#2 KAETLYN OSMOND : CANADA'S SWEETHEART

Kaetlyn Osmond, figure skater, wins gold in season debut
"Obviously I'm very happy with my performance today," said Osmond, of her third career international victory.

"I wasn't trying absolutely everything in my program today, I just wanted to focus on what I know I could do.

Extremely happy for her to take the gold at this competition. :cheer2: Great way to build her confidence for the rest of the season. Funny, I was never really worried about her doing well here. Her skating has improved so much, that I didn't doubt her ability to pull it off. I was a little disappointed that she didn't attempt the 3loop in the Free though. She's going to need it for Skate Canada, and I would have liked to see her do one cleanly in competition before then.

she did keep her 2014-15 music selections right?

Yes.

I wish she would try the loop in this relatively stress-free competition. Still, the jumps she landed were absolutely beautiful.

I think I read somewhere that she had a minor injury just prior to this, and that was why she didn't attempt it at this competition. And based on one of the after competition interviews, the loop is apparently one of her "best jumps" now, after having to relearn much of the jump technique post injury. I also saw a practice clip from Nebelhorn of her doing a very nice one with a running 3 entry, great pop and all. I hope we will finally see it at Skate Canada.

In the post event interview with Debbie Wilkes, she seemed to indicate she watered down the program after doubling the toe in the opening combo. She said something about playing it safe after that? Maybe the plan was always to substitute another sal for the loop if a pop had happened earlier? My sense with the loop is that at this stage she may be likely to double it under pressure, so maybe they didn't want to risk more pops?

I agree it would have been good to see her try it here, in a relatively low stakes event.

It was an unfortunate weekend for her. I hope she recovers quickly and that no permanent harm was done. Obviously she hurt herself worse than we thought. Did she actually skate in the Gala?

Yes she skated in the gala. I was surprised to see her. She did double jumps in her routine but landed a solid triple in the finale showcase. I didn't see any strapping either.

Hopefully she didn't injure herself again. She has everything going for her (speed, great choreography, strong jumps etc). I'm sure she'll come back stronger.

She did two nice double axels in the gala (one in the program and one in the finale). She certainly wasn't holding back with the speed in the program and wasn't skating like there was further injury. Who knows though...I worry psychologically what that long program might mean though. I don't see how there cannot be some fear in her that this will happen again. She just had no control over her jumps and I can imagine the next time she goes out there it will be tough to shake that from her mind.
But she seems like a very positive young lady so hopefully she will bounce back. Still was great to see her out there again. The first two jumping passes in the sp were:swoon:.

Given that it was her landing leg that was taped on Saturday, and what it was reported that CTV said about the number of treatments she had on hip/groin between the SP on Friday and the LP on Saturday, I'm not surprised there was no control on the landings in the free. Just thinking how my inner quads can hurt after a good strength-training session, I can only imagine how tender that was on Saturday when she was trying to land with some kneebend. My legs hurt for her...

I just watched her gala performance and wasn't surprised to see just doubles. She's got a month until NHK -- hopefully, she's well-healed by then!

I would assume with her fanpage posting a link to the article, she doesn't have a problem with the photo or the article. The same she did not have a problem with the picture on the Globe and Mail front page.

I finally watched the SP. It didnt air in USA.

OMG..again it is GORGGGGGGGGG

I just LOVE this program and her skating.

I wonder if that freak fall in the spin and loss of confidence in the axel didnt happen would she have been ahead of Ash?

Of all the programs Ive seen this is MY FAV of the year (although I havent seen mao's yet)...

Follow up article in the Edmonton journal accompanied by yet another unflattering crotch shot. From her home town newspaper no less...poor kid!

I'd call her facial expression unflattering, since Kaetlyn is otherwise so adorably cute. 'Crotch shots' are ubiquitous to the sport, just google for 'Julia Lipnitskaia' and 'bendy' to see what I mean. As for her performance, I am sorry for her. To be off the ice for a year due to injury, and to have such a wonderful comeback in Nebelhorn, only to be followed by this.

I don't think it is. She skated that number at the NHK gala and I believe the tweet about working with Jeff was after that?
