2022 Nationals in Nashville

Las Vegas was great. Tons of people met the athletes and the athletes were not living in terror of no-masks. As soon as they were away from cancerous virtue signalers, they whipped those masks off.
It is now my heart's desire to be a cancerous virtue signaler.

My ranking thus far, like a skater who has made it to regionals, not sectionals, is cancerous reasonably well-behaved signaler.

I guess I'll have to stop pre-rotating my virtue to make it to the top.

If you had looked back at the metal detectors as other people were going thru, you would have seen 3 lights on the detector. The top light would go off because that's where they were holding up their bags/keys/etc in their hands. If there was no significant metal lower on their person, the middle and lower light did not go off. So that's why we had to hold everything above our heads in Las Vegas.

Finally finished reading thru all of the histrionic messages for the last several pages. A few people have some sense and some reasonable thoughts. Most people have clearly been hiding in their homes for the past 2 years and have no idea how many Americans, Swedes, etc have been living normal lives, mask-free. The only places of enforcement is in big cities and even that varies heavily by business. Most people are tired of it, and have realized how ridiculous it all is, and have gone back to normal. Even in the craziest places like NYC and LA, there are a lot of people pretending to play along with fake passes and fake masks and plenty of people pretending to not see because they are sick of being the police force for the authoritarian gov't. The only people who don't see it are those who are still hiding in their homes or don't want to believe it because it would be SCARY to realize their "safety bubble" is a complete farce.

There are tons of famous people that know they cannot share their real beliefs on anything because they will be smeared all over media. So they've memorized the correct sound bites to give the media every time. It's like living in North Korea. Everyone knows they have to praise the Dear Leader and other such things. It would be suicide (or political prison) to do anything else. Don't worry. Australia has already built their political prison camps. I'm sure the Dear Leader of the US will figure out how to build ours eventually too.

My issue as far as athlete safety/vaccinations etc is the FOFS breakfast, Olympics send off, and meet and greats where athletes have to mingle with fans. Some posters have indicated those things are still happening.

With the new variant representing the majority of cases in the US, these should be cancelled.

The promo for the breakfast no longer says anything about you actually seeing a skater. I feel certain the Olympic sendoff will be the skaters on a stage and everybody else at the other end of the hall waving at them. Or the skaters on big video screens waving at you

What is the actual address of the practice rink, please? I know it's somewhere in this thread but I can't find it. I'm still confused about which one it is.

I'm assuming they will be. Or at least modified similar to how the FOFS breakfast was modified at SkAm.

Finally, a chance to use this emoji

Someone like Artur Dmitriev Jr., who will be flying in from Russia, will be tested upon arrival (or have to show proof of a negative test?) before being credentialed, I assume, along with all of the skaters/coaches/volunteers, etc.

ETA according to Karen Chen during her media call:
This is also true of media. Proof of two vaccines + a positive PCR Molecular test 72 hours prior to being credentialed. Same as at SA.

Nashville has 3 ice rinks.
Centennial Sportsplex is in the heart of Nashville and the one closest to Bridgestone arena. Nashville Figure Skating Club resides here.
The Scott Hamilton Figure Skating Club resides in TWO rinks: Antioch and Bellevue.
Those rinks are called "Ford Ice Center Antioch" and "Ford Ice Center Bellevue" and both are about a 20-25min drive from downtown Nashville.
The Bellevue one is the US Nationals practice rink.

Anyone and everyone receiving a credential at Nats must show proof of vaccination and a negative result on a PCR test. The list includes all volunteers, as well. I'm working on my plan for taking the test in time, since the holiday weekend makes it a little tricky.

This drug combo was approved today. It works on Omicron with 89% effective rate. I am a little more comfortable attending Nationals with this as a backup.

I spent some time with my mother this afternoon she’s a news junkie so I got to watch several new shows. And probably the most interesting thing I saw was that even if I get omicron it looks to me like my chances of needing hospitalization or something are incredibly slim. So I’m not panicking. I will be wearing a mask, but I do that anyway I will be doing social distancing which means I probably won’t be sitting in my seat but I probably would’ve done that too

Thank you very much.

