I'm fully aware this is on me for forgetting to look at their music but I was not expecting the transition from over dramatic Destiny's Child cover to Karen O (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs but this is a soundtrack song and she does those mostly solo). They could have just done a bunch of Karen O soundtrack songs and it probably would have been more interesting musically.

The over dramatic Survivor cover is just too overused in skating at this point to be compelling.

Xiao/He - Surely this song (Survivor) is close to being a skating warhorse? I don't mind it but it's been used a lot.

Hands on the boards: Minus 3 from me.

They did well. He seems exhausted at the end.

Xiao/He - he's dressed like an extra from third-class steerage on Titanic and she's completely mismatched with a mint green & black dress that would not be out of place in an brothel in Essos.

I don't have many thoughts on the program - there was a clunky lift exit that I recall.

The skating was slow at times, and the choreography quite open. It looked like they were thinking through the program quite a bit, and then the issue on the combination lift didn't help that impression.

85.31 = 1st Place
143.92 = 1st Place

That was nice skating. Really rough, lacking line and finish, but Xiao & He have good partnering skills, and some nice basics.

The combination lift exit was so messy, and costly to get negative GOE for the two lifts when the rotational lift entry came out of nowhere and was great.

Nice dress transition, actually semi-decent composition so far but too rough. ETA- really liked that character step. He especially kept a sharp intensity the entire program.

Ren/Xing - Botched twizzles, damn!

Oooh! Costume change (for no reason at all...).

More board touching in front of the judges.

i know a lot of people hate tangos, but I like them, so I enjoyed this. Very slow, and they are very blank faced, but I thought they interpreted the music well, and apart from the twizzles they got through all the elements.

Junfei Ren with a rather unexpected costume change that I don't hate. His intensity in this tango is really admirable. Shame about the issue on the twizzles.

Also, how far ice dance has fallen that I'm not hating a tango FD for the second season in a row.

Very nice tango interpretation, but obviously a costly error on the twizzles today. I particularly enjoyed the choreo slide into the transition into the dance spin which worked really well both with the theme, and making the program interesting for the audience.

93.43 = 1st Place
153.17 = 1st Place

Well constructed program, nice choreo moments and the change dress during an element, I liked them yesterday and confirmed today. Shame the mistake in the twizzles from him.

Of course they don't have the politics by their side so they wont be competing and showing this beyond maybe 4CC next year

Ren & Xing have such great musicality. The first half of this really embodied the tango in their vibes, their faces, their body movement, the free legs. They skated really close, and were in hold alot.

Twizzles were messy, she checked after two rotations before they almost ran into each other. The program seemed out of ideas before the choreo step. The 2nd half really ran out of steam.

Erm, has someone given them a plush missile to hold in the Kiss and Cry???

ETA: Apparently yes, a DF-61 intercontinental ballistic missile was unveiled this year in China. Um, okay.
