2017-2018 Program Music and Choreographers

I find it very unlikely unless some huge disaster happens to P/C or V/M, as well as to Shibutanis and/or other teams. Do you honestly wish V/M or P/C and at least one other team to fall from a lift or during a step sequence/twizzles? Okay, I understand that it was partially a joke, but....

The people rooting for the Shibs to get gold/silver are doing to same, no? 2016 worlds was essentially countless people hoping for utter disaster to strike P&C.

Also, the Shibs barely won bronze this year (W&P should probably have won it), and they aren't at such a higher level than the rest of the teams battling for 3-8th place that it would take a major mistake for them to lose to teams like B&S and C&L. I don't know where that thinking comes from.

It's funny how people's memory of the same event differs. I don't remember it being "countless" people. I found a lot more people were celebrating P/C's win and found it to be a relief.

Fine, maybe it was the same few Shibs fans posting over and over again. Icenetwork had people putting the Shibs first in their predictions, and there were multiple articles/interviews how their unremarkable FD was somehow supposed to justify a world title over P&C, because... emotions or something?

The "relief" came because all season a narrative was being pushed that P&C were weak in the SD (lol), and the Shibs were superior and could hold onto a SD lead in the FD to win. The idea of the Shibs being so over marked that any tiny mistake from P&C would doom them was definitely something to be relieved and celebrate about not happening.

Nice to see you're gearing up for the new season to start. I'll be right there with ya yining to your yang.

Deniss Vasiljevs tweeted today "Looking forward to presenting my new free skate "Sway" at the #LombardiaTrophy next week!": https://twitter.com/DenissVasiljevs/status/905396856624177152
(@Seerek had posted earlier this summer in Deniss' cheer thread: "If Fantasy on Ice is any indication, the new short program for next season could be "Anyone to Love/Sway" - Michael Buble.")

Hey, people are already sharpening the knives for B&S and C&L. Me saying these teams are at a similar level is with their own strengths and weaknesses, and any of them could win bronze, is apparently the crazy thing though.

For what it's worth, I don't think that's crazy. I've been openly praising B/S since I finally got their Anna Karenina FD at 2016 Euros and think they're underrated in that people don't recognize their sound technique and ice coverage. I've also said I like C/L because they're one of the few teams to really dance to the beat of the music and they have real showsmanship. I do think the Shibs are much better than you give them credit for, but I respect your opinion since I find your posts throughout the past few seasons to be very informative to me regarding ice dance. I've learned a lot from you.

I was at 2016 Worlds, and the applause and standing O for P/C were just as loud as they were for the Shibs and C/B.

As for this year's Worlds, yes the Shibs did barely win bronze, likely the beneficiary of C/B's and H/D's twizzle disasters. B/S actually got 3rd in the FD - way overmarked IMO. I would say there are 6 teams with a legitimate shot at the OBM, and I don't think the Shibs have a huge advantage. Everyone will have to skate their best and it may come down to which team(s) can get L4 on their step sequences.

Yeah, I think all of the top teams left 2017 Worlds dissatisfied. P/C were able to get a monster world-record breaking score in the FD but didn't defend their title; V/M didn't win their third world title in the fashion that they envisioned; the Shibs left Worlds frustrated (especially Alex's face during the medal ceremony) and confused after their huge scores all season, especially after 2017 4CC where they were the only team outside of V/M and P/C to score 115+ in the FD all season (no other team came close to hitting 115 all season); Bob/Sol got buried after the SD preventing them from medaling; Chock/Bates and Hubbell/Donohue blew chances to make a statement and reset whatever real or perceived existing American hierarchy; Cappellini/Lanotte were wondering why they can't score better no matter what they do; Gilles/Poirier were probably frustrated that they couldn't carry the momentum from 2016 Skate Canada through to Worlds and Worlds was just a cap of a season where they probably expected more.

Although Weaver/Poje were fourt-tenths out of the bronze medal, I think they probably left Worlds the happiest out of the teams ranked 3rd or lower because they knew they were getting that momentum back and their move was paying off. Then, they finished the season with a victory at WTT.

