2025-26 U.S. Ice Dance News, Updates & Discussion - Backstreet Boys & Spice Girls

Seeing the annoucements from some of the other countries/teams, the US teams better bring it. There's going to be some seriously on point camp.

And not in the way that N/M are just slamming together random '90s music campy.

Honestly, none of the announcements from other teams are all that exciting to me. I'm withholding judgment until we see these programs. Having said that, I feel pretty confident that CarPon will have a strong selection.

New interview with Abo/Ves: https://www.goldenskate.com/usas-aboian-and-veselukhin-impress-in-debut-season/

After winning the 2025 Dallas Classic, their first domestic event of the season, the team is now preparing for the Lake Placid Ice Dance International and hopes to earn Junior Grand Prix assignments.

It’s a tall order for a team in only their second season—but if the past year is any indication, Aboian and Veselukhin are only getting started. Veselukhin is also working on his U.S. citizenship so that they can be eligible for the Olympic games in 2030.

It was nice of Hana and Daniil to give Oksana some credit for their choreography for their new RD and FD. She spent about a week in Newington CT this spring after attending the Saturday events of Boston Worlds. Of course, it's classic that one of their programs is to Madonna's Vogue! It's cool they brought in Madonna's Vogue choreographer to help them as well!

Anyone heard anything about Ilin/Cain this season? There are rumors that they split over on fstwt but they had choreo done (not that that makes anything certain) so I'm thinking maybe injury. I also recall Olivia having issues with a medical condition in the fall so maybe she's still struggling with that?

Don't think they've split, they repost team stuff on social media, they got choreo, they are still listed on ISP and they've appeared on the subs list of every JGP so far. My assumption is injury

It looks like Veronica Carhart has decided to go into the family business and switch from singles to dance.

CPom had to change their FD at Champs Camp per this interview with them

I’m sad that they’ve obviously worked hard to present a FD only to find out late that it’s not going to be successful. Wonder why it took one outing before judges to change the direction. You’d think their coaches and even CP would feel uneasy with the program before Champs camp.

Not something I like to read, but it's only August and they still have time until their first GP in October. Better to change it now than going into the Olympic season with a FD they don't feel comfortable with.

Better now than later.

(I keep thinking about how Nathan had to change both his programs mid-Olympic season last time. Better to get out there early because it can happen to anybody).

I can’t access the Insta. What was their FD and what was the problem?
No word on what it was, but Christina said they skated it and it didn't feel right to them, so they decided to change it, and then they showed what they came up with to the judges and everyone liked it. So I'm glad the decision to change it came from them. It would probably have been a lot harder for them if they really felt good about it and then were told to change it.

Maybe they did? I mean they had something to show in a monitoring session before they left. It's really impossible to tell exactly what happened from what they said.

I think in Olympic season your mindset is also different - maybe in another season they would have changed their minds quicker or maybe the would have pushed through for the season. It's too important of a season to not feel 100% certain the choice is the right one and both partners, the coaches and the officials all need to be on the same page. It's also conceivable that things just feel different at home and maybe in the high intensity setting of champs camp they felt a different way.

I wonder if they've maybe had the concept for a few years and had their heart set on it, but when it actually came to it, it wasn't totally for them. Giving up a concept or music you've really wanted to do must be hard to give up.

Vadym is now a U.S. citizen! :cheer2:

Love this and love reading about how they think creatively off the ice. They just seem like such fun and interesting people.

From what she said, Christina seemed to realize it wasn't right even before they talked with the judges. As soon as she stepped off the ice, she said it didn't feel right. It's only August. Better to change now than after they've competed in a GP or two. This is one of the main reasons for Champs Camp. Jason Brown has mentioned that he has scrapped programs after Champs Camp before.
