Article on Hanyu's recent graduation from university:

Google translation:

It was revealed on the 8th [November] that Yuzuru Hanyu (25 = ANA), a figure skating boy who won the Winter Olympics (Olympic Games) for the second time in a row, graduated from Waseda University School of Human Sciences (correspondence course) in September. The graduation ceremony held on the 20th of the same month was reduced in scale to prevent the new c*ronavirus. The representatives of each major received diplomas and did not attend.

After graduating from Miyagi / Tohoku High School, entered the school in 2013. he majored in human information science. While attending school, he won gold medals at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics. He has submitted assignments in parallel with his competitive life such as practice and games, such as taking online classes in his base in Canada.

When he made a remote recording appearance on Nippon Television's "24-hour TV" broadcast on August 23, he submitted his graduation thesis, saying, "I was able to concentrate on my studies and complete my dissertation." Report that. As one of the items, he introduced "Study of jumping on land by 3D motion capture".

Wearing a motion capture of a device that digitizes and records and analyzes human movements, he researches movements by jumping a triple accelerator (three and a half jumps) on land. He also said that he would like to use it for the development of the figure skating world, such as improving the skills of athletes and scoring AI in the future.

Translation of an interview he gave to his university's publication: https://twitter.com/Iron_Klaus/status/1325779896841461760

Yuzuru will skate to 'Let Me Entertain You' by Robbie Williams for his short program [choreo by Jeffrey Buttle] and 'Heaven and Earth' by Isao Tomita [choreo by Shae-Lynn Bourne] for his free skate this season. Great choices, I can't wait to see his new programs!:cheer2: I hope he stays safe at Nationals. Good luck to him!

His new FS also used another Tomita's piece from 1972 historical drama.

Is he skating at the nationals? The lust says ‘Bye’ after his name. What does it mean?

If he has a "bye," doesn't that mean he doesn't have to qualify for Nationals, based on his previous & most recent competitive results?

Yuzuru's new SP at Japan Nationals, he is skating to "Let me entertain you" by Robbie William: https://youtu.be/GAFeVmIQLqw

He got 103 because of an invalid combo sit spin which cost almost 4 points with GOE. People are guessing it's because of the sit twizzle being counted as a failed sit spin. If he took that out then this performance is like 107 or something. This is his new short program after 10 months and without a coach beside. He has been training alone so it is tough. Hopefully, he will perform even better in the FS.

The links might be down soon due to copyright though. So watch it as soon as possible.
EDIT: In case the youtube link is down,
here is the video of his new SP on twitter:

Yuzuru has won his 5th National title with the new FS program called Heaven and Earth: https://youtu.be/TyxweQ5xPNE
Another video in case the first one got deleted: https://youtu.be/ldKGnWFx6fk
(I will update with HD quality videos later). He went clean and scored 215.83 with step sequence level 3 and V spin at the end. He also did not do the highest BV he could so there is room to score higher.
He won with total 319.36 points (118.61, 97.22 + 215.83)
Protocol FS: data0105.pdf (jsfresults.com)

In case the youtube link is taken down due to copyright, here are the links to his FS on Twitter:

All hail King Yuzu!

POOH-ERFECT!!

I definitely prefer this to his SP this year. I hope that there’ll be a 2021 Worlds so that we will see him & Kolyada, Chen, Jason, etc together. So many excellent LPs this season.

Yuzuru just scored 319 points after 319 days of no competitions. https://twitter.com/allaboutyu_zu/status/1342818378860269570?s=20

To be honest, I am still baffled, no coach, no competition in 10 months. This is surreal.

Yuzuru said he still sent his practice video to his coaches in Canada for advice. But training alone is really difficult and crazy being all alone in those months, and there was a long time he felt devastated as he could not jump anything (which last till October and November). I have no idea how he managed to get over that time and get back his quads. Good for him to pull through this time. Maybe someone will upload full translation of his interviews soon.

