2017 IAAF World Championships (Real) London

I have to say that this 'new schedule' of events/sessions does really works well! few morning sessions (mostly for heptathlon and decathlon) and most evening sessions with medal ceremonies taking part before or almost at the end of the session, very well paced to give air time coverage for the field events. It has been great, hopefully this could be a standard for now on, 10 days of world championships

Fab night of athletics in the stadium tonight. Pole vault and 800m were great!

I assume you were located right by the PV competition again. I know we didn't see much of it on the Beeb but Toni Minichiello was exceedingly informative of the technique etc. He has been like that for the field events he has covered and I would have loved to have heard more from him. I wish the Beeb had some online feeds like they did during the Olympics so I could have watched the individual events fully.

Kyle Langford has an awesome personality. I hope he can continue the momentum from his 4th placed finish in the 800m and use it as a springboard onto some major podiums in the next few years.

And now for a weird time trial for Isaac Makwala for him to make the 200m semis!!

ETA: And he made it - I would have been surprised if he didn't!!

Bosse is quite a character there - love how he commented on his hair coming into the home straight of the 800m :D!!!

WTF - Shaunae Miller-Uibo had that won but something happened in the last 20 metres of the 400m - not sure if it was a muscle pull or a severe cramp - but she just lost it. And a US lady won - but not the expected one

I wonder if the 200/400m double was too much for Miller-Uibo. I think it's a lot harder than a 100/200m double.

We'll see how van Niekerk does in the 200m.

Congrats to Phyllis! :cheer:

Karsten Warholm's 400 m hurdles gold is the first male Norwegian world championship gold on a running distance EVER! :cheer2: We're (sometimes) good at throwing and jumping, but running... We do have an Olympic gold, but that was in 1996, so it's about time! So happy now!

And Warholm comes from dechtalon, he's only been specializing in hurdles for 1,5 year or something... Wow!

Congrats to Norway for the gold, Karsten lead all the way and took the best of the conditions out there. Silver for Yasmani Copello and bronze for USA

Shaunae Miller-Uibo lost it in the last 20-30 metres, what a shame for her, I agree that maybe the 200/400 was too much for her. Allyson Felix struggled in the end and came third, surprise silver medal for the 19 year old girl from Qatar!!! what a talent in her for years to come.

China took the gold medal in the women's shot put, Anita Marton was 4th coming the final round and she threw a massive 19+ to take the silver medal for Hungary, second medal for the magyars in London! With this bumped out the jamaican girl of the podium. Olympic Champion Michelle Carter was third.

In the Men's Hammer Throw Qualification all the favourites qualified to the final BUT our hopes of having a finalist and medal contender dashed when Mexico's Diego del Real placed 26th!!

We had high hopes for him after a surprising FOURTH place at the Rio Olympics, I blame the conditions and the rain because normally he doesn't train with that weather but anyway, that was the same for everybody and he wasnt able to adjust

our OG gold medalist ( 2012 London) Krisztián Pars couldn't qualify.... he had some injuries this year. But we have a finalist the 20 y.o. Bence Halász..

Men's 1500m Heats and Olympic Champion Matthew Centrowitz is OUT! dead last on his heat with a 3:48 time that is two seconds faster than the time he posted when taking the gold in Rio :p with a slow 3:50 that many criticized

:wall: - Centrowitz. I can't even........

Meanwhile, this men's triple jump final is looking epic between Christian Taylor and Will Claye.

Tough year. No way around it.

Kori Carter from lane 9 taking the gold in the Women's 400m Hurdles, excellent race for her. Dalilah Muhammad, gold medal in Rio, silver medal and Jamaica took the bronze.

Jamaica is doing very modest not just in terms of medalist but of finalist, kind of the change of guard. No finalist in the Men's 200m since 2003. Few medals, they have just 4 iirc thus far.

Similar to what happened to Australia, France at the recent Swimming Worlds.
