Damage control and p.r. spin for the royal firm is in full swing. The various palaces are often competing fiefdoms, but they will all pull together to protect the firm's image. It's a bit quiet on the KP front (more than likely Kate will not pursue any action against Tatler, as Dennen and the publishers are not caving; a lot of people feel the so-called Turnip Toff aristos and Dennen himself are behind the subtle shade against Kate & the Middletons in the otherwise overtly praiseworthy cover article, 'Catherine the Great,' that threw rocks at the Sussexes).

To soften how bad it is looking that the firm did not speak up for Meghan against the media dragging during her pregnancy (among other obvious troubling tabloid knocks against the Sussexes, not to mention the death threats), Sophie has given an interview to London's Sunday Times in which she talks sweetly about M&H, and claims (probably with a straight face), "We all try to help any new member of the family."

That's rather suspect coming from Sophie because during M&H's senior royal farewell at the Commonwealth Day service in March, Sophie cut both Meghan and Harry dead with a very obvious cold shoulder and a peeved look on her face, which btw matched Kate's sour expression and obvious snubbing of the Sussexes. What made the snubbing by W&K and Sophie all the more obvious was the generous and friendly way the Earl of Wessex treated his nephew Harry and his niece-in-law Meghan. I was surprised by Sophie's behavior toward the Sussexes at the Commonwealth service since she'd previously displayed a friendly attitude toward Meghan in public. In any case, Meghan already told us in the South Africa documentary last October, "Not many people have asked if I'm okay."

Sophie Wessex is being pumped up hard by the firm. They rightly should have been promoting her more prominently all these years, but they didn't. Now, she's getting a lot of media coverage in the absence of M&H:

I recently came across this channel. I think they do an excellent job of royal fashion analysis. Lots of great insights, tips, and astute, fair commentary:

I love the winter coats of both of them. IMO Kate has the edge here but I usually don't like her dress style as much as Meghan's. It's a little too fussy for me. They both do sportswear & casual very well. And I love to see them both in formal wear. Here again Kate sometimes goes too fussy/frilly. But she always looks beautiful anyway. But my favorite overall "look" is Charlotte's.

Former Spanish King is under investigation. Sad to see this ... I remember when he was regarded as a truly great leader, actively involved in dismantling Franco's dictatorial powers:

For anyone who has access to iplayer, this program about Monaco is fascinating. It's about the whole principality, and the program makers have good access to the royal family and their households. I hadn't realised how much Albert actually has to be involved in the running of the principality and making commercial decisions to promote it and attract wealthy people to keep spending money there. He's also quite an entertaining interviewee.

And unfortunately, not the first corruption case in that family.

King Felipe's handling of his sister's tax evasion is a sharp contrast to how the British royals (their cousins) are handling Prince Andrew's Epstein-related scandal.

Happy 99th birthday to Prince Philip! He certainly has enormous staying power. I had a friend who reached the age of 99, and I thought he might make it to 100. But he'd once told me that such a milestone number didn't matter to him in the least. He was always so practical-minded and good-humored. He and his wife were wonderful friends to have. She died in the 1990s. He passed in 2012, several weeks before his 100th birthday. I still miss them both. ♥

That photo looks pretty typical of Prince Phillip but it's not very flattering of the Queen. She normally takes a much better picture. She's not even smiling.

For those interested, a mini-Trooping the Colour ceremony took place today in the Quadrangle at Windsor Castle with the Welsh Guards trooping the colour while practicing social distancing. The Queen appeared to view the ceremony traditionally honouring her birthday, accompanied by her equerry and two additional senior military officers:

Kate and William both ventured out today:

Love how Wills went to the bakery - and gets a birthday cake - and Kate to the Garden Centre. 😊

Hope the kids enjoy the cake and whatever else William picked up as another picture showed him with a brown paper bag. 😋

A new pic of the Cambridge kids. It's interesting that when we first saw Charlotte she was dressed very girly and frilly, and now she seems to favor more tomboyish clothes.

Most pictures of her are when she's out in the public. Of course her play clothes won't be frilly like that. The group picture is the cutest I've seen of all of them.
