From Russia With Love [#38]: Fall/Winter 2020

Well, Alla Loboda got engaged, Drozd and Konkina withdrew form the Russian Grand Prix event (I do not know reasons). But it seems like a really slow day. Sigh.

Are Konkina and Drozd still skating? They seem to keep withdrawing from competitions lately.
Or maybe one or the other is sick or injured but just no news. Realistically though anything is possible. The pandemic has set back a lot of up and coming teams and the uncertainty drains one of motivation.

But, time will out.

Medvedeva didn't plan to compete in Kazan and was not it the preliminary Entries list that was published few days ago, so it's just another journalists' attempt to speculate and create news other nothing.

Btw, Anastasia Tarakanova was added to the roster!
While Medvedeva did not announce that she will compete in Kazan, she did say after the Russian Test skate that she is aiming to participate in the "later Cup of Russia events" and now there are only two left - Kazan and Moscow. Cup of Russia events are the pass to Russian Nationals. The journalists only states that Medvedeva is not participating because she is not on the roster. As much as i am skeptical of many articles and news, this one is legitimate... :)

Also besides "the unexpected" Tarakanova, there is also "the unexpected" Rukhin on the roster.

Alina Zagitova wins "Most Popular Female Athlete" award in a "MATCH! 5 Years" contest (from MATCH sport media company, MATCH TV etc.). The 2nd place is Sharapova, 3rd place Medvedeva.

News article.

Zagitova in an interview at the presentation.
In interview she said:
  • that she is devoting more time to studies because she realized the importance of education.
  • she refused to answer questions about Medvedeva, "please only ask questions about me".
  • she replied about her return to competition "it's ******** now, many important competitions are in question. let's wait and see."
  • re coaches "An ideal coach is tough and with soft feminine nature - and that is Eteri Georgievna".
  • she does not mind haters, their comments only motivate her to do better.

I wonder if this is where trusova and Alena get their divaness from. ?. Refusing to discuss Medvedeva. Weren’t there also rumors that Alina refused to do Ice age if medvedeva was doing it?

There is nothing divaesque about Zagitova refusing to answer questions about Medvedeva. Why should she be expected to opine on anyone other than herself? The interview is with and about Zagitova so the questions about Medvedeva are irrelevant and should never have been asked.

Those "rumors" were dismissed in a recent Averbuch interview, where he mentioned that Medvedeva was offered but said she needs to concentrate on skating career.

Speaking of Zagitova, The OlympicChannel posted an interesting comment next to Zagitova's photo... :)

"While Olympic champion ⛸️ Alina Zagitova has found her new role as a TV host "very difficult," it's given her clarity on one topic: Ignoring social media criticism."

Looks like the fashion coordinator/stylist for "Ice Age" finally got the clue..... This time Alina's outfit is form fitting... :)

I think it is the best one from all she has worn at this show. Maybe she changed her stylist. If she has access to the internet, she must be aware of what people were saying about her costumes from this show.

Alina looks adorable no matter what. But the style would be more suitable for my mother than for an 18 year old girl.

Maybe she changed her stylist.
The Boss-stylist and his team are employees/contractees of "Ice Age", the only thing that could have happened is that the Boss-stylist took over Alina's styling himself, instead of one of his team-stylists. He (the Boss-stylist) is a very famous guy and worked many famous projects.

Who cares about colours, at least she doesn’t look like a birthday cake, a huge marshmallow sweet or a candy floss. That’s definitely an improvement.
One thing that i do believe Boss-stylist (what he said in an interview), is that many boutiques and clothing venues are closed because of *********, and yes, that makes selection limited, and the host/hostess outfits have to be a) shiny/sparkly b) showy c) festive.

Zagitova has plenty of nice clothes, the ones she bought and many designer stuff that were given to her after the photo-shoots and public/TV appearances. But they would not be right for an "Ice Age" hostess... :-)

Come on! The show was planned months ahead. The C19 situation is around since March. So anyone planning a show would surely realise that the boutiques may be closed at some point, and order appropriate clothing ahead. It is also very unlikely that the boutiques have been closed the whole time for the past eight months. Besides, the boutiques would be more than happy having their clothes used on TV, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the boutiques would be happy to open for an hour (a private opening for a concrete customer, especially when the customer is an olympic champion in figure skating - in Russia, where they really love the sport figure skating). So any excuses about not having any choice because of C19 sound a bit weak to me.
