Gabriella deserves kudos. Once upon a time she was visibly weaker but her skating was lovely in both programs, especially in that one foot sequence. Her interpretation was excellent too- I absolutely bought her in the Tango without feeling attacked by it. A tad concerned about Guillaume’s back because he’s unnecessarily wrenching his torso forward quite a lot these days which can’t be great for it.

I’d love to see them push themselves with a program that’s a true departure stylistically, but this is beautiful to watch and I can appreciate that they have a vision. That’s rare in a team so young.

I would not categorize the FDs from Stepanova & Bukin, Popova & Mozgov, Manta & Johnson, Shpilevaya & Smirnov, Kaliszek & Spodyriev, Muller & Dieck, Zagorski & Guerreiro, Lauriault & Le Gac, Soucisse & Firus, Wang & Liu, Nazarova & Nikitin, Skoptcova & Aleshin, Urban & Steffan, Yanovskaya & Lukacs, Lanaghan & Razgulajevs, Morozov & Bagin, Fournier-Beaudry & Sorensen, or the second portions of the FDs from Guignard & Fabbri, Sinitsina & Katsalapov, and Evdokimova & Bazin as lyrical.

And remind you this is a late start for G/G. Watch out world. I am really curious to see Chock and Bates will bring now.

Didn't P&C skated to Pink Floyd, some years ago? If my memory serves me right, I thought that was modern and a bit edgy.

This is where I am too. I love the first part and I don't care that it might feel the same thing. It is beautiful. The second part I might have to watch it several times, cause I wasn't very much into it on 1st time.

When you've got the storyline to help you, and the audience already knows who you're supposed to be, there's less convincing to be done. Creating a mood and an engaging 4minute dance when there's no clear theme is much, much harder and praise-worthy.

I think these two posts summarize perfectly what P/C want to achieve on the ice: Skating and dancing on music that inspire them. It's not about playing a role and getting locked into a character. It is precisely the opposite! Above all, it's about being free, being yourself, being sincere so that everyone can draw from it their own feelings, their own emotions, their own story. That's the whole point of working with Catherine Pinard.

My wife and me reefer to them as Gay-lord and Gal Pal.

We agree with what you wrote accept that even, with out the pornographic clothing I may not enjoy their skate's. Great music through.

Some use the skaters full first names when talking about them, some their full last names, others their first name initials and others their last name initials. That's not new and those happen to be their first name initials. Nothing anyone can do about it. (Not to mention that even if using first name initials were unusual and done on purpose, I don't think that there's anything pretentious about it. They are certainly playing in the same league).
 
Green & Green and Grushina & Goncharov can't help their initials;).

In all seriousness, within a general dance thread, it helps to stick to the same system for all the teams and go with last initials if one is not going to write out the names of a team, unless there is a compelling reason not to do so. (S&K being easy to confuse with Stolbova & Klimov, for example, so Sinkats is very practical). There are 120 dance teams currently on the SB list. Trying to sort through 120 sets of initials is enough without trying to sort through 240. And there are always new teams coming up that may match a current team's initials so if a favorite has last initials that don't match someone else's, it's a blessing.

Just my personal two cents. It really is not easy mentally switching systems just because a team is at the top. (My mother and I spent a good 15 minutes last season going through all the Olympic teams we could think of trying to figure out who T&S were on a thread on GS this past March. Of course, I started at the bottom because I didn't recognize the abbreviation;)).

They were the kings and queens of ice. I mean making ice. With their blades. Never used any edges of some sorts. And still, they were seen as skating "bigger" and better. Oh bad bad memories.

I generally like to abbreviate and nobody has been confused. I much prefer Pap/Ciz to G & g (which will always be Gordeiva and Grinkov to me). Sin/Kats sounds cool. I had the same problem with T & S a few times!
The worst one for me was D/S years ago! Before you drive yourselves nuts,

Domnina/Shabalin
Delobel/Schoenfelder
In my book, Den/Stav, Dom/Shabs, Del/Scho, Much easier and more fun to create. And there are always exceptions: Voir, Shibs, Mtm2 sooooooo,,,,,,,,,,,
 
Sinskats are right there with Stepanova/Bukin fighting for Russia's #1. The GPF will be interesting. I think it may come down to the RD in determining which team will place higher. Sinskats RD will is stronger than S/B but S/B's FD is stronger.

I am really rooting for the Sinskats to make a comeback based on Victoria S' character(I don't have an issue with Nikita anymore, he's a talented ice dancer and I think he has matured). She has improved so much since 2015. She's matured with better skating skills and she looks to have come into her own. I love it when you see a skater who could have given up after the crazy two years she's endured. But she keeps preserving and you can see her confidence on the ice.

That he has matured remain to be seen on a two year period. That is if he doesn't screw up again before.

Victoria is becoming a very good ice dancer. That she has a knee problem, considering where Tiff suffered her injury, bothers me. I hope someone outside that rink is doing something about that. Two girls out of two gaining a knee injury in the same circumstances is bothering.

Oh well I must say I agree. SinKats RD is superior (IMO it's the second best of the season, P&C being in first). But S&B FD is vastly superior in about everything, despite Alexandra's posture.
 
Papadakis and cizeron very similar fd to the last 4 years, the music is very dull I guess they didn't get the memo from Didier, the rotational lift looks very similar to lajoie and lagha I guess they train with them they must have liked it, my money is on stepanova and bukin for Olympic champs in 2022, oh I see the Russian judge did not give them a single 10 in the fd did Didier throw his tantum or not yet, disappointed for gilles and Poirier they deserve to be in the gpf final maybe they need a better tech coach they can keep carol as a choreographer.

It's a bit early to make bet for 2022 and my money is on you getting flamed pretty quickly for keeping on trolling this thread. If P/C's rotationnal lift looks similar to Lajoie/Lagha's, it may be a safe idea to go and see an opthalmologist. As for P/C copying anything from anyone : lol. Everybody and his sister have tried to copy them for 4 years, to absolutely no avail. Teapot, kettle, black and all that :D

Unsure they actually "deserved" to go but I'm disappointed too because I prefer both their RD and FD to Hawayek/Bakers'. But this is entirely subjective.

Just catching up on this thread from the last couple of days.

First, I saw the comment that skating a mood is harder than playing a character, and I disagree very much. They require different skills, but doing either well is equally hard imo. One or the other may come more naturally to a particular skater, of course. And neither one is "better" than the other, or more artistically valid.

Second, my thoughts on P/C's programs are generally positive. I love the RD. I didn't expect it to be bad or anything, but it was better than I was expecting (again not because I thought it would be bad or they couldn't do it). I was very impressed and my first impression was that it's one of the best RDs of the season. They had a really lovely maturity and gorgeous movement. When the FD started, I thought it was beautiful, but I was disappointed because it felt like very much the same thing they've been doing. But the second half of the program when the music changed made me happier. I would have loved to see them try something that was a greater departure, especially because they have the freedom to do it and still be on top. But I do see how this program is different from their other FDs, and I'll take it. There's growth here, and I can see that they have a vision for how they want to move forward. Plus, the tango is fabulous and shows a different side. I haven't had a chance to watch it again yet, but I like what they're doing in the FD.

And watching them, it's clear why they're on top. The quality of their skating is by far the best with V/M gone.
