The Dance Hall 9: Bring the Bling or No Beijing 2021-2022

I'm a little concerned for P/C at this point - they haven't competed in 18 months, rumoured to have been struggling to make decisions on music selections, seemingly not doing a challenger in the Olympic year - it just doesn't inspire the confidence you want to see from the front runners going into an Olympic season. It might all work out fine, but from the outside looking it, it's quite unnerving.

ITA. I truly want them as champions ,but I am very perplexed and worried. I hope all is well . It could be fine for all we know.

Apparently ACI is no longer a Challenger? If they can't get the ranking points from it then I can understand using Masters to showcase their programs to the fed so I wouldn't panic just yet.

Next question is do they need a minimum TES to skate the Italian GP since they didn't compete last season? Maybe they should do Finlandia.

Calling it right now... P/C won't be on the podium in Beijing.

I’ve been sort of thinking the same thing. I think if they make the podium, it’ll be bronze. They seem to have ceded a lot of ground. S/K and H/D have the momentum, and G/P (whom I don’t care for), come in with the world bronze.

I have some moments of wondering if they could sink lower than 4th.

I think providing they get their levels, this likely won't happen. Had they had a strong technical performance at Euros 2020 they would've won - albeit still with a slimmer margin than in previous years. I think the podium is going to be P/C S/K and either H/D,C/B,G/P but the combination and order will depend on technical on the day but also program choice - I think a good RD could be make or break this year.

I agree. Their strategy (or lack thereof) doesn't make any sense to me, but if they're still working hard and have all the skills and expression we know them for, that's going to count for something. They may not win, but it's waaaaay too early to be making dire predictions about falling off the podium, I think.

Well, it depends on what they look like now. The pre Beer Burden P&C would have been the frontrunners. Right now, we don't actually know what shape they're in or what their skating looks like. I hope they are back in form and ready to go.

I wonder if they changed their FD. I seem to recall an article from earlier this summer where they implied they would keep their tango but they might change their mind, something like that. I didn't think it was a good sign at the time that you pulled out of worlds to concentrate on the Olympic season but were still wishy washy on what your FD would be in June. Pulling out of ACI when it's being held in your training city just doesn't give the impression they are ready yet.

Btw... I.AM have been hinting there could be a live streaming Sept 3 like they did last year. Mentioned 8 teams, the number but not the names.

It's at 11am in Montreal - if you have to pay like last time I'd really like to know the 8 teams beforehand!

edit The list is on the website here. It's 7USD and the only teams whose programmes we haven't already had the chance to see are Smart/Diaz and Lajoie/Lagha - but given L/L are keeping Rio and both teams will be at ACI in 2 weeks time, I personally don't think it will be worth it.

Well, yes, that's the question. Assuming they are in top form (which I imagine they would be unless they are/have been injured....remember, they still trained last season), they'll likely be 1st or 2nd. Given the gap in scores between S/K and the rest of the podium at Worlds, I doubt H/D or G/P have a realistic chance of beating P/C unless P/C don't skate well and/or have horrible programs. The latter is unlikely and the first depends on how prepared they are for competition.

There's an announcement on their website (thanks for the heads-up!): https://www.iceacademyofmontreal.com/iamlive

If you look under the pop-up box, there is a link to the list of teams participating. No P/C, Danadians, or Americans.

I think we can all understand a team wanting to have a dry run for feedback before going up against other top competition.

Especially before going up against them in the other team's country. But mainly, French Masters is late compared to other countries' major feedback sessions. I would hope P&C will do a Challenger after so much time away from competition, but I can easily fathom wanting to get feedback first.

My first thought about P/C doing masters was how will she get back into Canada - but perhaps now with vaccination she won't have to quarantine? And isn't the problem with Gabriella getting back into Canada the reason they skipped worlds?

I would say that maybe they'll do Finlandia as it is a few days later (I think) but given it's had to be extended and. S/K, S/B and C/B are yet to be assigned a Challenger, I don't think it's likely

I think last year we had access for 24 hours ? Hope it's the same.
They said it's a competition simulation and they have the following teams competing soon:
Sept 10-12 Lombardia: FB/S, Fabbri/Ayer and Carreira/Pom*
Sept 15-19 US International: Hubbel/Donahue, Hawayek/Baker and the Armenian Team.
Sept 16-18 ACI: Lajoie/Lagha, Sales/Wamsteeker*, Smart/Diaz, Fear/Gibson, Wang/Liu (two other teams from CHN &NZ

I would guess or hope its the 8 bolded teams. I don't think H/D will show before their first competition but maybe, they certainly don't ever seem afraid to debut early.

Canada opens up to fully vaccinated foreigners September 7 (opened up to US August 9) so she would be fine.
Although that will be a good month after opening up to the US so hello Delta wave ;)

Thanks. Not that enticing for me ;)
eta.. Not a slight on them, just feel I have already seen them and/or can wait til they compete.

yes, I think we already saw 6 of the 8. In the case of a couple of them (G/SP, H/C and L/Q), more than once.

Quarantine rules for foreign travelers no longer apply after September 7th.

so is there 8 teams or 7? This list shows 8 but the I.A.M shows 7. As Fabbri/Ayer are my fav.team and they are not on the list of 7 it does make a difference to me.

There are eight. If you click on the link you will seee Harris / Chan AUS.
The original poster listed the first two as :

Armenians
Garabedian/PS

Which is the same team twice ;)

Fabbri/Ayer are not on the list they sent via email today
I hope it does not mean they are ill or injured. They are scheduled to skate at the Challenger Lombardia Trophy. As our crappy Skate Canada did not put them on the national team this seems to be their only international event this year so I hope they do not miss it.

Why would they have been on the national team? And in any case, even if they were they wouldn't have gotten any more fall assignments, they aren't eligible for the Grand Prix beyond the SCI host spot that Sales & Wamsteeker got.

they still might get to events like Egna Trophy or the Mentor Cup hopefully! And they could also get one of the 4CC spots

4CC is definitely on the table (there's probably four or five teams right now competing for three berths). But Skate Canada generally doesn't do the second-half minor internationals at the senior level unless somebody needs minimums.

We are very strong in Canada in ice dance. Skate Canada can add teams at their disgression. You could throw a dime and take your pick between Carolane& Shane, Haley&Nickolas and Alicia&Paul. Carolane&Shane have been struggling and have not competed. Haley&Nickolas at challenge seem a bit sloppy in the free dance and Fabbri&Ayer beat them in RD by several points. Not sure why they have changed coaching teams but at challenge Fabbri andAyer were close in the free dance...and that they were apart for months as he had to have shoulder surgery with long rehab. last feb. When quebec got back on the ice at ice last July he was still in Calgary in rebhab & when he got baack to quebec he was still doiing some rehab and was limited as to what he could do.....So really I think they should have put all 3 teams on the team.
