Josh Duggar ('19 Kids and Counting') Arrested by Feds

I think because the neighbor called the police. Once the police get involved, all bets are off as to what will happen. The officer who responded might have thought he had no choice, for example. Or maybe he didn't like Jana's answers to his questions. Or was having a bad day.

What I wonder is why the neighbor did call the police and didn't just return the child.
IMO, the neighbor might well have suspected something more serious because of the family involved.

I'm sure that even if there's just one kid in the babysitter's care, that kid could still sneak out without being noticed. But I wouldn't be surprised if Jana was watching a lot of kids at once. Maybe whoever called in was also concerned about too many kids being supervised by a single person.

If Jana Duggar was supposed to be watching a lot of her younger siblings all by herself, then perhaps the ones who should be charged with child endangerment are her parents.

I do wonder how the parents handled situations like this when they didn't have any adult children.

Was it a neighbor or someone driving by? Because if it wasn't a neighbor, that would explain why the person called the police.

How long before Jim Bob blames his election loss on Satan, the lieberal media, the corrupt elites, etc etc etc
Does he have an opponent now? I thought I heard that he was the only one running when he had announced.

Anna is apparently still blaming Biden and the lie-berals for setting up Josh. She didn't brainwash herself - - her family and her in-laws are all on the same crazy train.

I don't think Jinger and Jill are, but not everyone is able to get away from the influence of that sort of upbringing.

Anna was from another giant Quiverfull family, but I believe they were raised in a trailer and not in a big compound like the Duggars. Marrying Josh was like being chosen by fundie royalty. She was fully indoctrinated by her family then doubly so by the Duggars, being married to the "golden child" eldest son probably comes with a lot of extra pressure. And since his parents literally sacrificed their own daughters to protect him, can you imagine being married to him? No wonder she's convinced it's a lefty plot. If she can't blame it on Biden's BLM army then that means it's due to the defaults in her countenance or whatever shyte they want to call it.

Josh Duggar will be sentenced this month:
Federal prosecutors are recommending Josh Duggar be sentenced to 20 years in prison on his child pornography conviction, while Duggar's lawyers say he should receive no more than five.
...
The government contends there should be sentencing enhancements because many of the images Duggar downloaded involved sadistic or masochistic conduct involving children. The government also contends an enhancement is warranted because Duggar has a history of sexually abusing or exploiting minors.

"Duggar argues that the Court should find that these acts of molestation did not occur and that, even if they did, the court should disregard them because they occurred years ago," according to the government. "Contrary to Duggar's claims, however, evidence produced during pretrial hearings and at trial, including the testimony of his father, Jim Bob Duggar, and his long-time family friend, Bobye Holt, reflect that Duggar engaged in the exact conduct he now denies occurred and is more than sufficient to support the application of this enhancement based on a preponderance of the evidence."

I'm reading the article and the government says he did X and won't take responsibility for it. Followed by a quote showing Duggar isn't taking responsibility for it. The journalist must be doing that on purpose. Some examples:
The government contends there should be sentencing enhancements because many of the images Duggar downloaded involved sadistic or masochistic conduct involving children. The government also contends an enhancement is warranted because Duggar has a history of sexually abusing or exploiting minors.

"Duggar argues that the Court should find that these acts of molestation did not occur and that, even if they did, the court should disregard them because they occurred years ago," according to the government.
The government also argues Duggar went to great lengths to obtain child porn without being detected, including installing a hidden browser on his computer to avoid accountability software what [sic] would have notified his wife...

...Duggar's lawyers argue he never actually knowingly distributed child pornography.

It's so disgusting. He's trying to claim he never molested his sisters after previously admitting to it. Claiming he only downloaded a little porn and then almost immediately deleted it. Ignoring that the porn he did download was full of children being harmed.

And then there is this:
Duggar has not received any treatment or therapy for his conduct to speak of and appears unlikely to ever seek out or meaningfully participate in treatment or therapy to address this conduct, according to the government. He also continues to deny any responsibility for his past or present crimes, according to the government.
and this:
The defense maintains that, at his core, Duggar is a good person who cares deeply for his family and the well being of all those around him.
? The man is a danger to society and needs to be locked up.

Those letters of "support" aren't very convincing IMO. I don't think being a good provider means you have morals. Do they really think these "virtues" are so amazing that they will convince the judge to go easy on Josh Duggar? Or do they not want him to come back and so they deliberately made their letters bland and vague.

OOPS. I accidentally posted this article in the EuroVision thread last night. It has excerpts from additional letter submitted by family (FIL) and friends.
Lots of details about helping the widow neighbor, but nothing about the actual crimes related to his sentence.

Bumping this to mention that today is Josh's sentencing day. Some reporters at the hearing are live-tweeting it (warning of some disturbing info) https://twitter.com/4029emma

Apparently some of the older Duggar kids are in the courtroom but are sitting separately from their parents....

ETA: The judge dismissed some of the charges (for lack of sufficient evidence) so the max that Josh can get is now 20 years in prison instead of 40.

Actually, the charge was dismissed without prejudice because you can't be convicted for both charges and possession is a lesser charge (he's only being convicted of receipt). This was expected. The prosecution explained this after the trial ended in December.

Live feed on YouTube of the post-court statements. US district attorney spoke of the poor kids murdered in Texas and emphasized that this trial was also about protecting children. Defense attorneys said they were thankful that one charge was dropped and that they will be filing an appeal ASAP.

Also, a bunch of reporters and camera crews followed Jim Bob when he came out of the courthouse. He ignored their questions and went stomping over to the parking lot, and got in his car. I guess it was Michelle's job to comfort their kids who were in the courtroom.
