift 4

Things didn't work well today - too many errors piling up to really sell the program.

-1.00 = Falls
123.29 = 1st Place
194.36 = 1st Place

SD/DS are very quickly losing my attention.

Excellent lifts, best or second best in the competition. The program is kind of good, but the slow part reaaaaally drags. They use about 70% of the length of the rink....

Idk, I liked them a lot in the SP, kind of lost it for the LP. Also, their jumps are on the different tectonic plates

You'd think the cameramen would learn that camera in the corner where they jump isn't going to fit any pair in the screen completely except MAYBE the Georgians and they would switch views. SOS Japanese team, we might not see either one in view.

2 Minerva Fabienne HASE / Nikita VOLODIN GER 5 71.68
3 tl 2ax 2ax nice landing
3sal in synch :)
Throw 3loop
Oh, much much better than the Canadians.
Throw 3sal Yes!
Nice speed and flow.
Much better than the SP.

She's nodding with satisfaction. :)

Happy GPF day two for those who celebrate. Bad day for SD/D. Awesome day for Hase/Volodin. Also 35 notifications when I logged in! I must have posted a lot on GPF day one! ;)

MiNiki - 3tw - effortless; SBS 3t+2a+2a - beautiful; SBS 3s - great; throw 3lo - gorgeous; first lift - nice; BODS - fine; combo spin - nice; throw 3s - solid; second lift - nice; choreo seq - done; last lift - good.

All of it is very nice, but it is just so generic.

Very careful performance, but I can understand that after the unexpected jump pop yesterday.

I love this team.

Minerva Fabienne Hase/Nikita Volodin 🇩🇪

Coach: D. Savin, K. Schubert, S. Brandado, R. Rex
Music: Memoryhouse by Max Richter

Triple Twist 4

3S
Throw 3Lo
Reverse Lasso Lift 4
Back Outside Death Spiral 3
Pair Combo Spin 4

Choreo Sequence

Hand-to-Hip Lift 4

That's the performance they've been searching for all season.

149.57 = 1st Place
221.25 = 1st Place

3 Maria PAVLOVA / Alexei SVIATCHENKO HUN 4 72.84

3 twist
3tl 2ax 2ax good flow
Hand down on Throw 3lutz
3sal she a bit wobbly
Throw 3loop
Sometimes feel like he's dragging her around....

The program doesn't have the ooomph factor to me. They skated well. Looked tired in the end.

I really like this tram so much. They have improved their connection and their skating to the music so much in the last 2 seasons. They used to never miss when they first got together and I know I posted probably 5 times that they were going to jump right up into the top tier.. didn't happen but now it absolutely should.

Better skaters than SD/D at this point, no contest.

Pavlova/Sviatchenko are the Petrova/Tikhonov of this cycle. Nice, clean, reliable. Also boring as hell.

Given that they skated roughly the same thing as Minerva/Nikita, the comparison is very obvious. P/S are slower, use less ice, the posture and lines are worse.

Lovely throws, though.

PavSvia - 3tw - good; SBS 3t+2a+2a - gorgeous; throw 3lz - pitched forward on the landing; SBS 3s - solid; first lift - good; second lift - alright; BODS - fine; throw 3lo - good; last lift - nice; choreo seq - fine; combo spin - why end on an element that has no speed & just kills the program energy?

All in all this was solid, though workmanlike.
