Weir, who trained in Delaware before winning three national championships and skating at two Olympics, had to withdraw due to a scheduling conflict. Weir had skated in the event the previous two years.
Abbott said he was more than happy to take Weir's place. The ice show will be held Friday and Saturday night at the Skating Club of Wilmington. Each show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $10-$70, and are available at skatewilm.com.
"It turned out that I was available, and I'm excited to do anything where I can reach out to local kids and inspire them to get into skating," Abbott said in a phone interview. "That's how I started growing up in a small town in Colorado."
