Liked them both very much since they were kids
Both intially come from Chalons en Champagne and Barbara Piton
Didn't expect them both to leave Chalons a few years apart and to end up skating together

They are skating at Baraban ?
Second surprise.
Doesn't make much sense unless ...
Is Fabian going to coach in Baraban ?
I've red on the Français Volants website that Bourzat was leaving Paris to coach in Lyon...
Fabian coaching mini-Gwendal. Makes sense.

:wuzrobbed
I'm a little hearbroken over the news of their split. Grandin/Chardain suddenly disappeared from the map last season.
She reappeared at the end of the season, dancing solo for les Français Volants.
I was hoping it was a temporary thing.

Alena Kanysheva and her new ice dance partner, Andrei Pylin, are pictured on Igor Alferov's Instagram:

He previously competed internationally with Ksenia Golubeva at the Advanced Novice level in 2018-19 (Halloween Cup, Mentor Torun Cup, Bavarian Open) and with Angelina Zimina the season before that.

Alena Kanysheva spoke about her switch to ice dance in an interview earlier this month (I posted the link here): https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...ve-37-summer-2020.107296/page-20#post-5847739

Google translated relevant excerpt:

- How was your transition to ice dancing?
- Even at the Grand Prix finals in [Vancouver] Canada, I met girls from the group of Maria Valerievna and Denis Eduardovich (coaching duet Maria Borovikova and Denis Samokhin - Match TV). We kept in touch, and at the end of January, when it was necessary to decide the question of the future, somehow everything worked out right away. I live 10 minutes walk from the Olympian skating rink in Balashikha. I went to see the coaches, and they accepted me.

- What have you already mastered from dance supports, ligaments, steps?
- I had little time to work out: only a month and a half before quarantine and July (after the opening of the skating rinks). I have already tried and continue to develop all the dance elements. But I think one should judge not by individual successes, but by the program as a whole. It's one thing to do just support or twizzle, and whole rent is completely different. Technique, interaction with a partner, sliding, presentation of the program to the viewer are important there. There are many subtleties that are appreciated in the complex.

- For 10 years you answered only for yourself on the ice, and now you are skating in a duet with Andrey Pylin. These are, of course, new emotions, even chemistry. How do you like in your new role?
- While it’s unusual, it’s too early to talk about the level of sliding with a partner. But Andrey and I get along well. We had known each other a year before my transition to dancing. He then skated with Ksyusha Golubeva. Andrey is a kind, educated, purposeful boy. Before, I introduced him to others, but now we are very comfortable and fun in training.

- When to expect the debut of the Kanysheva-Pylin pair in the competition?
- Now we continue to slide and put programs in parallel. Of course, the situation is unpredictable in the country and around the world. If there are tournaments scheduled for the coming season, we want to play at two stages of the Russian Cup.

Re-posting from the Programs/Choreographers thread in GSD:
Charlène Guignard and Marco Fabbri announced, during an interview yesterday (https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=739004656658853&ref=watch_permalink)
that they will be keeping their Grease rhythm dance next season.
For the free dance, they will be skating to the soundtrack of the film Atonement.

Looking through the last “folk dance”-themed season the other day, I remembered that Domnina/Shabalin weren’t the only Russian dance team doing an indigenous peoples caricature that year:

:scream:

Increasingly I wonder if we didn’t dodge a bullet here. You just know somebody would have done something completely tasteless and gotten a bunch of bad press.

I love that dance. It's actually one of my favorites ever. I'm curious, what do you find questionable about it? It seems totally different from the Domnina/Shabalin one (which I was truly shocked by when I saw it for the first time this spring) to me. I know there are some possible issues brought up in the comment thread with the costumes not being from the appropriate region, but I think the choreography itself is pretty good. I guess there's a moment or two I could see being vaguely questionable if I am specifically looking to find fault but I don't think it's anything like D/S.

It’s certainly nowhere near as bad as D/S’, but dressing up like Native Americans is a big “no”, period. This is something they protest about every Halloween.

Very random thought....there's a musical out there called The Rink written by Kander/Ebb (of Chicago and Cabaret fame) that starred Liza Minelli and Chita Rivera...I can't believe nobody thought to use music from that show for the SD.

Some more details on the IAM event on Sept 11 (I know they're in Canada but that's kind of an ominous day). It's a "training session." Website/IG says program run-throughs and interviews. And there is a cost: $15. IG has a discount code for 50% off if you purchase before this Thursday.

I'm interested if it will be posted afterward, since I won't be able to watch the whole thing live.

ETA: It will be available until end of day on Sept. 13. :)