Be aware that it being approved does not mean it will be available. Just like with vaccines, supply had to be produced and distributed around the world. Supply may not be available right away. I would not plan a trip in a month based on a treatment approved today.

That being said, decisions to attend nationals should included whether you are fully vaccinated and boosted and whether you are at high risk for severe complications if you test positive. The goal of this pill is to reduce the risk of hospitalization. Most people, especially triple vaxxed people, are not at high risk of hospitalization from CV even if they were to catch it. Someone who is should think seriously about attending Nationals.

Anyone who plans on a PCR for a specific date should try to schedule it in advance. The sheer number of people wanting/needing post-holiday PCRs will be a strain on the system.
I checked and my medical group has plenty of appointments for Cv19 testing, but only until Monday. So I'll have to come back. There were no antigen tests at the Walgreens I went to (for other things too) and while I was in line for a cashier, two different people called to see if they had any!

Yep. I read that only 65,000 courses of Paxlovid will be made available nationwide the first week of January.

Guy Fieri has opened a “Chicken Guy” restaurant in downtown Nashville at 2nd Ave North and Commerce. The opening was delayed due to the 2020 Christmas Day bombing.

Wonder if it is any good? His Vegas restaurant was disappointing

There are two in Orlando -- one at Disney Springs and another just a few blocks from my work, which opened just a few weeks ago. It's not very good at all -- Popeyes, Chick-fil-A and PDQ are all much, much better. I work for a commercial real estate firm and we are already debating how long the non-tourist location will be open.

The new location is along a street where there is a Popeyes, a Chick-fil-A and PDQ adjacent to each other. It's being referred to as the 'Chicken Strip' locally -- and the 'Cock Block' by some !

USFS' press release today (Dec. 27, 2021): https://tinyurl.com/5ssh6pn5

U.S. Figure Skating announced today it has reintroduced its COVID-19 vaccination and testing protocols for all persons attending the 2022 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships, scheduled for Jan. 3-9 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

All event attendees over the age of 5 will be required to show proof of vaccination, or a negative PCR or NAAT COVID-19 test taken within three days prior to entering Bridgestone Arena. Additionally, masks will be required for everyone inside Bridgestone Arena. Bridgestone Arena will use the CLEAR app as it has for the NHL Nashville Predators games and other events held at the facility earlier this year. There will be no on-site testing available for spectators at Bridgestone Arena. More information for spectators is available here.

After closely monitoring national COVID-19 transmission data with specific attention to Davidson County (Nashville, Tennessee) over the past 30 days and in consultation with local organizers and health officials, U.S. Figure Skating is returning to its pre-Nov. 13 protocols to create the safest possible environment for athletes, coaches, spectators and volunteers.

U.S. Figure Skating also has reduced athlete interactions by canceling autograph sessions, reorganizing in-person functions and implementing other precautions to help mitigate risk for athletes, including restricting access to the secondary practice rink, located in Bellevue, to accredited individuals only.

The competition’s COVID-19 protocols for those accredited to access Bridgestone Arena’s event level have also been updated. As previously shared, all accredited individuals will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 PCR or NAAT test regardless of vaccination status to receive accreditation. Additionally, all credentialed individuals participating in the event for more than four days will be required to take a second, on-site test at the expense of U.S. Figure Skating.

Clear App

Spectators are required to upload proof of vaccination, or a negative COVID test (PCR or NAAT), using the Clear app prior to being granted entry into Bridgestone Arena for the 2022 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships. See Clear app instructions here.

2022 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships COVID-19 Protocol Update

U.S. Figure Skating announced on Monday, December 27, 2021, that it has reintroduced its COVID-19 vaccination and testing protocols for all persons attending the 2022 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships, scheduled for Jan. 3-9 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

Has anyone used the Clear app before? I just downloaded it, uploaded/scanned my vax card, and it looks like passes are only given for 12 hours. Does this mean we need to upload our docs every day we're in Nashville or do we just tap a few buttons to renew our pass?
