Yesterday my neighbours and I finished watching Obi-Wan Kenobi (with quite some fast-forwarding). We enjoyed the first episode. From there it was a steep fall downwards: storytelling, characterisation, acting, plot. What a pity. Could've been something.

We watched episode 8 of Stranger Things last night & I continue to find my attention wandering.

I don't think the extra time added to the episodes this season has in any way helped. There are so many stagey scenes in which the characters express Deep Thoughts to each other in such an obviously purposeful way clearly intended to lay the groundwork for later plot developments. I feel like the whole season could have been compressed a lot. The only parts I enjoyed were El's escape from the facility and Hopper & Joyce's Russian escapades. (I will also say once again that I think sidelining Hopper through this whole season was a big mistake.)

I know a lot of people enjoyed this season ... so take all this with a grain of salt.

I finished “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”

I liked it enough to get the trilogy of books on Kindle.

Book is better than the show.

I’m almost through “Keep Sweet, Obey, and Pray” and

I remember following it on the news but the details are horrific.

I followed up with a third special on the FLDS on Peacock; Preaching Evil: A Wife on the Run with Warren Jeffs You don't think you will learn more but you do and I'm so glad this guy is behind bars.

On Hulu: This is so interesting: Victoria's Secret: Angels and Demons about the founder of the company and it's history and one Jeffrey Epstein.

Finished watching Zombies 3 on Disney Plus. A little embarrassing but these movies were a guilty pleasure of mine.

Sadly the magic was gone in the third one. The actors all did their best with what they were given, but the issue was with the script writers not having any direction or idea with what they wanted the film to be about.

Surprised that a big juggernaut like Disney would let that happen to a big franchise film. I know that the films are targeted at kids, but the successful Disney films always have plots that are watchable for all ages.

Someone just needed to sit the writers down and tell them to pick one plot line and properly develop it.

It’s really interesting to me how this does happen in big films…like how did it get past quality control?

Finally got around to watching Bridgerton S2. As a whole I may actually prefer it to S1 and things that bothered other people I ended up being fine with, but I also think it could have been a couple of episodes shorter and not lost anything.

I finally watched Stranger Things season 4 and loved it but can’t say that it is my favourite of all so far nor my favourite tv show. I haven’t yet watched the latest seasons of The Boys and Umbrella Academy yet. I have to really physic myself up before watching those because I fear they maybe a bit too dark and depressing.

The Boys, yes. Umbrella Academy? Not really.

@Buzz

Umbrella Academy's darker side has more to do with dysfunctional family issues. The saving the world bit is so sci-fi/unrealistic that it's more fun than dark and depressing. It's just not a realistic apocalypse.

I started watching The Boys but stopped because it was a lot of gore for the sake of being gross. I didn't mind the rest.

In the episode of Umbrella Academy that I watched last night (season 3 ep. 7?), one of the characters suddenly said "It's like figure skaters and their triple...salchows or whatever" and then went on to make the analogy that skaters need a fixed point to execute their jumps, as they as superheroes need a focus for their powers.

I suspect the writer was thinking more of spotting in ballet/stage dance -- it's not that skaters need to look at a fixed point, but they do need to know what it feels like to have their weight over the landing edge as when it's time to stop rotating.

I didn't want to give too much away but I'd call the saving the world part a big romp!

I don't watch those parts. I make Mr. Mac tell me when I can start watching again. :)

I just watched Persuasion.

It was okay. Started slow but built in the end.

Dakota Fanning was okay. Did a good job considering the material she was given. (I don’t mean Jane Austen source material, I mean the adaptation.)

I thought the adaptation was so I seen that it almost didn’t make sense that Anne wouldn’t just reveal her feelings for Wentworth in the first place.

Can’t decide if my favourite part was Henry Goulding :swoon: or the bunny.:shuffle::rofl:

I'm really enjoying Moonhaven on AMC+. It hits on two of my favorite genres, murder mysteries and sci fi. Plus, Dominic Monaghan and Kadeem Hardison are great together.

