2022 Skate Canada Challenge - Dec. 1-5 2021

Oops the screen kinda froze as Long went into her triple flip which she stepped out of. Then a double loop double toe. Yikes. Just gets the double axel. Still she emotes how much she loves skating. Sigh...it would be a shame if she didn't qualify for nationals. This isn't going to put her in a good position...

Medland Spence didn't manage the 3T 3T she's done a couple of times before but this was a good skate for her and should put her in a good position for qualifying after the short.

Wow Medland Spence behind Long. I expected a better score after what she scored at other competitions this year.

Wow Stellato and Deschamps had a great skate. They could make nationals very interesting if they skate well and possibly make the world team.
Hope so! I was scrolling through the video, hopping to find Stellato. ZAP! I could tell it was her by 2 seconds of her in a lift. She is beautifully distinctive. Wish them the best.

Great skate for Maya Isabelle. She has shown promise before at some of the Quebec events. Nice triple lutz double toe combo! She looks thrilled.

Mostly clean skate from Bashynska/Beaumont, except for him biffing his first twizzle (I think he lost hold of his blade), and they have a huge lead with a score of 165.72. Yu/Giang left to skate.

Not a good skate from Catherine Carle. Down on the second 3T and also on the lutz, rotations also questionable. Wow still 47.2. Scores are very close in the high 40s so lots of movement likely in the free.

I managed to catch Rose Théroux's skate in the junior women's free. She landed both lutzes but had a couple of falls. She needs to move up one spot to qualify for nationals, so we'll see. Being on the next gen team and also having international experience this year she was certainly a favourite to qualify.

Daleman's 3T 3T was huge but she had a little hand down but still +GOE on the tracker. Stepped out of the double axel. Here comes the lutz and...hard fall. Sigh...

Bit of a collapsed landing and hand down on the second 3T for Daleman. Stumbles out of the 2A. Down on the 3Z and I think under.

Hmmm…she seemed totally confident on the warmup. I think she was rattled by that mistake on the combo.

I'm watching some of junior women while waiting for senior to resume. Nice start from former next gen member Vienna Harwood but I don't know if she's doing any of the harder triples. Two nice triple sals and a triple toe and a deliberate double lutz.

Harwood takes the lead and she is the first skater guaranteed to qualify.

Ashley Sales from BC is skating now - is she related to Hayley Sales?

Whoever's in charge of the rink music is obsessed with "No Time to Die." Second time tonight I've heard it.

I have the senior women playing on my TV and junior on my laptop. Lauren Batka in jr did a very nice 3T 3T and a 3lutz, The only other triple she tried was the salchow. She fell randomly (footwork sequence?) but put up a nice TES.

I really liked Jennyfer Richer-Labelle's program. She did 3t2t and 3s, so not the hardest jumps, but she was really into her choreography and expressed the music well. The way she moved was natural, rather than looking like she was following someone's instructions.

Oops Pereira did a triple loe single toe but must have thought she didn't do the second jump because she did a triple flip double toe next...what happens if you do two combos in the short?

I was wondering the same thing.

I noticed that her 3f2t came up with -GOE, even though it looked well done, so maybe there's mandatory -GOE for doing an invalid element? I assume she also only gets credit for the 3f, and not the 2t part of the combo.

Best case scenario they invalidate the 2T and not the whole jumping pass. Not sure what the rule is.

This is making me think of years ago at a Canadians one of the guys did an extra triple axel by accident Lol. Anyone else remember this? Jean-Francois Hebert maybe?

Sigh I had high hopes for Tobin after she skated that really good short at one of the Ontario fall events. Step out of the triple toe but at least she got a combo in after the triple loop. I still think she deserved an international assignment...