How overmarked?

On a scale from 0 to the US judge's marks for the US dance teams?

You quoted me, but that wasn't my quote.

The score ranges from 3rd-6th in the FD at Worlds reminded me so much of how 2014 Worlds turned out. It looks pretty chaotic compared to what we're used to seeing in ice dance, historically anyway. This could be seen as a good thing as it can be anyone's game.

That was my quote. I find B/S's skating to be sloppy and I thought their FD last year was odd and disjointed and didn't think it deserved to be ranked that high- my issue is with PCS, not TES. But I'm only 1 person, and I'm sure others feel differently. But that's how I see it.

The "relief" came because all season a narrative was being pushed that P&C were weak in the SD (lol), and the Shibs were superior and could hold onto a SD lead in the FD to win.

Narratives in general are what I find most frustrating in ice dance. Especially those that are based in nothing yet repeated endlessly until the politikal winds shift again.

Okay, you are probably right about Shibutanis. Still, I think they and other teams, like Weaver/Poje and now even Hubbell/Donohue, would have to skate below their best level for both Bobrova/Soloviev and Cappellini/Lanotte to get on the podium at the Olympics (apart from a disaster happening to one of P/C or V/M). With decent programs, there is a chance for Bobrova/Soloviev, but Cappellini/Lanotte have not gotten on the Worlds podium for the last two seasons even with good programs and clean/good performances. I think they have absolutely reached their peak. Also, Shibutanis were a bit underscored at the last Worlds. Even with a slightly sub par performance in the FD, their scores were surprising compared to other competitions of the season.

I, for one, am not sharpening any knives for B/S and C/L. I have nothing against B/S, apart from not being ecstatic about some of their programs. But they have also had programs that I liked. As for C/L, I have always liked them and enjoyed their programs and performances, but I am just recognizing their weaknesses (namely, their not so great skating skills - especially Anna's).

I can see the actual choreography being exactly like this, but they definitely go for that costuming and make-up. For one thing, Guignard/Fabbri already did that look with their Schindler's List FD in 2016.
I hope in the choreo they stress "making it look like all the horrors are a Game" to their imaginary child. Some how i love the idea of turning horrible things that happen to you into a game.:cheer2:... and sometimes :bribe:

Anna and Luca are great, but their FD is gonna be basically the same one that they've been performing the past 5 seasons.

Oh my god thank God you said that.

First of all I'm Italian so I love them regardless. But someone above you said they r taking a creative risk. They are expressive Italians stating to a song about expressive Italians. In my opinion they are taking the least risk anybody. And I'm saying this and I love them. I'm fine with the music but this is not taking a risk this is staying in their comfort zone

I feel like they stated to the same music their whole senior career.

Anyway I'm at breakfast at my hotel Just checking out Posts

Just letting you and @MelDee know that @Aerobicidal was being entirely sarcastic with that post. I mean the line about Papadakis/Cizeron and Javier Fernandez choosing vastly different music every year was also a giveaway.

They could make it really original by having Anna play the little boy, short hair cut and all.
I didn't like Guignard/Fabbri FD not because of their skating but I don't think the Holocaust is a suitable theme for an ice skating program. Now this movie's atmosphere is a bit different as it does try to turn the tables on the horror of the situation by keeping the little boy unaware of anything happening.

@Aerobicidal was indeed being sarcastic. I love Anna & Luca, I used to like La Vita e Bella, now I'm fighting an inner battle with myself if I'm happy or not.

G/Fs FD was such bad taste. Fake blood on outfits and oh, we are suffering so much. They aren't the first and won't be the last to skate to Schindler's list but as someone wrote here back then: "I don't want to see another "Holocaust on ice" program ever again". Count me in!

There was fake blood on G&F? Do you have a picture where it's visible? I never noticed when watching on TV.

I was so sure it was blood and it really turned me off. When going back watching the program now, I see that I must have interpreted some of the stains and holes in the outfits with blood. Some look like blood, but looking closely I guess they're not. Sorry about that! Brain malfunction.
