From Russia With Love [#40]: Summer 2021 & into the Olympic season

The current champions of Russia in ice dancing Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin have begun preparations for the Olympic season. The duo's coaches Irina Zhuk and Alexander Svinin told RIA Novosti correspondent Boris Khodorovsky about how it goes, what difficulties we have to face and how they are overcome.

The only one trying to justify the murder of innocent people here is you.

No.
If your logic was right, I could say too that everyone who tolerates the president of USA, supports all those murders of civilians in Syria and Iraq.
It’s OK if you dislike Navka’s post, but it’s a bit weird if you are assured that your logical cliché about “bigotry leading to deaths” is The Only Possible Point of View for a civilized person.

I’m not going to explain Navka’s post, but I think I may speak about my own thoughts.
I see people discuss sex-change surgeries for children. As far as I understand, the “professionals” almost don’t try to help a teenager to become happy without such treatment, even though nobody knows what is the real reason of the psychological issues, when a person has some issues (maybe almost all the teenagers have some psychological issues). Isn’t it dangerous?

I also read about the experiments by John B Calhoun. (as far as I can see it isn’t just Russian “propaganda”)
I see that usually people say that some animals are homosexual too and a person doesn’t become homosexual, if he/she wasn’t born being homosexual. John B Calhoun did experiments with mice. He had ordinary mice in the beginning, but later the behavior of the mice changed (“Violence quickly spiralled out of control. Cannibalism and infanticide followed. Males became hypersexual, pansexual and, an increasing proportion, homosexual.”) The text says it happened so because of the stress. Sorry, that I quoted the text mentioning “cannibalism and infanticide”. I don’t mean that it can be absolutely the same with people, but… as far as I can see those experiments show that changes are possible.

Maybe it would be right to say that “the new reality” in the Western countries is still an experiment. (I mean the situation keeps changing, new kids grow in another reality indeed) Of course, it is good that now the situation seems to be not bad, but I believe that Navka can be sincerely worried (even if she chose not a good way to voice concerns about “the new reality”).

Things seem to be simple, when you pretend that it is just about killing or not killing. People shouldn’t be killed, of course. Yet maybe sex-change surgeries which can be done by mistake are dangerous too.

Your reasoning is absolutely absurd. Your position is basically this:
“Dangerous bigotry that leads to the deaths and murders of innocents should be tolerated because other people do shitty things too.”
It’s all shitty @Rina RUS . The only one trying to justify the murder of innocent people here is you.
Preach it girl, preach it!

Yes!! But you are right these junior partnerships are fragile. Whose instagram?
Go to samokhints, there you will see a number of skaters in practice including the lovely Georgians, keep scrolling, some pages have dots, keep clicking, you find Katashinskaya with her new partner. Brief but it will give you an idea on why she is brilliant, and should be taken serious by the RSF.

If you're going to insist on sharing these divisive (and in my opinion offensive) views, please take them to PI and leave this discussion for news about Russian skaters. It seems like you're just trying to provoke others and your posts are barely connected to the topic.

According to this article from March Katashinskaya seems to skate with Matvey Grachev.

Is Katashinskaya/Grachev in the first or second practice clip from March? https://www.instagram.com/p/CMc1-4FlDY7/

Oh my, did you see her tango with her previous partner, not to mention the latin program in which he couldn't keep up? She is the most interesting thing in Russian ice dance right now. I hope this partnership works out.

They are the second but the guy isn't as sure of himself. Russia needs a male ice dancer who can bring the charisma and sass and versatility. They need a balanced pair. They're all too unbalanced with limited range and originality. We've seen everything they're doing now done better before. My other hope is Valerie A. and partner currently trained by Krylova. He has it, his partner was sweet and effective in the FD but forgettable in the RD. So I guess the wait continues.

To say the truth I didn’t want and don’t want to argue. I showed a pair of articles which are not Russian and don’t seem to be “propaganda”. It just seems to me that some people on the West also think that (for example) it would be right to be careful about sex-change surgeries for teenagers. I just mean people can be sincerely worried. I didn’t try to provoke anybody, I don’t want to argue.

Yes I did! Thoroughly enjoyed her performance.I really do hope so. She is a gem.

Russian male skaters today are rather small, they need to "bulk up" abit. Another thing is the coaches tend to favour them more than the girls which I personally find to be rather unprofessional. Take a look at the way Zhuk treats her boys.

Yeah. And you're right. The boys are on the slight side with few exceptions, namely Drozd and Shibnev. But let's see what Zhulin does with Drozd and Abashkina. I found Drozd more interesting to watch with Loboda. Zhulin tends to drain his skaters of character and reproduce versions of himself and Maya Usova on ice or Navkaites on ice. I cannot blame him because they're given the scores. For my tastes I find H/K too pretentious on the ice. To this day Picasso is one of my favourite programs regardless. While I have my reservations about Morozov, with the right team, when his head is screwed on straight his work is much more interesting. There are other person's work that I also like but I seem to be drawing a blank right now. Peter T. can have his moments also but he seems to be under the radar these days.

Zhulin with his stone age Choreography. I just can't....

Yet still he gave I&K Shindler's List and I did like Don Quixote for them (Katsalapov had a back injury, was struggling more at the time, so he couldn't quite sell it) and Crazy for B/S. So it's a hit or miss sort of thing....There is also the great one he did for Zlobina and Sotnikov..so....

Yeah, I remember the one he did for Zlobina and Sitnikov. I think it also depends on the athletes as well.

Stanislav Morozov (who is coaching singles skaters at the sports school of Armavir in the Krasnodar Territory) was asked "Who do you see as favorites of the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing in the competition of sports pairs?": https://rsport.ria.ru/20210725/morozov-1742733164.html
Google translated excerpt:
- Only Russian couples. Even the fact that the Olympics will be held in the capital of China does not add bonuses to skaters from the Middle Kingdom. For me, number one is now Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov. Again, if they manage to cope with the nerves.
Q: This summer, this couple moved to the Eteri Tutberidze group, which had previously worked only with singles.
- It is difficult for me to give any assessments of this transition. Working in Armavir with children, he is [I am] very far from elite sport. Yes, and there is no desire to climb there. The main thing is that Russian couples are on the podium in Beijing, and one of them is on the highest step.
What caught my eye in this article was S. Morozov saying he is now coaching Russian-born pair skater Mikhail Akulov and his new partner (ETA that I've cross-posted this translated excerpt below in the Finnish news thread):
- Have you returned to the [Nina] Mozer group?
- I do not even have such a desire, as well as the desire to give any comments on this issue. For the second year I have been working with young singles, but rather singles in Armavir. Now I have a sports couple who are planning to compete for Finland. The boy Mikhail Akulov previously skated for Switzerland, and the girl is a former Finnish singles skater Milania Vaananen. In this country, there have been no sports couples for a long time who would have performed at the World and European Championships. The initiative to create a pair belonged to Akulov.

Now Stas Morozov is someone I really want to write a tell-all-book. His partnership with Savchenko and Volosozhar, being coached by Steuer along with Aljona and Robin, later coaching his ex-partner (on and off the ice) and her new husband, being a coach in Mozer's club etc.

Everyone always leaves AoP "on excellent terms"...:shuffle:

Ah, so Rozanov is now gone too? That's interesting turn of events.
