I just cannot believe this story is true. No matter where they are and where they go support staff will be needed to accomodate them. In some cases these persons may be less fit, older and immuno compromised and they will ultimately be affected. Latest data show that 1 in 4 ********* -19 infected persons show no symptoms whatsoever. Putting other people at risk is not cool. I could not care less who does it: Russians, Japanese, American, French. The life you save may be someone dear to you or your very self. I cannot believe this is really happening.

I agree and I don't get it because the show she is in will end up being cancelled.

Exactly. I will wait and see. Still think it's just an elaborate April Fools prank.

I agree it’s totally irresponsible and selfish. Japan, like Italy has a huge elderly population and the governor of Tokyo has asked residents to stay home. People live in close confines there and rely on public transport to get to the shops/medical clinics etc. The people are used to typhoons, earthquakes and tsunamis and coping with emergencies but her actions are quite frankly reckless if this report is true.
I sincerely hope it’s not true.

I do hope it is april 1 joke..... But there are enough rumors in the internet from russian fans (who are in Japan) about not all Japanese rinks being closed... and that elite skaters all gathered in a secluded camp and practicing. There are some photos indicating it is possible, like this one, where one of the spare rooms at a training site is turned into a skaters' dormitory with reclining beds..... https://www.instagram.com/p/B-cD60jJ1Td/

Japans' count of infected people is over 3000, it is a small densely populated country, while Russia is huge and wide in comparison and yet only 1800+ infected. If the training camp rinks open in Japan, there is no reason why the rinks in Sochi and Novogorsk can't be open without the "world moralistic world" yet again jumping on Russia with moralization...

Leaving aside the skating situation, do you really think Russia only has 1800 infected people? The number of cases who haven’t been tested is supposed to be huge, and Putin like Trump and Johnson doesn’t want the real number out there.

I sure hope Med is not flying to Japan which would be extremely stupid.

The show has international cast members too. I wonder if they hope to have them go to Japan as well? Or would they be replaced with local skaters? Honestly Medvedeva just needs to be careful she doesn’t get stuck somewhere. Especially as it’s not like she’s planning on living in Japan long term.

As for isolating skaters away, I don’t know how I feel about isolating children away from their families at a time like this. Because I imagine most of the concern about loss of ice time is about child skaters losing crucial development time rather than the adult skaters losing training time. It’s going to be quite some time until big international competitions anyway.

If even the Sambo 70 children and coaches are home with their families, that should be good enough for everyone else.

And also I hate this idea that a big death toll is needed to warrant taking action. I’m sure that no one is volunteering their own family to form a statistic.

When needed, Russia could also intentionally exaggerate or reduce the number of people or the severity of a situation, IF the authorities think it will make the population more obedient and inclined to follow rules and restrictions. In this instance i don't know.

But i remember the Cholera Epidemia 1970 in Crimea during highest tourist season, in August. It was quite serious, all transport ex the peninsula was stopped, people rushed the airports and the train stations, the sea water was contaminated, food became an issue, living arrangements for tourists in B&B's, private cabins, and pansione-hotels became an issue..... But the Soviet government increased the info and the intensity of the cholera spread, impact and number of cases and death, just to keep people tied down in their dwellings to prevent various forms of panic. We were there, near Yalta, at the time, and had to pay 400 rubles (3-4 months worth of average soviet salary) for a taxi driver to get us out on his car. We initially (first 10-12 days) believed that "the government are handling and the statistic of death and spread are scary and we can't take a step", but then noticed we're being lied to....

When German airplanes bombed Leningrad/St. Petersburg on Sunday June 22, 1941, in the middle of the day when many people were on sunday walks with families, the Soviet government immediately hid information from people that the Main Food Storage and Distribution Centre - Babaevsky Storages, were the first objects to be bombed. The city had not enough food for the number of population, and the deliveries from other regions where not possible (or very risky and difficult) because of constant aerial blitzkriege around the circle of the city. The government wanted to prevent panic buying, yet they new they did not have enough food..... The result, thousands died from hunger, and some resulted to cannibalism (in some cases meat of dead relatives) and a lot more variations of horrific stories.

The death tolls in many events, wars, disasters were reduced or increased, depending on the what needed to be portrayed. WWII, Afgan war, other military activities of attacks - Soviet government always reduced the number of victims, civilian and military. Or increased - to show they are winning... Gularg labor camp deaths - reduced (some relatives don't know what happened to the convict).

Chernobyl - critical info reduced and held back from the population, to prevent panic etc...... 70+ years of Socialist System, under pretense of "happiness for the people" was nothing but a "bunch of lies to people".

Yes... the info about the spread of xxxxxxxx could be controlled in Russia in any direction.. :D

Are those North Americans who were angry at the the Moscow skaters supposedly gaining access to the rinks to practice and calling them "poor sport" for trying to gain advantage while everyone one is secluded, also an NSA?