Finally saw Under The Banner of Heaven and really enjoyed it! However I felt they dragged it out longer than need be. They did leave a few things out and changed others.

The brothers were arrested while in line at the buffet. Quite undramatic.

I just finished it last night. I agree it could have been tightened up a bit but it didn’t bother me. I really enjoyed it too.

So, before I give this horrible, unpopular opinion, let me put it out there that I am no purist, especially when it comes to Austen. Austen herself wasn't as much of a purist as her fans are :P I think that Austen wouldn't mind an update. I'm not sure she would 100% approve of the latest adaptation, but I think she would not mind it as much as her critics do as she was very much a modern girl, a maverick, and a bit of a rule breaker in her time.

I really, really, really like the latest Persuasion. And that's really saying something considering my deep, abiding loathing for Dakota Johnson, but I found her luminous and really, really, really relatable. I don't mind the breaking of the fourth wall; I think it works, especially as Anne is one of the more introspective Austen heroines. That in and of itself is worth four stars alone. I think the biggest problem with the casting is Captain Wentworth--Anne, Louisa, and Mary (OMG, MARY   is fabulous and so over-the-top horrible that you have to root for her), are spot on but Captain Wentworth is just...boring. I can't imagine pining for eight years over...that. And he needs to brush his hair and shave. They had him act like a lesser Darcy and Darcy belongs solely at Pemberly.

If you watch it, watch it as if it's a standalone move and not based on the novel--think of it as "inspired by" rather than "based on." I FELT the line "now we're worse than exes...we're friends" and the playlist/mixed tape. I understand the criticism of the anachronisms, but I like them. I fully admit to laughing at a five in London is a ten in Bath, especially as a friend once told me that I should move to New Hampshire, as I would be a solid nine as opposed to a "Southern six on a good day." As a movie, it's fun and enjoyable and nice romp on a rainy afternoon with a cuddly dog and popcorn.

I don't mind anachronisms sometimes----I thought Heath Ledger and "A Knight's Tale" was a fun take on Chaucer but then there was never a Chaucer based film before that I dearly loved. I simply hate the idea of someone who might be new to Jane Austen to see THAT as an example of her work. But I respect your openness to this latest foray.

Watched The Bear on Hulu this week and it is incredible. Very stressful watching, especially if you've never worked in a restaurant (the GF, a trained cook, says it's the most realistic depiction of a working kitchen she's seen).

I had never heard of this show 4 days ago. Now counting down the days until S2.

Watching the 3rd season of Blown Away, the glass blowing competition. Still don't know how they do what they do, designing and handling glass at up to 2000 degrees!
I just finished this. These are the type of reality contests I prefer. The ones where they actually have to create something tends to make the contestants more respectful to each other rather than cutthroat competition taking down an opponent. The original competition like this that hooked me in was Face Off. It definitely became a lot like a job interview in the industry so it was so important to be professional. These types are so much more enjoyable to watch. They are also things I could never do.

It's so stressful but interesting to watch.

I liked “The Bear” a lot but I’m not sure how I felt about the reveal in the final episode and what it means for next season.

Saw The Gray Man and loved it! Ryan Gosling is so good as the action hero. It’s like Jason Bourne but with funnier dialog and a main character who don’t take himself too seriously.
I was turned off by this film. In a way it is like watching a disaster film when a man is trying to get to his family and clearly everyone else is dying but not this one guy and his family…and his dog. Who cares about everyone else?
So Chris Evans is charged with killing Ryan Gosling and they do their level best to destroy Prague in the process. Oh well sucks to be Prague—-a shooting range for the CIA.

Just came back from watching Thor: Love & Thunder. We had a good time and there were lots of fun and exciting and touching moments. But it didn't really come together as a whole for me. I certainly wasn't sucked in until about 2/3 of the way through.

If you aren't a big MCU or Thor fan, I'd wait for this to come to Disney+.

She Hulk trailer. This looks so amazing! :cheer2:

I am Groot trailer.

New season of Daredevil is coming.
