In Pairs and Dance, the Top Six are seeded, and the Top 10 are guaranteed two. In Singles, the seeds are the same, but the Top 12 are guaranteed two.

Update from Jackie on O'Shea. Will need off season surgery. I wouldn't be surprised if E/M are sent to WTT.

I saw Danny O'Shea at the skating clinic earlier today, and he was walking around with a big boot on his right foot. He was still smiling and taking photos, so I managed to get a photo w/him too. I told him I hoped he got well soon, and he said thank you. Such a surprise to see him!

Question - K/O and E/M achieved the magical 13 in points. However, I read that it's 3 spots for 2026 Worlds, and the US must qualify the 3rd pair for the Olympics at the qualifier event in China. I realize that the Olympics are IOC territory and the Worlds are ISU, but how does that work? Is it possible to earn 3 spots outright for the Olympics?

Thanks (to anyone)

They would have had to have a third team qualify for the free skate to have 3 spots outright.

They were probably thinking that they were supposed to follow the ISU's notice for WTT, and K/O are the higher ranked team.
The way the WTT announcement reads, it implies but doesn't directly state, that the top-ranked team/skaters in the WS are supposed to go & that if they elect not to compete, the ISU can bypass the fed entirely & invite a the next fed on the list.

I don't know what the ISU would do, though if the USFS said "yeah, we're sending Alysa & Amber, who are both ranked behind Isabeau"... And I don't know what they'd do if Chan/Howe got the USA's pairs spot by virtue of their current WS over Efimova/Mitrofanov who are the US Champs & highest placing team at Worlds.

Sorry. I don't understand. Three teams at the previous Worlds would have to equal 13 together?
A country can't earn more spots outright than the number of teams they had in the FS/FD at worlds. To earn three spots outright they would have needed to have three teams at worlds this year and all three would have to make the FS. Because the US only had two entries at worlds there was never a chance of qualifying three outright. This is the best possible outcome for the US.

I think they’d do nothing. USFS sent Gracie Gold when she was junior national champ and clearly not among the highest U.S. skaters on the WS list. The ISU had no problem with it.

Thanks,

So for instance, we qualified 3 women for 2026 Olympics outright because we had 3 women at 2025 Worlds make the LP, then Alysa + Isabeau = 4? IOW, just 2 skaters need to equal 13. I just want to understand.

Well, Alysa & Isabeau were 1+4 = 5, but yes, you're correct. And we qualified 3 in ice dance with ChoBat 1st + CarPon 5th = 6 and GreenP 9th overall. Just the men to go and we have a chance to either qualify 3 or 2 depending on the outcome.

The rationale is you can’t earn more Olympic spots at Worlds than you’ve proven you need. If you have two teams at Worlds who place high enough for 3 spots for next year, then you have the opportunity to send your third team (not the two who were at worlds) to the Olympic Qualifying Event to try to earn that additional spot. Same for countries with one entry in the Worlds FS that earned two spots. They have to send their second team to the OQE to earn it.

I meant to ask this earlier but forgot with all of the skating excitement over the last few weeks.

Does anyone know why Kam & O'Shea were not at Legacy on Ice? I was thinking it might be because of Danny's injury but probably not if it only happened a week ago.

No idea. I wondered the same thing.