@meioma He couldn't jump anything because of injury or COV!D logistics?
I could not rephrase everything he said in the press conference, there are people translating it we will soon get the full interview in English. In short, he said he could not jump anything for a while when he was training alone, he did mention his leg hurting but it seems more like fatigue after training for long without advisors by his side. You know he said he could not invite his coaches to Japan in the middle of such a difficult time, he also wanted to stay safe and did not travel much as he has asthma so the disease might be bad for him.

Anyway, the time he mentioned that he could not jump anything even the 3A, my guess is that it was due to various factors, like loneliness leading to bad mentality as he had no coach and no choreographer beside, the only comments he had were through emails and so on. I mean, if I were training alone for 10 months like that I would go crazy. I am not an athlete and this whole year also takes a toll on me. So yeah, he experienced this p*d*m*c just like everyone. We are all in this together.

EDIT: my favourite sequence is when he did 4S - 3A2T - 3lo consecutively in just 30 seconds https://twitter.com/mikejardins/status/1342824787131977728?s=20

Just watched Yuzuru’s LP. Wonderful.
Just a small note, Yuzuru is supposed to play the role of Uesugi Kenshin, he was one of the most powerful daimyos of the Sengoku period. In short, he was a Samurai. Wiki on this character: Uesugi Kenshin - Wikipedia
The thing is, there is a theory that Uesugi Kenshin might have been a woman so... you see all the flower and feminine traits in his costume this time. The music is from this movie it seems Heaven and Earth (1990 film) - Wikipedia

This FS is about a true Samurai, in contrast to Seimei which was about a shaman. I just want to make it clear since many people might mistakenly think of them as the same. From an Asian point of view, the two programs are very different. They are both about real historical figures in ancient Japan but they happened to live in different eras. Seimei is about a shaman fighting demons. "Heaven and Earth" on Uesugi Kenshin is more about human struggle and internal conflicts.

My God. Hanyu is simply amazing. To pull two amazing performance together with new programs and no live coaching for 10 months - wow!

yes there’s room for improvement, but Hanyu is raising his game to compete with Chen and I love every minute of it!

Couldn't agree more. I had just about given up on seeing Hanyu compete this season. And, then, he does and presents us with this! What a gift in the season of giving.

I wanted to post on Facebook a link to Yuzuru’s fabulous LP but I can’t get it anymore.

ETA - I did post it Facebook later but the video is rather confusing, with too many other things. Will look for just his LP and K&C.

Quoting myself because I have found the translation of Yuzuru's words on this character:
Yuzuru: While (Uesugi Kenshin) was called the "god of war" and seemed to also understand the thrill of fighting/competing, there was the conflict in the fact he seemed to always be aware of the accompanying sacrifices that resulted from his battles, and that he had a sense of values regarding battle very much resonates with me and so I thought that maybe this is the reason I can express this (sense of) overlap in my current self's "competitions", as of they are "battles".

The music Isao Tomita's piece originally come from 1969 television series.
Actual sound source is re-recorded version released in 1994 album with other Tomita's soundtrack pieces.

1990 movie is adaptation from same novel using different music.

The FS program also used another soundtrack piece originally come from 1972 television series.
(middle part of the program from 52" to 3'10" ( 3A+2T to 4T+1Eu+3S ) )
Actual sound source is re-recorded version from same 1994 album.

Isao Tomita is known for one of pioneers of electric music but he is great composer
not only electric music but also many orchestral and soundtrack works.

I am rejoiced that Yuzuru to use Tomita's no-electric work because
this side is not known outside of country.

Yuzu skated the best debute programs in the past 11 years of his senior career, this is crazy considering the circumstances, no coaches, training alone at night, first competition in 10 months, partly self-choreographed programs, he even cut his own music.
He shows great versatility, the two programs are vastly different from each other. The SP is phenomenal and fun, the FS is divinely beautiful, serene and ethereal. What a legend he is.

His performances were the perfect Christmas gifts for me in this difficult year.
