To me Averbukh seems to be a pretty safe and decent choice for the SP. He knows her quite well and his choreo suits her style. Also, she is skating to Muse, so hopefully we won’t get any crazy librettos and pantomime.

But I am relieved to know that he didn’t choreograph her LP :)

Could you possibly listen to the song before announcing that it's Hispanic based on the singer's last name? (There is nothing Hispanic about it.)

It's a beautiful song and performance though not very rhythmic or varied in tempo. Emotionally it will be a bit of a stretch for Starr but I'm looking forward to it.

Thank you @Spun Silver. Christina Aguilera is a popular singer whose father emigrated to the U.S. from Ecuador. Xtina was raised by her mother who is of German, Irish, Welsh, and Dutch ancestry. As far as Xtina's musical influences, she was inspired by pop singer Whitney Houston, and engaged by a variety of other music genres, including jazz, hip-hop, blues, and opera. Xtina's mother was a violinist.

In any case, the original poster's comment is an unnecessary over-focus on Starr Andrews' music genre choices. Starr has always skated to a variety of music genres, as do many skaters! This song selection should provide Starr with an opportunity to work on expanding her expressive abilities. Good luck to her!

I love that because Starr skates to more than one program by a black artist, she’s getting this label.

Exactly. Would the same be said of a skater from a different ethnic background making the same variety of choices Starr has made? :duh:

IIRC, I think they said is as something that had been told to them by a choreographer or skating parent or someone like that. I don't know if that was true, but it never came from something Starr or her camp said publicly, so it was only ever a rumour.

Anyways, I wouldn't care if she did want to do that, and it's clearly not accurate, so it's unimportant now.

The entire TSL biased mockery put-on, crossing-the-line critique was a load of BS. End of story. :blah:

Andrew Torgashev
SP- "Bloodstream" by Tokio Myers

This selection is by the 2017 winner of Britain's Got Talent. Myers mixes Claude Debussy's Clair de Lune with Ed Sheeran's Bloodstream. Brilliant! Talk about variety... :p

I look forward to seeing Andrew's on-ice interpretation. At first, I thought this might be the same as Rippon's initial 2016 - 2017 fp choice, Bloodstream -- but that was by Stateless. It didn't serve Adam well, and he early on switched to his iconic O (Fly On) by Coldplay and Arrival of the Birds, by the Cinematic Orchestra. I'm glad that Andrew chose the unique, and unexpected selection by Tokio Myers.

Carreira and Ponomarenko used Bloodstream as part of their FD last season, but I don't think they used the fast part.

Zagitova's show number music "Bad Guy" - encouraging reverse violence/men abuse.
Bell's programme music "Work Bitch" - encouraging seeking luxury life by prostitution.
Kolyada's "scorpions" song - as per band's video itself, has political undertones.

As a point of reference, Ilia Klimkin skated to Petrushka, back in 2001.

I would love for Torgashev to get both costume and choreography inspiration from this program. :D

Such a fun program. I just loved Klimkin. There has been no one like since him, although Misha Ge had an equal penchant for entertainment. I wish more skaters would find inspiration in the both of them.
