2023 U.S. Nationals in San Jose

How much are the tickets?
I saw $800 to sit near the ice and $575 to be farther up. I think you can get even cheaper seats as it looked like the second level was also for sale. But I didn't try it. That's with the Gala, btw.

Hmm, I'm thinking my tentative decision to skip this US Nats might be a good one (we're finally going to Alaska this summer so I can't afford to drop money on anything else right now). Maybe things will improve with the ticket purchasing later this year when I'm not in the middle of paying for and planning for a bucket list vacation trip, LOL :D
Off topic but we are headed to Alaska too, bucket list trips are not cheap.

Out of curiosity, I tried to select a single aisle seat for my SOI stop and was able to advance to the payment screen (I already have tix for me and my mom so did not fill in cc info). I was also able to pick one for the show at SAP. I wonder if the TM restriction is only when tix first go on sale. Either way, it's dumb.

Edited: I think I forgot to renew 😭

Yes I am. At least I used to get emails before, none lately though.

I may have no choice but to volunteer 🤣
There will still be plenty of tickets when they open to the public on the 18th. But if you renew now, Brent will send you the email we all got. (He did that for me for SkAm once.)

The Sharks pre-sale started today so I got my seat. Having learned that I wouldn't be able to get an aisle seat, I just selected a seat third from the aisle and had no problem. Given my new retirement budget and sadly assuming I had already attended my last live skating event, it was a very pleasant surprise to get my larger than expected federal tax refund and realize I would be able to afford Nationals, after all, as long as I could stay at a budget hotel within walking distance, which I am. Not platinum level seats, of course, but I selected a $525 seat and I'm happy with it. :D

Edited to add that I did try and select an aisle seat to start just in case I could, but I couldn't. :p

Glad you got your ticket. Actually, the seat third from the aisle should not be too bad. Better than being way over in the middle of the row. Hope you have a great time and can contribute some in person snark to FSU :D

Anyone interested in booking the Arena Hotel should check the website. Looks like the rates are now posted for January 2023.

But also check the most recent Yelp reviews. Seems like it went downhill significantly during the past two years. I was considering it this time to save some $$$ since I knew people who stayed there in 2012 and 2018 without any isuues, but yikes to the recent reviews.

It also appears they no longer offer the breakfast buffet. It wasn't a great one, but you could at least have something hot to eat before heading out to watch practices.

My friend stayed at the Arena Hotel for Nationals (can’t remember which year) and said it was no frills but fine. We are booked to stay there in January simply because of the convenience to the arena. Hope it turn out ok.

The Arena Hotel barely made it through the pandemic - this from a conversation with them in January when we made our reservations. Because they had such a hard time, they have had to cut back on some services, like breakfast. I have seen bad reviews of the Arena Hotel on Yelp before, but in the 3 times we have stayed there, things have been just fine. It isn't fancy. I don't care about those kinds of amenities. It's very close. There's a Whole Foods almost next door. No complaints about rude staff from us. I am grateful they made it through and are still in business.

With everyone traveling so much this summer, I am in hopes that they will be able to be back on their feet and fix things that had to slide during the tough times.

Heads-up for those traveling via Southwest: they have opened up their reservations through early March.

I had a reservation at the Arena for 2021 (made in January 2020....back in simpler times...) but this time around, I have a reservation at the Westin, which in March was the cheapest option of the larger hotels. A recent check revealed the price has gone up almost $200/night since I booked. I wonder if there's something else happening in San Jose that week....I thought the days of Nats being a big enough event to price-gouge were over.

Does anyone have any experience with parking near the SAP Center? Any recommended garages or lots? Most of the ones listed on the website seem to say $15-30, which is a pretty big difference for a weeklong event. Do these lots have in and out privileges?

Most of the lots around the arena will raise their prices when there is an event going on at the arena. (Not sure if Nationals will cause that since it's all week all day.) And they don't have in-and-out privileges.

I'm driving to the event each day and will probably park at the SAP center unless their prices are outrageous compared to the surrounding lots (SAP prices also vary). I don't think they have in-and-out privileges either normally, but IIRC in the early days of the event, they didn't charge at all. There aren't enough people going in and out to make it worth paying someone to sit there and collect the money, I guess. Of course, that was in the Before Times so who knows what will happen this time.

The reason I would park at the SAP center is (a) easy access to my car if I need it and (b) the car will be off the street so less likely to be broken into.

I try and stay at a hotel within easy walking distance that also has free parking, which is what I'm doing again this year.

When do they typically say what the host hotel is? I haven’t decided if I’m going yet (went last year and we have a few trips planned so not sure it’s in the budget). But if I do decide to go, I will most likely be going solo, thinking I would like to stay at the host hotel.

They haven’t been announcing it lately. We often get the information through word of mouth.

Usually for sporting events in SJ or Santa Clara it will be the Fairmont San Jose, but the Mariott and Hilton attached to the convention center have also been used. All the hotels in that area are very nice, but I prefer the Fairmont. Edit: Didn't realize the Fairmont closed and is now a Hilton. So the situation with that deal is unknown.

The Marriott was the official hotel in 2012 and 2018.

I remember wondering why it was the Marriott given Hilton sponsors USFS and SAP/Levi's having the Fairmont as their hotel for all other sporting events. The Fairmont is much better anyways, even if I do like the Marriott's glowing bar...

I don't believe Hilton has been a USFS sponsor for a few years. In 2012, when they were still a sponsor, there was a spectator rate offered there.

I purchased all session tickets over the weekend and the only delivery option listed was just "Will Call." Does anyone know if this is normal and how you go about obtaining these tickets-just pick them up when you show up the week of the event? I got the confirmation email but after dropping so much $$ I'd like to know the seats are for sure mine.

I called SAP Center who of course had no idea what I was talking about and told me to call when the ticket office is open (which isn't for another two weeks). I've never bought the all session tickets before (just individual session which were emailed to me immediately) so hoping a veteran of these tickets/events can can provide some insight! Thanks in advance! :)

The tickets will probably be electronic as many venues don’t do paper tickets anymore. They’ll show up in your account sometime before the event.

Wow I just looked at the Platinum level tickets. All event + spectacular =$1220. Then I looked at all event no spectacular =$700.

 a spectacular Platinum level ticket is $420?

Can someone verify I read that right?

I can't go anyway, we will be coming home from an international vacation that week.

The $1,220 tickets are platinum level - the $700 you are looking at is non-platinum level. The real difference between all event tickets that offer the spectacular is only about $100.
