2025 Cup of China Rhythm Dance PBP - Rhythm is a Danger

 Which would be C/B. If you're talking about Z/K, they were 2nd. And yes, i am happy for them that they had such a good showing today.

Yes, C/B are never perfect in Oct. Or Nov. And neither are Gil/P. Skaters who are contending for medals at the Olys know how to pace themselves.
Sorry yes I didn’t mean C/B I meant Z/K being pleasantly surprised.. yes agreed I do recall they typically have a slow start, not that it matters to the judges they just mail it in anyway with the top teams unless obvious errors

C/B - LOVE THIS PROGRAM. And she looks amazing with that hair and dress. Happy to see them in first with a pretty decent lead.

Z/K - love them. This program looks so comfy for them.

L/B - looked a little unsteady out there - this program really doesn't work for me which is a surprise because their clubby exhibition program a while back was so good.

D/M - I don't really follow dance element levels but in other aspects I would have had them above L/B.

L/Q - love them and love this program - wish they were a little deeper into the medal hunt cuz that would be an exciting upset I can really get behind.

One last thing about Madison today - I like her RD dress and look - especially her hair is giving very '90s diva. The choker was a nice touch as that was a staple of '90s accessories. The entire ensemble felt very au courant for a '90s RD - certainly the closest approximation of the '90s aesthetic than anything any other woman was wearing today.

That’s interesting to know because I think I commented that these black costumes were basic but if they improvise then really good lol
Emilea got hers (the top( out of her closet..Her shorts were $7.00. Vadym used old pants and bought a shirt from Zara. Emilea ripped her tights at the am practice and Alysa gave her a pair.

Bla bla I'm so mean to C/B, I must hate them...I've heard it all.

But those twizzles got mostly +4. For an element that is DONE IN PLACE. It is not explainable. By anybody. Enough is enough. Lift exit comes out visibly clunky and still some +4. This is not reality-based scoring at all.
Ha ha. Well, if I was on the panel, I’d place them below the French team. The second French team D/LM who had more speed, extension, and edge quality. Oh well. I do expect C/B to skate much better later in the season (but I don’t expect any improvement on the twizzles :P).

ETA: I know it’s not the done thing in dance, but they really could evaluate what happens at this competition. If no-name Nakai can beat Sakamoto, then it should be okay for a favorite to lose in dance.

I have no desire to strong defend Chock and Bates, but I don't think their scoring is any more inflated than anyone else's.
What I want is consistency. If the ISU in a training says that twizzles have to be 'this' slow to be considered a negative feature and C/B's are faster than that and the different panels consistently mark them and any other team that fast as if their speed isn't a negative feature, I'm okay with that. The first part -- panels consistently seem to be 'okay' with their speed-- is there. I'm not so sure about the second.

One thing I hate, hate, hate, is when the same team, skating about the same, is marked wildly differently from comp to comp. Unfortunately, this does happen at least sometimes. I see that as a problem to be fixed. Changing the criteria for what makes a feature a negative one when multiple panels are applying the criteria consistently is not.

I don't understand some of the music choices this year if Lenny Kravitz is considered an upbeat dance party or whatever the hell other teams who have had to change their music were told.
Lenny Kravitz is played at dance parties. Or at least he was in the 90s. ;)

As a Gen X-er who went to high school and college in the 90s, nobody is capturing the mood. I now know what it must feel like for an Argentinian to watch Tango themes. This move away from traditional ballroom rhythms is horrific. I feel like I am watching high school talent show lip sync skits.

Also- Why isn't anyone doing a Siamese Dream program? It would kill.

I'm not. In this case, speed isn't just a continuum: it's the exact border between being allowed to get GOE above a certain point or not. The rules aren't saying that you can have a trade-off between speed and intricacy: they're saying below a certain speed, all of that intricacy cannot score above a ceiling.

