She's Here!!
I'm not going....it pains me, but I'm just not comfortable with the crowds and everything here. Yes, I've been vaccinated, but I just can't handle all of those people.
Understandable. I'm still looking forward to your insights, though.

Will ALL the coverage be on NBC properties (Peacock, NBCSN, Oly Channel, and NBC)? I can't for the life of me figure out what Flo has as it's all labeled "2021 USA Gymnastics Championships" which isn't even a thing. I guess Flo can't use the O word. Anyone here subscribe?

National Championships for rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline & tumbling, and acrobatic gymnastics:

Hey look at Diab! There’s a U.S. guy that’s actually good on rings! 👍

I’m glad Wiskus looks like he’s recovered from that high bar disaster at Nationals. IMHO, it was still a bad move for him to have continued though.

Pretty good first night for the men overall. I also feel like we actually got to watch a LOT of the gymnasts during the competition tonight (it was hard with three events going on at the same time but they went back and showed quite a few routines on tape delay) and hopefully that carries over to the women's competition too so we can see a whole bunch of the girls this weekend. :cheer:

After watching the men, does anyone know if anyone is a legit medal threat on any apparatus? I feel like the biggest problem with a gymnast like Moldauer is he doesn't just kill it on anything. If Whittenburg really has a chance on vault it makes more sense to take him.

Alec Yoder has a legit chance to win a medal on PH, Donnell could win a medal on VT if he gets his Dragelescu VT back, Gage Dyer was also really good on VT and FX, and that guy who did rings was also really good (sorry, I forget his name). These guys really aren't great on the other apparatuses though so it doesn't makes sense to put them on the team. They could easily take that specialist spot though. With only having four team members now for the guys, it really does become a bit of a puzzle trying to figure out who will be on that team. You almost need four solid AAers now just to make sure all your events are covered and in a 3 up, 3 count team event, IMO anything could happen with all these countries (some of which don't even have four solid AAers and are also having trouble figuring out their teams). I would rather see four consistent good gymnasts make up that men's team this year for that reason but maybe that's just me. :D

But does the US even have a chance at medaling in the team event? If not, why not just take a collection of specialists. At least some of them have a chance to burn bright.

Honestly, I have no idea what's going to happen in the team event (I don't really know how the other countries are shaking out with their teams right now but it seems like Russia, China, and Japan are the three medal faves) but you only have four guys who have to cover six events so you can't take all guys who are specialists on an Olympic team this year because you have to have enough guys to do the 3 up, 3 count in the team final. It was easier to take a couple of specialists on the team when they had 5+ team members but that just isn't feasible with a team of four guys this year (IMO of course). There really aren't any strong medal contenders in the AAers at US Trials although I think some of them have better shots than others at making the apparatus finals on a few events (I think Sam, Brody, Yul, and Shane all have a couple of strong events where they could make the apparatus finals).
