2022 Olympic FS Team Event delayed medal ceremony - updates

Are figure skating, equestrian, mens team and womens team ping pong, and gymnastics the only sports (winter or summer), that have a 'team' event, where scores accumulated by individual competitors (or in the case of figure skating, a pair team and dance team as well as singles skaters)...and those points or placements determine their final ranking and possible medal/podium placement? Can't think of another winter OLY sport aside from figure skating.
Shooting. Triathlon. Probably some others.

Wow the 7th has come up so fast i almost forgot this was going to actually happen. 8am PST?

I will be at work tomorrow (too bad my work from home days were Monday and Tuesday this week) but I'm gonna try to sneak a peak on my phone during the live ceremony. I will definitely catch up on all the excitement tomorrow once I get home! :cheer:

BTW-I think I heard somewhere that the athletes might be on The Today Show tomorrow AM as well so I am going to watch and see if it happens before I head off to work. :)

Alas, Shoma must be attending a death or, more happily, a wedding.

Per Japanese press:

"Shoma Uno will not attend due to schedule conflicts, as he will skate at the ice show "L'Apprenti Sorcier" (The Sorcerer's Apprentice), opening August 8-9 at the Palladium De Champéry, Switzerland."

Freestyle skiing (aerials), ski jumping, and Nordic combined are all judged sports that had team competitions at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Isn't that how team fencing is?

Pre-ceremony article from Christine Brennan with a couple of quotes from Nathan -

“My parents didn’t get to share the Beijing (men’s gold) medal with me so it’s cool to be able to have this alternative that now allows us to have a chance to have my family in attendance,” said Chen, who said his “whole family,” 10 in total, is with him in Paris.

“I’m really excited for the team, I’m excited to have this opportunity, I’m excited to share this with my family. For me, it’s just joy, glad that we get to have this opportunity. Given the situation, I’m happy that we’re able to have this opportunity just to share with our friends and family and of course the team. That’s really cool.”

So excited for all of these skaters - and Team Japan - finally getting their Olympic moment in just about 12 hours!

With all the celebrities that are in Paris, does no one have a private jet they could loan to Shoma so he could be there and get him to Switzerland in time for his show the next night? :p
Glad that someone said it. Good grief, if I were in Switzerland and could go next door to France to pick up a silver medal, I’d be there… Even the coach could be there. Even Top Cheerleader Marin Honda, if needed.

Get the medal. Move their arses back to Switzerland that evening.

No. Real. Excuse.

My husband will try to record off Peacock, USA, or whatever. ARD/ZDF aren’t showing this in Germany, as expected (Germany not included).

France is a big country. Driving or taking the train from Champery to Paris would take ~7 hours each way. It would probably have required him to come in yesterday and then travel back first thing tomorrow, missing final rehearsals and cutting it close to get back in time for the show.

Geneva to Paris round-trip fares, $47-55 round trip:

One hour and five minutes each way.

Geneva airport is 1-1/2 hours from Champery by car (3 hours by train since it has to travel in an arc), plus allow time for parking and security and you’re up to at least 3 hours and closer to 5 if choosing train. Then allow at least an hour to get from either Paris airport to the center plus time for security checks, etc. It’s a six to seven hour journey any way you slice it.