Of course, you can dance to anything, especially when you are high and want to fly away ;)
My post was really more about if that music edit was fine ( and you know Rettstatt monitored and advised the US teams ) why was there so much confusion for the choices of others. But at least we now have a bit of variety at the top with Lenny, Madonna, RuPaul, Spice Girls and I guess Backstreet Boys that when it comes to the main competitions it won't all be the same. I still wish the message and rules were clearer to everyone competing as I feel we possibly missed out on some good 90's music. 🤷‍♀️

Madi had those bandages on her left shoulder. Wonder if she has an injury or just a strain.

well i watched the rd and what a wild ride that was lol i give up trying to make sense of this season at this point

It makes me sad to see the RD theme in an Olympic year be so bad. I mean, I liked 90s music but where some of these teams are getting their music makes me scratch my head. I liked the Koreans and I loved Z/K. The rest I wouldn't bother to watch again. After seeing FB/C in France last week, C/B have a problem. Like they are nowhere near as good as them. And F/G could skate their program twice through before C/B finished. C/B are great people but dang, just get out before the judges push you out.

Having now watched the RDs from CoC, I'm not sure what anyone was expecting. Most of the dances at GPdF were a bit of a sloppy mess, and the same held true here.

I actually enjoyed more of the music this week than last :shuffle: and last place team using "Rhythm of the Night" and "It Feels So Good" took me back to 90s nightclubs for sure (Sonique's "Touch the Sky" would have been a great choice for a team as well), even if their technique wasn't great.

I see potential in Green/Parson's dance if Michael could keep his butt off the ice. Her dress is more 60s than 90s though.

Smart/Dieck were such a mess that I was shocked. Her dominatrix outfit would have worked better for Madonna, or a more sexy George Michael tune than "Freedom."

Loved the freedom and controlled abandon in Loicia and Theo's RD, it actually was my favorite of the day.

Lopareva/Brissaud's RD suffers from what "Project Runway"'s Tim Gunn would frankly say "Too much whickety whack! EDIT!" It's a frantic mess and the costumes are hideous. It kills me to say that, as I really like them, but...

Zingas/Kolesnik skated extremely well. She is improving, even though still not at his level, but are making a push for that 3rd Olympic slot.

Madison and Evan looked like they often look early in the season, all over the place. Neither the mix nor the costumes bothered me. Yes there was a very bad slip on a non-element, but their spacing, musical timing and ability to sell a program still came through. And again they stepped outside of the box to do a program style very different from what they've done before.

Safe to say, they'll never please the purists, but they also aren't the worst team ever like they'd have you believe. 😉

I like Green/Parson's outfit--it's exactly like the music video and as someone who spent all her formative years in the 90s, I got it instantly. The MTV vibes were vibing. BUT, if you were not ages 10-20 through the 90s, I can see how it would be confusing. I can see international judges not understanding the reference and while they do this retro style well, it's too close to what they did last year.

I for the most part like the rhythm dance--it's one big nostalgia trip for me, and I think the dancers are doing the best they can with the beat requirement, which I feel is the real culprit, not the theme itself. I think it's going to make a lot of the audience say why does this sound so...off?

Once again, D/LM deserve better than the crap programs they are given. He is so good, and her ponytail is so fierce.

Z/K, MUH TEAM IN SECOND. I doubt they'll stay that way in the FD, but fingers crossed. I think we'll see a lot of movement inse the FD (I mean, most of y'all have already seen it, but shhhhh, let me pretend)

Love Smart. She is a stahhhhh.

Hot Take on LopBris:
They are still my faves. And I think if they had dressed in blue, half of FSU would have said BUT IT'S TOO LITERAL. I like the shiny red 'fits with her shiny red hair. I like the idea of their RD.

Flaming Take on LopBris and their Scoring:
BUT, the light has gone out since the announcement of G/FB. I...kinda agree with their placements both here and at Worlds. Yes, it sucks that a team of their calibre finished in 8th but there was not a single team above them who deserved to be below them (except the Brits, but that was expected)--they have just not been as good since then. The French Fed doesn't have to justify their dumpage--L/B are doing it for them. I hope they go to their next GP and skate LIGHTS OUT.