If Medvedeva is using a show in Japan as an excuse to gain access to ice and practicing, where is the outrage? or do the same people on FSU who in various forms critiqued the russians, have different standards and cheer for "Zhenny" because she may proof that "there is life after Eteri"?

I hope it is her April fools' joke, really... Also because Japan closed its borders to foreign travelers on March 15...... and entering it would require special circumstances..... Practicing for a show is not "special circumstances"... It would be nasty to use it to gain access to a rink...... But after "the broken boot story during Nationals" nothing would surprise me, as well as other "machinations" during the last 2 season... :D
You are such a witch

Honestly, the most talented skaters will just get back on the ice at the end of this and will still win.

Nothing knocks down raw talent. Just think of Hanyu winning OGM after a huge stretch off ice with a busted ankle.

Everyone needs to calm down. No one needs to go lock up a bunch of kids in the woods. If the skaters are talented, they will be fine.

If anything, I reckon a bunch of little niggling injuries will have time to heal now and some skaters will be better off for it.

Looks like the break-up between Tuktamysheva and Lazukin was not so amicable. Fairly respectable new-papers are posting this (from few days back)... "Lazukin removed all photos of Tukhtamysheva from his social media"..

few weeks ago Alexeq Mishin talked to a journalist about Andrey Lazukin injury and the upcoming rather complex surgery. the article google-translates rather well. Lazukin has a torn tendon which was overlooked a year ago, and now it is serious given he was skating that whole time.

Lazukin will have his surgery on his knee in Russia (not in Europe) and by estimates will be able to return to practice only in season 2020/21. Unlike Mishin, Lazukin says the surgery is not that complex, just an arthroscopy.

You were born and raised in the same neck of the woods as i was, same fairy tales and same myths about right and wrong...... use your imagination..
Yes, but in my neck of the woods we never believed in those things. It was just something that’s in fairy tales. So I am curious about what exactly do you mean by protecting someone from ‘real’ witches. Does it mean protecting someone against things that don’t exist? Or protecting someone from things someone believes and believes exist and someone doesn’t?

The fact that children are training away from their families in isolation right now really shows how far some parents and coaches will go to try to give their kids an edge. It’s all a bit icky. The talented skaters will just make up lost ground really quickly anyway, so I don’t see the point.

Who is away from their families?

Looks like Putin is leaning toward "seriousness of the situation" and much higher/increased numbers...... As of April 1 he announces the infected count to be 2,700 and this is not the time to play... (so i am quite sure if the count is 2684 he said 2700, in another situation he could have said "around 2500"... :D )

It’s hardly anti Russian. All of Eteri’s girls and Mishin’s students are being sensible and responsible. Eteri is putting the welfare of her skaters and their families and their nation first. She would know full well that a period away from training on ice won’t stop her students being successful in the long term - as does Mishin.

All skaters can be given a train from home fitness program to maintain good shape. Choreography can be worked on over the internet, flexibility developed etc. This would also be a good opportunity for skaters to think about finishing aspects like holding arm positions and emoting.

Medvedeva is indeed on her way to Japan - as crazy as that is to many of us. At least she will be closer to Russia if she needs to leave for whatever reason.

Lisa Tuktamysheva and choreographer Yuri Smekalov plan to work on her new free program using online technique and want to involve the followers.
They start on Thursday, April 2 at 19.00 (St. Petersburg time)

Could be fun to follow that.

Interesting! Smekalov choreographed the great programs Stolbova/Klimov had in the 2016-17 season, so I’m curious to see what he can do for Liza.

Just because they deleted their photos doesn’t mean their breakup wasn’t “amiable”. I know many young couples that deleted their photos after they broke up but remained friends afterwards. Sometimes you just don’t want a photo of yourself kissing your ex on social media. I wouldn’t read into things.

Pull it together people. Any updates, did EM really fly to Japan?
It would make sense...Japan is in recovery stage while in Canada even with the lockdowns cases are soaring...They could issue a no fly edict at any point and it is possible EM might have to quarantine upon arrival for safety. At least this way she may be out of quarantine and allowed to practice when the time arrives.

Young Ladies showing Home exercise - easy to try - 1 small dog required.

Maya Khromykh (jr)

Adelia Petrosyan (nv)

instead of 1 small dog 1 any-size mother will do..

They aren't really in recovery stage

And there you have it. Canada is talking about restricting province to province movement and everything is closed. Ontario has 2793 cases and quebec 4611, Japan has total 2362 cases. Japan has banned incoming from 73 countries and tomorrow April 3rd they will announce more travel restrictions. So it she is going to Japan to do the show this could be her last chance.
