But I thought they were getting better since Andrew left singles to focus on ice dance and actually catching up with Holly and Jason. Is Chantelle retiring? How about Andrew?

Correct. Dodds rotates clockwise as well.

According to an inside source, it is somewhere on the Gold Coast but not in Brisbane.

With a capacity of 250 spectators in total, Ice World Boondall would be far too small to hold a Championship event, anyway.

The Brisbane Entertainment Centre, although situated nearby with an inbuilt rink floor, would be far too big.

The location change from Melbourne to Sydney was well before the awarding of 2021, though, and was known well in advance. I'd have thought everything would be buttoned down by now.

Boondall is Brisbane, not the Gold Coast, and is definitely not at all suitable for an ISU Championship event.

A quick Google has brought up Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium, which mentions "figure skating" on its website (I guess Disney on Ice? Maybe?) and has a capacity of 1600.

The Gold Coast Exhibition and Convention Centre has a capacity of 5600 and holds basketball, no mention of skating on its site though and it looks like a singer is booked for 12 February which is on or around the date.

Hopefully Ice Skating Australia will at least change their home page to reflect the update. Four Continents is still listed as being in Sydney.

The Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium hosted the 2007 World Artistic Roller Skating Championships.

This YouTube clip from the event reflects a somewhat high school basketball stadium vibe with restricted sight lines in order to accommodate a full size rink.

Too bad Melbourne wasn't kept as the original choice. The John Cain Arena which has hosted ice hockey in the past would have been a terrific venue.

Agreed. For each location change, it's gone from the cost of an all-event pass, to hotel accommodation and airfares, and with the change to the gold coast, more expensive airfares, accommodation, and daily transport costs to and from the arena (wherever that is!)

I'll likely watch it on the ISU YouTube Channel at home instead.

Hey for me to even go and judge as a volunteer costs me money as where I live now has no rink. Sorry if I am not sympathetic to anyone who is complaining that the venue change will cost them money.

I am directly involved in Ice Sports Tasmania so know what is going on. There are no developments at this stage. Happy to provide information privately.

I can definitely afford to go if they change the venue, but I'm disappointed that Sydney will miss out. I could have encouraged some casual fans to go, but I'm not about to tell anyone not a dedicated fan to go interstate for it.

Maybe I didn’t frame my original statement that well regarding the shift in location of Four Continents.

But, the past two years have been very difficult.

Multiple lockdowns have pretty much ended my business as a sole trader, and psoriasis triggered by that stress hasn’t helped.

My elderly mother, God bless her, offered to make up the difference to go to Four Continents because she knows how much following this sport means to me. Mum is on a pension and having suffered a heart attack last year, needs every cent for doctor’s visits and medication.

We may never have met, and I’m sure you’re a decent person. But please don’t dismiss someone for their financial situation (or make them feel ashamed for being poor).

I am sorry that your area no longer has a rink, though. Hopefully that will change one day.

I'm just glad I didn't try and include 4CCs in my Australia trip plans next year because I would have banked on it being Sydney. Was it ever just provisionally Sydney? I thought it was a done deal.

Things changed because of Covid with the venues. Don't know the exact reasons except they were unable to host it at the originally planned venue.

Hollins is scheduled to be an international competition for all 4 disciplines (Senior/Junior/Adv. Novice), 9-12 June 2023 in Sydney.
