I won't be that upset if it's Sam but he hasn't been perfect throughout this whole process and he does have the history of choking when it counts (which I've lived and died through over all these years).

Sam doesn't really need to do his wonky pbars at Olympics team final. He's not that shaky. His Floor and High Bar are undeniable at this point. He makes it no question.

Yoder is goodish but overhyped I think. The specialist spot is so tough, Don should go based on this competition actually. I don't think any of them are going to medal or come close in Tokyo anyway so whatever.

Yay, Alec! Congrats to the team!

I'm surprised they're taking so many to Tokyo (esp with YKW, I would think the organizers would want to strictly limit the numbers) but good for them. Heartbreaking to not make the team as competitors but at least they'll have the experience of going there.

Dumb question on floor ex: why do the men bend their knees and wave these arms over their legs before the last tumbling?

For me, it is just his demonstrated inconsistency with international competitions. I’m also looking to get the younger generation experience since ther is just the 3 yrs before Paris.
then they should have done better this time. There's no guarantee any athlete will still be competiting in the future. Based on criteria, he earned the spot.

If it's always giving people experience for the future, then you're likely not sending the strongest team and therefore really not fighting for the medals as you potentially could be. Sam's a wildcard, but like mentioned up-thread: he's very likely to only be used in two events, one of which is floor exercise. He had the big scores in those two events, and he earned his ticket.

Gymnastics, much like skating, is unpredictable. It's impossible to know where any of these guys will be in 3 years, and what the up-and-coming talent is capable of and how they will progress.

So is Daloloyan definitely out for AA then? I was hoping he could recover in time.
Sadly I don’t think there’s enough time. He was still doing some events (rings, high bar, etc.) at The Russian Cup a few weeks ago without a true dismount. As much as I’d love to see him back contending in the AA, I don’t think he should risk his future health by attempting vault and floor too soon.
