Royalty Thread #11: Putting the "Fun" in Dysfunctional

The Prince Louis article used an old photo which I found very strange. Nothing to see here.

That is what they do when there isn’t a current photo. It has been done this way for years; it was the same when Kate was spotted with her kids at a swimming pool and when Kate was spotted with George and Charlotte shopping. This is exactly the same format that has been used for years. Reporting an event without photographs.

Kate's latest photography project is both beautiful and meaningful:

I love dark lighting in those photos. Shows the people, the connection, but also the darkness of the horror they have been through. I would love to see the entire exhibit.

British morning show This Morning. I like Camilla T. I have listened to her a number of times and she always seems quite reasonable and able to look at things from different points of view.

Personally, I think Camilla Tominey often has a biased agenda against the Sussexes, especially against Meghan, although Tominey feigns being neutral and objective. Tominey is the same reporter who wrote an inflammatory article claiming that Meghan was supporting terrorism because she visited the mosque where Hubb Community Kitchen was established. Meanwhile, other royals had also visited the same mosque to comfort victims of the Grenfell Tower fire, but they were not attacked by Tominey for promoting terrorism.

Tominey is also the reporter who scooped the news that Harry was dating Meghan Markle, in October 2016. Tominey formerly had more access to Harry. But after she broke that scoop, and after M&H's engagement and marriage, Tominey no longer has the same access to Harry, just as a number of royal reporters don't. Harry was understandably more carefree and open to reporters on tours when he was a bachelor.

ABC is planning a special report on the Sussexes stepping back on Wed, January 29th:

Aftershocks is right about one thing i think -
The press know that connecting H&M to something in a headline will likely increase the click through rate so they make the most tenuous links to catch attention and up their traffic.

Sometimes you just need to wait out the news cycle.

For now, the tragedy surrounding Kobe Bryant means that Meghan and Harry are off the news cycle in North America for some time at least. All of the media have probably packed up and left and gone to cover that.

There is also the latest Andrew developments:

Statement about H&M’a security costs which basically says nothing has been decided.

I think the liberals have received the message loud and clear that Canadians are, generally speaking, not interested in paying.

No matter which party is in power they all know that. I am never a fan of Quebec btw .. they already get so many handouts. It’s hard to say yes your tax dollars are being put towards two rich people. Let them or the Queen pay.

I don't know why it merits discussion. M/H want to be financially independent.. .great. Step One....don't ask other people to pay for stuff.

They are high profile people living a high profile life. If you think you need protection get it. Yourself. Like all the grown ups.

There is also the latest Andrew developments:

So when Andrew stepped down from his Royal duties, is he allowed to keep his royal status? Can he still use HRH?

IIRC it's at the monarch's discretion as to who gets to use HRH. Since Andrew is one of her own children I would be very surprised if he gets his HRH taken away (but if he ends up in jail, who knows).

I don’t think he will end up in jail.

Links now being made between he and Sacoolas. I'm not sure the extent to which the situations are actually comparable (did any of the alleged incidents happen in US - I didn't think so)?

Nevertheless I think it's a useful way of putting pressure on both sides to do the right thing - in terms of public perception if nothing else. I'm surprised it's taken this long for those representing Epstein victims (And Andrew's accuser?) to use the optics of these two cases to press their case.

Kate helps serve breakfast at a preschool:

A little more in the hospital visit mentioned at the end of the above article.

Kate looks great! Love that blue coat. She sure keeps trim!

She pretty much has to. It would not be 'acceptable' to the general public if the wife of a future British king were overweight.

I'm sure Kate has a team of nutritionists and personal trainers helping her to maintain her slim form and remain in shape. She has to be very disciplined in terms of diet.

Even so, I wonder if it comes naturally to her. And it must get tedious going to so many dinners at which the finest of foods are served, and not be able to eat much. Though maybe royals get so sick of those dinners that they don't have much of an appetite.

I also wonder if struggling to keep weight down contribute to eating disorders among royal women (don't know if this was the case for Diana, it's possible) and royal women suffer from a disproportionate number of EDs.

Kate is athletic and enjoys sports. She's also tall and relatively slim, and it appears that this is her natural build.

Those official dinners aren't a daily occurrence, the portions are not huge and you don't get seconds. And that's assuming the food is to your taste, which may not even be the case.

Actually I thought this was an actual royal rule that royalty can never eat in public. There can't be photos of them eating either.

Nah, they’re photographed eating and drinking at events all the time. Charles and Camilla seem to particularly often get the “sample a little of this and a little of that” events.

Well that's undignified. I'm careful never to eat more than yogurt and fruit for breakfast at work. I try not to eat in public at all. This doesn't mean i don;t eat in restaurants. I just try not to have co-workers, etc. see me eating. It's very embarrassing to be seen as chowing down.
