If they're within 30 points (20 points for women & pairs, 25 points for ice dance) then the FISG can take into account WS rankings, which breaks in Rizzo's favor - he's 9th in the WS, while Memola is 12th (and Grassl is 10th).

I think it will depend on the severity of Memola's injury, which I'm sure the fed has better information on than the public, as to whether or not they make the decision right now or possibly put it off until after Euros.

Women and Pairs are straightforward -

Gutmann is 45-50 points ahead of Sarina Joos depending on whether they go by total score or subtract the step sequences and Pezzetta is about 24-25 points behind Joos.

Unfortunately for BecGuar, they only had 2 international competitions this fall, so they don't have any score to use in lieu of the Italian Championships score. I'm sure they'll still be sent to Euros, if they're healthy enough, but unless something dramatic happens, I can't see them getting named to the Olympic team over GhiAmbro. ConMac is a given.

Ice Dance - GuigFab, of course, are going to the Olympics. The interesting choice will be if they stick with Manni/Roethlisberger for the 2nd Euros and Worlds spots they have or if they go with Tali/Lafornara instead, who are 28th in the WS compared to ManRoe's 41st. I think they'll send ManRoe still, but who knows?

If they make the decision next week, it may difficult for them to over-rule the ranking. What they may reasonably do is to decide to wait until Euros. It would be quite hard to argue something different from the ranking without seeing Memola skating post-injury IMO.

I would guess that they will send Manni/Roethlisberger to Euros, otherwise they would have found a way to put Tali/Lafornara 2nd today.
Worlds is possibly another story, given they can factor results from 2026 competitions into it.

I am also curious about the 2nd ice dancing slot at Europeans and have been pulling hard for Tali & Lafornara to get there after an injury-delayed season for Noah. Today was particularly frustrating as they were 0.04 out of 2nd on the FD, which I was hoping for even if they couldn't pull up to 2nd overall.

I have been reading this Italian thread so I understand their Fed has some discretion if it's close, and I didn't realize that Tali & Lafornara still had the higher World ranking. Do we know if the Italian European team will be announced this weekend? Unfortunately, I tend to agree that if the Italian Fed intended to send them to Europeans that they would have found a way to place them 2nd. I didn't notice either couple making a major error on the posted video, so it seems like the judges had some discretion today.

He doesn't need an Italian passport to represent Italy at ISU Championships, just the Olympics - and Italy only has 1 spot for the Olympics.

On Monday 22 December, at the Quirinale, starting at noon, there will be a ceremony to present the flag to the Italian athletes leaving for the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The event will be broadcast live on RAI2.

The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will entrust the Italian flag to the flag bearers of Team Italia Federica Brignone, Arianna Fontana, Amos Mosaner and Federico Pellegrino, ahead of the third edition of the Winter Olympic Games hosted in our country.

The ceremony will be attended by a delegation of athletes, coaches and staff, led by CONI President Luciano Buonfiglio and Italian Paralympic Committee President Marco Giunio De Sanctis.

I know they are within their rights to do so, but the federation continuing along with the announcement while excluding Rizzo or Memola and robbing that moment from them doesn't sit right with me. As unfortunate as the situation is, Rizzo has both the total points advantage and the world ranking, so to push the decision up until Euros, barely a month before the games, is kind of a d*ck move by the federation IMO (and yes, I know my POV is an emotional one,e and the federation has other things in mind).

I'm so sad for Beccari/Guarise. I can't imagine Matteo will continue on, but Lucrezia is still young enough to have at least another Olympic cycle. I wonder if a tryout with Pippo Clerici might be arranged - he's still on the market after Vaananen split with him last spring.
